Joe McCarthy's awful legacy: President Obama

Senator Joeseph McCarthy
Senator Joe McCarthy was a genuine anti-communist. I remember watching the Army-McCarthy hearings on TV in 1954 at my grandparents' house. Sadly his crusade against the spread of communism was derailed by the incompetency of his staffers and his leftist enemies in Congress and the media. McCarthyism came to mean "demagogic, reckless, and unsubstantiated accusations, as well as public attacks on the character or patriotism of political opponents." (wiki)

Joe has his defenders, among them the spitfire Ann Coulter, who wrote a fine book about how revisionist historians have distorted McCarthy's real work. Still, old Joe remains about as popular as the proverbial plop in a punchbowl. It wouldn't be so bad if it were only a case of slander, but the revisionists have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. The institutionalized idiomatization of McCarthyism will possibly be responsible for bringing a communist to power in America.

The fear of being labeled as another Joe McCarthy is exactly why John McCain will not say the word "communist" or even "socialist" in his campaign against Barack Obama. There is no doubt that Obama is a Marxist: his associates, confederates, mentors , friends and neighbors are almost all communists, commie sympathizers or fellow travelers.

John McCain will not call a spade a spade speak the truth not only for fear of being labeled a racist, but he doesn't want to be accused of McCarthyism. McCain grew up being told incessantly that McCarthyism was the same thing as calling out communists. It isn't. Still, McCain can't speak the words, though they be the truth.

Just as criticizing Barack Obama has become equated with an act of racism, so calling out the man's communist background and current policies is an act of McCarthyism.

Joe McCarthy was made to appear to have failed to produce the facts in support of his claim that communism was creeping into the American scene. He was painted as reckless and irresponsible. I think McCarthy would have seen a better outcome than the censure and ignominy that was his fate if there had been an internet in the 1950's. Today, the facts are available.

When Americans first realized it might be possible that Barack Obama could become the Democrat candidate for president the first thing I heard was, "Who is this man?" Well, we don't have to wonder any longer. Barack isn't just another Chicago Democrat. He is a Marxist.

If Obama gets elected president, we will have only a Congress three-fourths full of communist idiots, stooges, sympathizers, dupes and socialist fellow travelers to stand between us and a communist tomorrow.
