Rewilding Nebraska: Mountain Lions

Seen along the Papio Creek in Omaha

The numerous mountain lion sightings around West Omaha has folks a bit nervous. I heard an 'expert' on the radio today saying the usual 'they won't bother you if you don't bother them' and 'they are just as frightened of you as you are of them'. What baloney. These big animals need to eat. They eat meat, and they like to kill their prey. One cat says he saw one chasing a deer in town. All of us, our dogs and our kids are made out of meat. Don't bother them, indeed.

I'm thinking this is the work of the re-wilders. Consider this: if they can run us off or at least thin us out by surreptitiously introducing man-eating species, then their ungodly cause will be advanced. There is corroborating evidence like the 7' boa constrictor found in an Omaha drain. It seems City Hall is no help, further proof Mike Fahey hates West Omaha folks. He probably favors re-wilding.

Update: Humane Society's Mark Langan sez "Lions can be mistaken for other city wildlife".
Update: When you see Pumas, can cougars be far behind?

Maybe the earlier Chupacabras reports from Sarpy County were wrong, and mountain lions are the local goat-suckers.
