Happy New Year from the Feedlot!

New Year
The first real snow of the winter fell on the feedlot New Year's Eve. Like most first snows, the two or three inches we received were preceded by an unpleasant freezing rain. And the snow didn't actually fall, it was applied by a strong wind.

I rang in the New Year iced in, listening to other cats' travel woes on my police scanner. The long, steep lane here was still impassable this morning, but as you can see from the picture of my front yard, the sun is shining again. The new year looks good.

Best wishes to you and yours, dear readers, for a happy, healthy and prosperous 2007.

Out with the old...
On New Year's, many Italians throw their old TV sets and other appliances out the window, literally. The theme of the holiday is "out with the old, in with the new", and it can be lots of fun if you don't get hurt. Why should this be limited to things folks have gotten tired of over the year? Tiresome dictators and despots of every stripe should get the same.
