Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, always ready to shame and embarrass the home folks that sent him to Washington, isn't going to attend the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis. He will be in good company. I got the picture above from the LA Times, and here is their caption:

Withholds endorsement of Obama, but...

Nebraska's cross-party-dressing Republican Senator still hasn't announced his official support for Barack Obama's presidential campaign. Still, Chuck Hagel has done everything but, including acting as bodyguard for Barry on his obligatory trip to Iraq last month. I'm sure that Hagel was up all night waiting for that phone call that would have put him in Joe Biden's place, even though all of Obama's true believers were nixing Chuck.

When Obama passed him over for Biden, Hagel stifled his disappointment and drooled all over himself to heap praise on the Robinette from Delaware. What a trooper! Chuck still thinks this is the Most Important Election Ever, and that only a Democrat can pull America out of the Great Depression and the quagmire of Viet-Nam Iraq.

I think this is going to be one of the most important elections this country has ever had," Hagel said. "We are living in a time of great transformation in the world. We have immense challenges. I think the next president will inherit an inventory of problems as big, deep and wide as any president since Franklin Roosevelt's first term in 1933.

I don't know why Chuck Hagel hasn't just come out and given his full endorsement to Barack Obama. Nebraska's other Senator, Ben Nelson (a Democrat that often dresses like a Republican), has managed to spit out the magic words "Hope and Change". I'm guessing that Nebraska's biggest RINO is still hoping for a call from the Obamachine asking him to be Barry's Secretary of Defense, or Agriculture, or Veteran's Affairs, or Secretary of Something.

Regarding his own future, Hagel said he plans to be a private citizen come January. He said that's when he'll decide what he's going to do away from capitol hill.

He does say if the next president asked him to be a member of the next administration's cabinet, he would consider it.

Maybe he would settle for an appointment as Ambassador to Someplace Nice.

I heard Steve Brown on KFAB today mention the rumor that Nebraska's RINO Republican Senator Chuck Hagel might be on the short list for US presidential candidate Barack Obama's vice-president. I looked it up and here is what I found: Hagel not ruling out match up with Obama.

Can you believe the gall of this man? I hope he never comes back to Nebraska after his fraudulently obtained term as Senator expires. Perhaps then the stink will stop rubbing off on the Nebraskans he tricked into voting for him. The stench from former Nebraska Senator Bob Kerrey is only now beginning to fade from our overalls, and he was at least honest about being a Democrat.

Here is a recent spew from Chuck Hagel that illustrates just how out of touch with reality the big turkey has become:

The long-term positive geopolitical consequences of our bold action are impossible to overestimate. The human and financial costs of this bold and timely intervention on the side of goodness and reason have been held to a minimum.

Our troops are statistically almost as safe in Iraq as they would be on the streets at home, but their losses are meaningful, willing sacrifices. Getting nailed by a stray bullet in one of our cities is tragic, but these deaths, like highway fatalities, serve no end, good or evil. Our enemies, the nation-less but pervasive fanatical Mohammedan Jihadists, aren't faring well at all. Iraq is not Viet-Nam or Korea. We are winning this important war, and the world will be a better place for it.

Our disgraced and discredited Senator Chuck Hagel has been forced to get out of politics, but refuses to behave like the lame duck that he is. From Barbara Anderson at WEBCommentary:

S.2205 was introduced last week by Senators Chuck Hagel (R-NE), Richard Lugar (R-IN), and Dick Durbin. This senate bill grants amnesty to illegal aliens who arrived in the U.S. before the age of sixteen. Although publicized as a help to young students, the bill has no age limits on applicants and no caps as to the numbers. The final goodie is the provision that illegal aliens who are granted amnesty under the bill are eligible for federal financial aid.

There are now reports that Democrat Senate Leader Harry Reid plans to use a maneuver to bring it back as a stand-alone bill as early as this week by invoking Rule 14. This would allow him to fast-track the bill, with no debate and no markups, which is usually the procedure.

The DREAM Act has been around for several years and was included in the ill-fated “comprehensive” amnesty legislation defeated in the Senate this year. It has been changed from time to time, so some provisions have been altered or even omitted from different resurrections of the act.

Nebraskans are disgusted with Senator Hagel for many reasons: being a RINO, a defeatist, A Bush Derangement Syndrome sufferer, and a favorite of the loony left. He agrees with President Bush on open borders. We cornhuskers have made it abundantly clear that his 'leadership' hasn't lived up to our expectations. We don't want any more of it.

Norman Hsu stinks up Bob Kerrey's Senate plans

Norman Hsu's ugly shadow falls on Bob Kerrey

Former Nebraska Governor, Senator, Presidential wannabe, lesbian joke teller, New York City society gadfly, capitalist oppressor, secret warrior, current President of New York's wack-o New School and Medal of Honor recipient Bob Kerrey's relationship with Norman Hsu is in the news again. Kerry is considering a run for the Senate seat that proved too confining for retiring incumbent 'Maverick' (read: RINO) Chuck Hagel. I saw it at The Politico.

Most of the Democrats that took money from Mr. Hsu proved to be fair weather friends. Feigning surprise, they scrambled to make it look like they were giving the money all back. But Kerrey's connections to Hsu run deeper than mere illegal campaign money. It will be harder for Bob to scrape the Hsu off his shoes. From Josh Kraushaar at The Politico:

“Bob Kerrey was not only a receiver of contributions [to the New School], he actively recruited [Hsu] to the New School,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee spokeswoman Rebecca Fisher. “Nebraskans need to be aware of that.”

Kerrey’s recruitment of Hsu came several years ago when Hsu was known as a prominent Democratic donor in New York fundraising circles.

In addition to serving on the school’s Board of Trustees, he donated money intended for a school scholarship.

Since Hsu’s arrest, Democratic politicians have distanced themselves from Hsu, and most have returned donations received from him. Clinton’s presidential campaign returned $850,000 in Hsu-connected campaign donations.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee returned $43,700 in donations directly from Hsu.

But Kerrey’s ties to Hsu could prove to be a unique distraction. Unlike other Democrats who simply accepted Hsu’s money, Kerrey had a personal relationship with him.

Kerrey also was one of the last public figures to openly praise Hsu before his recent downfall.

Kerrey's response so far: “I don’t know what is going on in his mind,” Mr. Kerrey said. “I thought that I knew him, but obviously I didn’t.” Tip of the straw hat to Leavenworth Street.

The official announcement is to come on Monday, but the Omaha World Herald, which has never, ever been wrong about anything, is reporting Chuck's retirement. Along with a heavily watermarked picture of the old warrior looking sad and lonely. No tears here.

I got the story from Red State first. Perhaps the Leavenworth Street Sweeper will be closing his odds books and settling some bets before the actual announcement. You might consider betting on one of SS's longer shots: Chuck's scheduled announcements have a way of surprising pundits.

But his decision is the latest political setback for the Republican Party in its effort to prevent Democrats from extending their majority in Congress next year.

Retirement sounds so much better than finished or washed-up. Now the liberals can transfer their Hagel-love over to Bob the Baby Killer without admitting that it was Chuck's dalliance with the left that ruined his chances of ever getting elected to anything in this state. Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel said this weekend on "Face the Nation" that he is considering an '08 White House ticket with New York City Mayor Bloomberg. What an absolutely horrid prospect.

Does Hagel really think that having a third-party spoiler candidate drawn from among his new RINO friends will do anything but propel a Democrat into the White House? I think such a move would only serve to ensure, à la Ross Perot, a Democrat victory in '08.

The long-term risk of any Democrat President now is that the Federal bench and the US Supreme Court will be packed with liberal activist justices for the foreseeable future. I worry that this would damage our Constitution beyond repair.

Many think Perot's antics gave America eight years of Bill Clinton. Now Hagel and Bloomberg evidently think that another Clinton is what we need in 2008. Perhaps Chuck want to punish Republicans for giving short shrift to his Iraq/Viet-Nam fixation.

I am so disgusted with Senator Hagel. Did you know there isn't any way for Nebraskans to recall a properly elected US Senator?

From the McCook area's Southwest Nebraska News: the Nebraska Taxpayers for Freedom have started a campaign to rid Nebraska politics of Senator Chuck Hagel. They (read: Doug Kagan, et al.) are calling it Show Hagel the Gate in '08 . According to the McCook paper, the reason for the campaign is Senator Hagel's collaboration with Ted Kennedy to give amnesty to illegal aliens. I can think of more reasons to dump Chuck, but hey, one is enough.

He has even spoken the I word, as in Impeach Bush. Since then, I have noticed that many of the web sites set up to promote his bid for the 2008 Republican nomination are losing steam.

The only place he gets gets kissed on the lips by the media now is Al-Jazeera, which Dr. Shackleford at the Jawa Report reads so I don't have to. Even a job at a goofy liberal college out East, like our former Nebraska Senator gone bad, Bob Kerrey, has taken, won't be far enough away to suit. Did I mention that Bob Kerrey is so roundly despised that even leftists hate him? Chuck should look into the new condos going up in Dubai.

I have always been against Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel's efforts to gain the 2008 Republican nomination for President. Today, the Street Sweeper at Leavenworth Street blog has made the old feeder's day by officially declaring that "Chuck Hagel’s GOP Presidential ambitions are D-U-N."

I agree with the Sweeper 100% that the major factor that ruins Hagel as a viable candidate is the indelible mark of the Viet-Nam war he bears. I also believe that Senator Hagel is sincere, that his heart is in the right place. But, as the Sweeper puts it:

Hagel is deeply, deeply scared by Vietnam, both literally and figuratively. Those scars have shaped his view on Iraq.Those scars have shaped his view on Iraq. Couple that with his Christmas-time receipt of letters from his father to his uncle in WWII where his dad told his uncle, “if I thought I would ever have a son who would have to go through this, I would never get married.” You can bet that closed the door on Hagel ever being open to the continuation of soldiers dying in Iraq, even if it were for a good cause.

I can't remember how many good friends were marked for life by that war. What was wrong with Viet-Nam is a whole 'nother topic, but the harm of it is yet to be fully realized. You can't be angry forever, but you can be sad for a long time.

I wish he would hurry up and announce whatever it is he keeps threatening to announce. Perhaps he is going to switch parties on us and shoot for a spot on the 08 ticket. Real Republicans wouldn't touch him with a ten-foot pole if what the Buzz has reported gets legs. The Omaha World Herald has it as "an option" here, while the New York Sun is reporting Chuck's off balance rant as a "warning" to Bush from Chuck.

I say we need to recall Chuck to Nebraska for consultations.
