Don't forget the sacrifices our soldiers and our allies made this day. Don't forget the sacrifices all Americans made to the war effort then. Then ask yourself if today's leaders have the any inclination to resist the infectious spread of National Socialism or the threat of Islamic Jihad.
They say that if it weren't for Americans and Brits like those who stormed the beaches of Normandy, we'd all be eating sauerkraut with chopsticks today. In the future, will we all be slaves of the state?

I am currently reading a book by Antony Beevor(no, he is not a Canadian beaver) "D-Day" published 2009. Covers D-Day, the battlefor Normany and ends at the liberation of Paris. It's a good read, up until this book, it's been a long while since the topic has been competently covered.
ReplyDelete<p><span><span>Just to follow up on my previous comment, one of the humourous<span> </span>vignettes was about a British military man who took part in the Normandy landings, a <span> </span>Lieutenant-Colonel Richard Geoffrey Pine-Coffin. Now there was a name to inspire nervousness in his troops if one had a superstitious mind. A bad omen for sure. heh</span></span></p>

ReplyDeleteA few years ago my wife and I took our young sons to the Normandy beaches and D-Day museums. I'll never forget it, particularly the cemeteries, and scars in the land from the battles still remaining at La Pointe du Hoc.
