Charlton Heston - El Cid passes away

Heston as El Cid Campeador
Charlton Heston died last weekend. He was a fine actor, a good human being and an American who put his career on the line to defend our constitutional rights. I remember him best in his role as Judah Ben-Hur, but he starred in so many monumental films that its as easy to think of him as the hapless astronaut in Planet of the Apes as it is to picture him parting the Red Sea as Moses. Michelle Malkin links to a fine homage printed in the Washington Post, the last place I would have looked for one.

Today, I want to remind Plains Feeder readers of Charlton Heston's role as Rodrigo Diaz, the champion of the first Reconquista. The one where the Spaniards drove out the Moslem occupiers of Andalucia, not the historically corrupt Mexican version of the reconquista that is in the news today. The misguided and grossly confused proponents of Aztlan would like to see huge tracts of the US Southwest 'reconquered' by Mexico.

Granted, no one is much worried about Mexico invading the US, but a growing fifth column of anti-American illegal immigrants are buying into this bastardized view of historical inevitability. The latest flap involves the advertising industry pandering to the reconquistadores. Absolut Vodka is getting blogged over the head for an advert featuring a map of Aztlan.

The Real Reconquista
Astute bloggers know that the Mohammedan jihad brought the scourge of fundamentalist Islam to the Gates of Vienna. The Mohammedans are still almost at those gates. Anyone familiar with history also knows that the original Jihad saw the Moors (another name for Mohammedans) conquer much of what is now Spain. The jihadists ruled over their Spanish conquests (Al-Andalus) for ages: 711 to 1492, hundreds of years. The term Reconquista was given to the Spaniards' successful efforts to drive the Mohammedan fanatics out of Spain and back to North Africa, from whence they came.

The champion of the Spanish Reconquista was El Cid Campeador, a cat named Rodrigo who inspired and led the Spaniards to victory over the Moors. Charlton Heston played El Cid in the 1961 movie of that name. The film isn't exactly historically accurate. The movie Cid gets killed but leads the final assault as a corpse strapped to his famous horse, Babieca. Actually, the real El Cid died of old age, just like Charlton Heston, at his home in reconquered Valencia. Its a great story, and still timely in light of today's resurgence of worldwide Jihad.

Someone should put the Aztlanists wise. They claim solidarity with the Mohammedan Jihad, while simultaneously holding up El Cid as an exemplar of their lame 'reconquista' movement. Of course, inconsistent reasoning never bothered these cats and their supporters before.

What do you say? I think its time to prevent the need for another reconquista here at home. Stop the Dhimmitude, appeasement and accommodation of these dangerous Mohammedan fanatics.

Charlton Heston - College Days
Read an interesting article about how Heston never forgot his pre-Hollywood days. Adios, Campeador. We will never forget your "cold, dead hands" speech to the NRA.

Amnesty Now!

San Ysidro Border Crossing
How many disaffected Mexicans are packing their suitcases right now? If the Senate can't stop it, another amnesty is in the works. Mexamerica can't be far behind.

I'd be willing to give Mexico Southern California, Arizona and New Mexico for them to set up their nasty Aztlan nation. On the condition that all Mexican and other south-of-the-border illegal aliens in the rest of America move there immediately.

I'd even be so kind as to offer a small window of opportunity for the American citizens now living in the ceded states to repatriate to the US. After the window closes, though, they become Mexicans or Aztlanians or whatever.

We should deport these bums

Take Names
This disrespect for our laws and our flag is outrageous. These Mexicans and their hopes for a better life in America have been hijacked by cats with plans that bode ill for both the Mexicans and the United States. You can see pictures of some of them posted here by the feeders favorite: Michelle Malkin. Some of these miscreants, like the Che-mmunists, want to ruin the very aspects of America that made it attractive to the Mexicans in the first place. Others, such as the Aztlanists, insidiously distort the traditional American concept of diversity as symbolized by the 'melting pot'; they would convert America into another Mexico. You can see these and more, (including even some sorry-assed "Black Panthers") in the pictures Michelle has posted.

These interlopers only sour any sympathy I might have had for decent, hard-working Mexicans who were lulled into the crime of illegal immigration by years of US neglect of it's own border. For decades, there has been a de-facto legalization of their crime. We are supposed to call them 'undocumented' instead of 'illegal', as if they were only guilty of having left their immigration papers in their other pants. We are supposed to let the kids out of school to watch hate-mongers disrespect the flag as they trash our nation's laws , curse it's institutions and threaten our leaders. These big demonstrations don't scare me or move me. I take that back, they do move me. I am moved to suggest that we deport them as fast as we can catch 'em, and spend what it takes to prevent their return.

Update: MM says the Mohammedans are muscling in on the Mexicans' cause. Everyone who hates America is jumping on the immigration bandwagon. The Mexicans are certainly big suckers for letting this happen to their demo. We might as well tar them all with the same brush, its too late to try to sort them out. For analysis, check out this post at All Things Beautiful.

Why would Mexicans in the US insult the flag?

How is this supposed to help Mexicans in the USA?
Why would Mexicans living here in the United States do things like this? Acts like this seem especially counterproductive now, while the US is engaged in a heated debate about our national attitude towards these same Mexicans. I don't know much about the "Mexican movement" or whatever it is called, but I smell agents provocateur. Bad folks who want trouble for reasons not necessarily related to these immigrants' cause.

The only other explanation is that the Mexicans do things like this just to piss the rest of us off. Instead, they should be trying to ingratiate themselves with the America they want to make their home. Thanks to Michelle Malkin for pointing out the outrageous. If all they wanted was California, well...

Yellow Drudgery

Upon seeing this banner on the Drudge Report yesterday, the old feeder thought that either the Mexican Federales had finally invaded the US, or maybe Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano was really cracking down on wetback traffic on her border with Mexico. I have secret hopes that the Aztlan folks will annex all of America's southwest states into their new nutso nation. Maybe this was the beginning.

But no. The Big Banner was a fake. The second paragraph of Drudge's linked news story has the let-down:
National Guard troops have worked at the border since 1988, but Napolitano signed an order authorizing commanders to station an unspecified number of additional soldiers there to help federal agents.
Sensationalism in headline writing has been the vogue since news was scratched onto clay tablets. Using the headline to insert editorial opinion is a more recent art. The folks who bring us the news, most all of 'em, are either destroying their already shredded reputation for honesty, or else trying to stupefy their audience into buying their editorial slant. Result: a nation half populated by slavering moonbats who eat this "news" raw, and half by wizened cynics who don't believe or trust anyone.
