If your only view of the Tea Party movement has been through the prism of CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and national newspapers, you may think of the protesters as a mob of angry people with pitchforks and torches, looking to tar and feather everyone who disagrees with them. If you get all your news from Nancy Pelosi, you may think the protesters are violent, neo-Nazis. To hear the Leftists tell it, dissent against "Chimpy McBushitler" was the Highest Form of Patriotism, but dissent against the unprecedented expansion of federal government currently underway must, obviously, be due to racism.
In fact nothing could be further from the reality of the Tea Party movement. The vast majority of participants are simply regular people, patriotic citizens trying to restore respect for the Constitutional principles of limited government. We know there's no such thing as a free lunch. All these "free" things the government gives us will have to be paid for, one way or another, in higher taxes now or on our children.We know that a government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have.

ReplyDeleteOur much vaunted(not in all quarters, it must be said) Canuck Medicare system is under pressure due to us aging baby boomers. Even our Liberal Party, who introduced the system federally in the 60's and who are currently in opposition, has floated a trial balloon saying it is not sustainable and I have to agree with that. The Liberals are saying that it may be necessary that all folks start paying premiums, not just a few provinces where they have health premiums as the high taxes we already pay is not enough. So it looks like the free lunch is going to be over and just when I am going to be using it more as I get more wonky. It's all about demographics catching up on us, shortage of young workers to support the system for us numerous elders.
ObamaCare is going to be especially tough on Canadians, once it's in full force. Where are you guys going to go when you can't wait for months to see that specialist? :)
ReplyDeleteI think this gets even worse for Canada. Our pharmaceutical companies sell production overrun pills to Canada on cheap contract prices. Not sure how the new law shakes out, but if it forces new costs on the drug companies, it sure seems likely to me they would cut Canada off. I know I would if I were them.

Oh well, maybe they can apply to become a state.
Right you are, Roger. The only reason Canadian drugs have been cheaper than the American versions is monopsony. The pricing free-ride is coming to an end soon.
