I had a down-side post based on Chris Satullo's A not-so-glorious Fourth and similar Independence Day liberal hand-wringing in mind for today. Instead, Scott Voorhees is doing a great job of it on KFAB right now. He's got the listeners going with this one. No sniveling!

We are in serious danger of winning the war in Iraq

So lets cut and run!

Silver haired RINO Senator John Warner of Virginia has called for President Bush to bring our soldiers back from Iraq by Christmas. It seems there has been an ugly rumor going around to the effect that the military actions in Iraq might just succeed. This would be intolerable to the Bush haters and their friends, the perennial peaceniks. So lets cut and run now, while we can still say it was a fiasco.

Bring the boys home for Christmas. Has a nice ring to it, no? But I question Warner's insensitive choice of a Christian holiday to associate with their anti-war message. Why not "Home for Ramadan" or "Home for Earth Day"? I thought peaceniks all hated Christianity as much as they hate cheeseburgers and capitalism. Maybe it is a trick.

Nebraska bloggers need to kick our Senator Chuck Hagel some more. He is still making noises. We should also let Chuck and Ben know we don't appreciate having our entire Senate delegation voting for for what amounts to defeatist treachery. At least Ben Nelson can cover his ass with his Democrat Party card, but Hagel has no excuse. Maybe we should recall him.

Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel miffed the media by hyping a non-announcement announcement regarding his presidential ambitions, and then further angered his constituents by voting with the defeatists on the war in Viet-Nam Iraq. He has even spoken the I word, as in Impeach Bush. Since then, I have noticed that many of the web sites set up to promote his bid for the 2008 Republican nomination are losing steam.

The only place he gets gets kissed on the lips by the media now is Al-Jazeera, which Dr. Shackleford at the Jawa Report reads so I don't have to. Even a job at a goofy liberal college out East, like our former Nebraska Senator gone bad, Bob Kerrey, has taken, won't be far enough away to suit. Did I mention that Bob Kerrey is so roundly despised that even leftists hate him? Chuck should look into the new condos going up in Dubai.

Lorie Byrd has some thoughts at Wizbang blog worth reading on the new Congressional plan for US defeat in Iraq. She has stirred up some interesting comments there as well.

The old feeder has already declared defeat in Iraq. But I see it as just one battle in a very big war. The US has never won every battle in any major war. When all is said and done, the war against the Mohammedan Jihad will be a major war, in which Iraq and Afghanistan are only the West's response to the enemy's opening attacks.

The war in Iraq may be all over but the shouting, but the war on Jihad will continue for a very long time. Weak leadership will give way to stronger as the Mohammedan threat becomes less easily denied. I hope.

Damn the Defeatists - Americans want Victory in Iraq

I've used some old WWII posters to illustrate what many of our legislators cum defense experts ought to be talking about, instead of "Lets cut and run because it's Viet-Nam". Victory in Iraq. So, come on Senators and Congressfolks, raise your snouts up out of the slop bucket and get a clue:

If we lose this war, the terrorists will kill us for infidels. Unless, of course, we throw a pinch of incense on the altar of Mohammed's evil Allah. And even then, our Mohammedan conquerors will make us burn down Las Vegas, put all our women into bags and start eating mutton. We want Victory, and we will have it. The defeatists heard today in the Senate will be remembered as fools at best. They deserve to be openly reviled for their defeatism.

Meanwhile, I'd like to see the word Victory returned to common public parlance. The Marxists running our public schools have done their best these last 40 years to discourage the very notion of competition. I guess competition reminds these leftist educators of dread capitalism. I don't care. This is a war, there will necessarily be winners and losers. I think most Americans grasp this reality, and will proudly choose Victory. I don't know about some of those creeps in Washington, D.C., maybe they really want us to get whipped by these demonic Mohammedans. I'll take Victory.

Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel - illegal day legislator

The U.S. Senate has voted to kill the 'Ensign amendment' which would have made the years illegal immigrants worked illegally not count toward qualifying for Social Security benefits. I wasn't even aware that it did. The old feeder is past retirement age and still hasn't accumulated enough years of gainful employment to qualify for Social Security retirement benefits. Piss me off! Why, I worked legally (more or less) for 40 years (off and on). No SS for me. Nation of Laws, my ass.

The worst part of it, for us Nebraskans, is that Hot Air reports that our Republican Senator Carlos al-Hagel, was one of 11 Republican Senators voting to defeat this sensible measure. The same "It's Viet-Nam! It's Viet Nam!" Chuck Hagel that has been courting the left of center vote in a bid for the Presidency in '08. It will never happen, Chuck.

Hagel Update: Today Senator Chuck Hagel voted to kill yet another amendment that would have helped discourage illegal immigration: the Kyl amendment to the immigration bill . It would have prevented temporary guest worker visas from becoming permanent. I guess temporary doesn't really mean temporary. Anyhow, Senator Hagel voted with the rest of the amnesty and 'open borders' crowd. Thanks be to AllahPundit 's post at Hot Air.

DadGum e-mailed this cartoon to me. He found it at the Grouchy Old Cripple. Senator Chuck Hagel still thinks he can win the 2008 Republican nomination for president with his sorry, outmoded Viet-Nam defeatism. As long as he won't speak of victory in the War on Terror, there will be folks wondering if he is Presidential Material, like Phil Harris at Red State, where the topic is under discussion.

In what the AP called a "stinging defeat for President George W. Bush", pantywaist US senators proved once again that we don't have a victory oriented wartime Congress by stalling the new Patriot Act. This brings to mind how the US leadership stalled and delayed, much for the same reasons, the implementation of a complete black-out of the US eastern seaboard after we entered World War II. A mistake that cost America numerous lives and a great deal of money. Some say this delay hurt our chances for an early victory on the European front.

Most folks are unaware that dozens of US ships were sunk by German U-Boats off our east coast during the first months of 1942. Sometimes in sight of shore. While Americans nattered and quibbled about their 'civil liberties', the city lights on our coasts continued to silhouette our tankers and freighters. The German U-Boat commanders, trained to attack at night, called it the American Turkey Shoot. Our sailors, charged with defending vital wartime shipping, called it 'Torpedo Junction'.

Who wants some government goon telling you when it is 'lights out' in your own house? What business wants to be told they have to shutter their display windows and turn off their signs? Important civil liberties were at stake. But when folks in 1942 were made aware of the costly carnage that was the result of their indulgence in debating fine points of law, they came to their senses. Our national leadership stepped up to provide America with real wartime leadership. A national blackout was ordered, and the German submariners second happy time came to an end.

The old feeder wonders if this Congress has got what it takes. I never hear anyone in Congress say the word Victory. This worries me.

Chuck Hagel's Viet-Nam fixation revisited

Nebraska's own Doug Patton, in an article titled "What Chuck Hagel Has Become" (RealityCheck), observes that:

"While serving in Vietnam, Hagel and his comrades in arms were continually undermined by thoughtless, narcissistic politicians who spoke without considering the propaganda value their words would give to the enemies of America. Now Hagel has become one of those politicians."

We have noted this sad irony before at the Feeder, and remain perplexed by Senator Hagel's continuing self destructive public diplay of his pathological fixation that all wars are Viet-Nams. It might seem that Senator Hagel is trying to set himself apart from President Bush like the rest of the hopefuls in the 2008 Republican bull pen. For example, see this Knight-Ridder story in the Columbia Trib:

Republican hopefuls - as many as a dozen men who already are jockeying for advantage - don’t want to be perceived as insiders and heirs to the Bush political establishment. On the contrary, most of them are trying to advertise their independence, to distance themselves from Bush on key issues, to appear as rebels fed up with the wicked ways of Washington.

But, unlike the other male Republican wannabees, Chuck can't seem to find any issue except the war in Iraq to differentiate himself from Bush. I think it is sad. Reminds me of another Nebraskan who wound up a self-caricature.

Update: If Senator Hagel really wants to set himself apart from the Republican pack, he might consider supporting President Bush's current policies, instead of making such unhelpful utterances as the President is "disconnected from reality." He could promise to improve upon the current administration's policies in the areas of immigration, border security and spending cuts.

Hagel would be wise to bet that, come November 2008, Americans will want more of the same resolve to defeat and unwillingness to appease our enemies as they have with Bush . The terrorists of the New Caliphate will not go away; the threat will only increase. The candidate that voters perceive to be strongest in the fight against Jihad will win.

Senator Chuck Hagel's sad Viet-Nam fixation

Too bad Chuck Hagel had to get mixed up in the Viet-Nam war. His personal witness of the events we lump together as "Viet-Nam" has left him with an inability to view those 'bad old days' rationally. His twisted historical perspective necessarily colors his judgment vis-à-vis current events. Viet-Nam, Viet-Nam, Viet-Nam; some vets just can't make that refrain stop playing in their heads. John Kerry couldn't do it.; look what it did to his political aspirations. Nebraska's own Senator Bob 'One Foot Bridge' Kerry is so permeated with the taint of Viet-Nam, he quit politics and now seeks to assuage his guilt by working for the anti-war crowd that calls him a war criminal.

I have to conclude that Viet-Nam, one way or another, tends to stick to a politician like stink to a goat. Viet-Nam, Viet-Nam, Viet-Nam; it won't stop, Senator Hagel. It is going to play in your head for the rest of your life. If only you could stop letting it spill out of your mouth! This old feeder is sick of how it makes you criticise President Bush for being brave enough to take on the truly big problems facing America. Just because 'Nam left you crippled and timid, don't think everyone shares your delusion. To consider turning and running when the going gets tough is to repeat our Viet-Nam mistake. That is your legacy, Senator, leave it in the past. As it is now, every time you cry about Viet-Nam, you insult our President and dishonor your comrades whose names are on that black wall. If you can't fix your thinking and heal your 'Nam wounds, at least shut your festering gob!
