If it looks like chrome, its plastic. In fact, the entire body is blow-molded plastic recycled from pop bottles. Its so light, you won't need a jack to change tires. It runs on apple juice and only fresh air is emitted from the tiny exhaust pipe. You have a choice between carrying a bag of groceries or a passenger. In early road tests, the new Government Motors Caddy was a bit hard to handle in crosswinds. Crash test results aren't in yet.

I'm glad the Hummer will avoid Obamafication.

Update: It looks like Red China is taking over the Hummer brand. I wonder if the ChiComs are going to produce the Humvee for the US military now.

Are you ready for that inventory?
Nancy Pelosi, speaking to the ChiComs, who are already sold on totalitarianism, said that "Every aspect of our lives must be subject to inventory" to fight global warming. Every aspect? Inventory? Ed Morrissey notes on the Hot Air Blog:
---
As ptg says, "Why don't they just pass a Regulation of Everyday Life Bill and be done with it?"
Make no mistake about it. The climate-change activists want state control of energy production and use, which will allow the government control over every aspect of our lives. It’s the lifelong dream of utopian elitists.Ed also has a video to help answer your questions about just who might conduct such an inventory.

Aspiring Light Bulb King Dethroned
The old feeder is probably the worst businessman ever. Anyone would be better off taking investment advice or entrepreneurial guidance from a Magic Eight Ball than from me. Heck, I ought to start using one myself instead of trying to use my head.
I have successfully stored away enough cheap incandescent 40 Watt light bulbs to last me until I croak or the electrical grid collapses, whichever comes first. I'm not going to be a victim of the eco-totalitarian oppressors, or so I figured. When the law makes it illegal to sell incandescent light bulbs in 2012, I will not be forced into using cold, poisonous compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs).
I find that the best sources are big home improvement stores. Every time I visit one, I get a cart full of good, old-fashioned room warming incandescent light bulbs. Some places have already quit selling them, like Sam's Club, but Lowe's, Menard's and Home Depot stores around here still stock them. I get the cheapest ones available, one brand seems to last as long as another for me. I have acquired a scandalous number of them, raising only a few eyebrows from cashiers.
Sounds pretty smart, no? Maybe not.
Here's what is is going to happen. Congress is going to hear from more and more folks that don't like the idea of paying several dollars to replace a 25 cent light bulb. Some of these folks will find out just how nasty the light from these buzzing, grotesquely twisted fluorescent bulbs make their surrounding appear. Some will even find out that the mercury in them can actually get out and into your kids. These folks will pester their representatives in Washington to kill this nasty, anti freedom of choice, totalitarian law before its provisions even go into effect. There is already a bill in the House: H.R. 5616, the Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act.
Its a good thing I wasn't buying up bulbs with an eye toward cornering a future black market for outlaw light bulbs. I know at least one Nebraskan has set out to become the Outlaw Light Bulb King of Grand Island. One out in the third, whose comments you may have seen on many other blogs, said as much here in a comment. Nobody wants to end up like the cat that had warehouse full of hula-hoops when the fad died.
I can only hope that my room full of lightbulbs will serve as a hedge against inflation. With my luck in the realm of the coin, someone will find a way to make incandescent bulbs out of straw for less than a nickel apiece. Its what I deserve for betting against a good outcome.
---
Perhaps I may be able to take solace in the fact that if any would-be Light Bulb Kings get dethroned it will be the CFL profiteers, whose only interest in green is the dollar. Also, I'd like to see Al Gore pay the taxes and utility bills on his mansion with carbon credits in a world gone sane. Maybe if I wish real hard.
---
I found out about this legislation from World Net Daily: Lawmakers take up battle against light bulb ban. WND is off kilter on many things, but they got this right.
---
If the government can take away your choice on such matters as what kind of light bulbs you can use and you don't care, I have a suggestion for you. Call your representatives in Washington and ask them to draft and pass the Regulation of Everyday Life Bill as soon as possible. As Machiavelli advised the prince: bad news from the state is best delivered all at once, only good news should be drawn out. Gary Gilmore was more succinct: "Let's do it."

Ethanol: the fuel of suckers
The corporate agriculture ethanol hucksters and their mentally challenged suckers supporters are gathered in Omaha this week to further their self-enriching schemes. Read how Nebraska corn liquor is necessary for National Security at Love Global Warming, the old feeder's clean, green ecology blog.
---
Addendum: Reason TV has an excellent little video addressing the problems associated with the huge government (read: taxpayer) subsidies the ethanol industry requires. It is titled Silly Senator, Corn is for Food, but is really a serious analysis. The Reason.tv blurb about the video:
---
Update: This ought to make Republicans gag. The GOP will invite anyone into their new, all-inclusive Big Tent.

Ethanol advocates claim that the biofuel is a cheap, renewable energy source that reduces pollution and our dependence on foreign oil. It sounds too good to be true—and it is.I got the link from a brand new blog: The Founding Bloggers. Hat tip: Gateway Pundit.
Ethanol, especially the corn-based variety, is bad for taxpayers, bad for consumers, bad for the environment, and horrible for the world's poor. In fact, even environmentalists are critical of ethanol subsidies these days. The ethanol craze has distorted markets and increased the price of food worldwide. The only people who still support ethanol subsidies are the ethanol producers—and politicians from both sides of the aisle. Together, they make sure the subsidies keep coming.
In a recent interview about the current food crisis, Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) said, "If part of our problem is that the Chinese are going to eat meat and you've got to have corn and soybeans to feed the Chinese their meat, then why isn't it just as legitimate for the Chinese to go back and eat rice as it is for us to change our policy on corn to ethanol?"
Let them eat rice? So that American taxpayers can continue to pay people to turn corn into fuel?
Silly senator, corn is for food.

Bush's Iraq "War for Oil" fails: US forced to drill at home
Even George Bush now thinks the US policy of forbearance from drilling for oil in our own back yards should end. Seems that increasing the supply might just help ease the upward pressures on the price of oil. I saw only the Democrat reaction to the jawboning he gave the Congress today. Something about 'destroying America's most pristine land'. Read more about these developments at Gateway Pundit.
I can see why the Gulf Coast cats are nervous. I'm selfish about some things, especially when close to home, but I see no such NIMBY problem with drilling the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve.
How many Americans will ever even see this wretched piece of pristine nastiness. Its far away, hardly in anyone's back yard. To see it, you need to make a giant, expensive carbon footprint just getting there and back. Americans that can barely afford to drive to work stand no chance of visiting the ANWR even once in a lifetime. You would have to pay me to go there.
Only obsessed scientists working on grants hang out there now. Its deadly cold in winter, and mosquito-infested in summer. The sorry caribou there lose blood by the pint to the voracious insects, whose attacks drive them to distraction. In winter, the miserable beasts must eat lichens off the frozen rocks. Any change in their horrible existence would be an improvement.
Where's the harm? I'm for drilling the ANWR and anywhere else in the US where the inhabitants aren't selfish wussies or communist dupes bent on destroying America.
---
Sad thing is, Bush could have forced this issue long ago by ordering the drilling bans lifted by executive order. Instead, he puts the cart before the horse. I guess nobody is perfect.
---
Barack Obama, still on the Marxist plantation, feeds us the Big Lie: it isn't a long-term solution. What a slave the man is to leftist doctrine.

The Incandescent Underground
On a trip to the city to buy supplies this week, I stopped at the Sam's Club in Omaha, Nebraska. Its one place where I can buy big sacks of rice, flour and other bulk staples for really reasonable prices. One of the items on my list was 40 Watt light bulbs. To my surprise, Sam's Club had only the new over-priced compact fluorescent devices for sale. No incandescent bulbs at all. Why? Because global warming fascists have managed to sneak through a law effectively banning incandescent light bulbs starting in 2012. This makes me sick.
To begin with, I don't like fluorescent lighting. The color temperature is insipid. The electronics emit a buzz you can hear. As a tightwad, however, I can sacrifice comfort or pleasure if to do so will offset these negatives with significant overall savings. Compact fluorescent bulbs don't fill the bill. I can buy incandescent 40 W bulbs for less than a quarter apiece; the fluorescents are invariably many times more expensive.
Now it is being reported that the initial high price of the fluorescent bulb isn't the only cost involved in switching from incandescents. The damned things are made with mercury. Enough mercury that you need to take special precautions not to poison your household if you break one. Costly precautions. Its enough to make me decide to put up a supply of incandescent bulbs in a clandestine cache. I'll get blackout curtains for my windows to foil the light bulb police and such neighbors as might rat me out to them. My mother wouldn't have dreamed that light bulbs would lead me to a life of crime. Sorry, Mom.
---
In keeping with my status as the greenest man in America, I have always used light bulbs of the lowest wattage I can stand. I got the idea from one of my more intelligent uncles, a dentist in Washington, DC, nick-named 10 Watt Robbins. He is gone now, but his tightwad lighting policies live on in me.
Most bulbs in my home are 40 Watt incandescents. The kitchen and bathroom each rate a 60 W light, so I don't poison myself cooking or taking medicine. Area lights, such as I have, are all 25 W. I have big fluorescent fixtures in my shop, but I never use them unless I lose something on the floor. I turn all my lights off when not in use. I save money and, quite incidentally, pollute the earth very little. Leave me alone.
I shall not yield to eco-fascism. Long live the incandescent underground!
