Lisbon Treaty and the Irish vote

God bless the Irish. The Times of Malta notes that:

[O]f the 27 countries in the European Union only one has to abide by a provision in its Constitution of holding a referendum on matters which may affect its citizens' way of life. This is why the people of Ireland voted recently in a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty - and rejected it.

The other 26 countries, including Malta, opted for ratification by their parliament and basically ignored their people's views on the Lisbon Treaty.

Parliaments and Congresses that think they know what is best for the poor, benighted common folks should be given the boot. Read it and weep, one-worlders. The comments are interesting as well.

You might think Americans would catch on to the fact that the entire United Nations experiment in globalization has been a dangerous bust. The ever corrupt UN now causes more world problems than it solves, provides a big platform for our enemies and impedes the cause of peace world-wide. If that wasn't enough, the UN also threatens to eat away at our hard won freedoms and erode our national sovereignty.

I'm ashamed that our poor benighted globalist President Bush is urging the Senate to ratify the ill conceived and very risky Law of the Sea Treaty. This treaty isn't new, and there are good reasons we haven't ratified it yet. Study it and you will see why it is a very bad idea. The Heritage Foundation warns of Dangerous Seas Ahead if we sign on. Senator David Vitter, Republican from the seaport state of Louisiana, is leading the opposition to the LOST treaty in the Senate.

This dangerous treaty is on the fast track for Senate approval right now. Get on the ball and call your Senators today: Just Say No! Don't buy the lie.

Addendum: Glenn Beck gets it. Mexamericanada isn't just a phantom. You can call it Mexica or The North American Union but its still a bad idea from the US point of view. Canada is largely unproductive and dangerously Marxist. Huge segments of the Canadian populace are net tax consumers. The same can be said for Mexico in Spades. Large portions of the Mexican countryside are beyond the control of the national government. Communist movements thrive among the oppressed Indians. Mexican political graft beggars the word corruption. What could "partners" like these possibly offer? Nada, eh?
