Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson Appears on Toast

Senator Ben Nelson is toast in Nebraska
Mrs. Harry Prochaska of McCook, Nebraska was certainly surprised last Saturday morning when a piece of toast popped up bearing a striking image of Nebraska's Democrat Senator Ben Nelson. She had Harry take the photograph reproduced above, then reduced the now controversial slice to crumbs for the snow-bound birds in her yard. Explaining why she has no evidence but the picture to support her claim that Senator Nelson is now officially toast, Mrs. Prochaska said, "It was too cold to butter and eat after Harry finished fiddling with his camera."

Nelson staffers were quick to point out that the Nebraska couple "probably cooked up this obvious fake" to humiliate the affable, go-along to get-along politician in the wake of the recent controversy surrounding the Senator's role in the shameful Cornhusker Kickback. Senator Nelson was unavailable for comment, being fully occupied with changing his story on his support for the unpopular "Obama Care" socialized medicine scheme.

The Prochaskas deny they did anything wrong, saying, "We threw the danged thing out, for crying out loud." Several Nelson is Toast offerings have appeared on eBay since the story was published in the McCook Gazette.

Congress passes huge $3.4 Trillion Budget

Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson - DINO?
The one party system strikes again. More grotesque, reckless spending to come.

Gag me with an indenture! At least Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson voted against it. I suspect he did so knowing that the irresponsible bill would pass in spite of his "Nay", just to mollify his 'Republican' supporters, without whom he could never have been elected in the first place.

Send Senator Ben an email. Click here to tell him that he should quit the disgraceful Democrat party and sign on with the GOP. The dirt is bound to rub off and 2012 is coming soon.

Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson jabs Iran

Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson, reporting from beleaguered Sderot, Israel, accuses Iran of causing trouble in the region. Not a stretch, since Iran has been supplying the terror rockets the Palestinians have been shooting at Israel. Our man managed to touch an Iranian nerve.

Ben has been at loose ends lately, unable to work up any genuine enthusiasm for Barack Obama's stretch-to-fit platform. Seems Senator Nelson has gone back to what he does best, being a maverick Democrat.

Now if he can just quit flogging ethanol. The damage is already done. Ethanol hasn't helped our energy costs and has wrought havoc on food prices.

Senator Ben Nelson becomes Obamanized

Ben Nelson - running on hope
Senator Ben Nelson, a prisoner of his Democratness, has made an effort to join the chorus of Obama believers. Somehow, Barack's airy phrases seem to fall pretty flat coming from Nebraska's most Republican-like Senator. Here are the highlights condensed from his speech at Midland Lutheran College this past weekend:
Change is the word of the day and the word of the future. Change is what all of us are looking for in Washington. Our party is changing. We want progress. We want good government. Everyone is upset about gasoline prices.
He tried to warm the audience with a couple of jokes. Like this one: "Washington is being impacted by global warming. Just the other day, a chunk of ice fell off Vice President Dick Cheney." LOL! Those Democrats just slay me!
---
Seriously, Senator Nelson is charging ahead with his own plans for America's future. The Street Sweeper at Leavenworth Street blog reveals Ben's plans for a National Energy Commission and "proposing a day, possibly in July, to commemorate America's independence from the hated British."

Score one for the people

The World Turned Upside Down
Senate Blocks Immigration Bill. 46-53 against cloture. Haven't seen the votes yet, but I have to think our Democrat Senator Ben Nelson helped America dodge a mortal bullet by voting to finish off this ill-conceived, dishonest piece of legislation. From CQ:
Perhaps the most telling vote will come from Nebraska Democrat Ben Nelson, who has made a practice of supporting cloture motions whether he intends to vote for the legislation or not. Nelson said Wednesday he would likely break that tradition and vote against ending debate on the immigration bill.
Ben is the best Senator Nebraska has. Nobody but Chuck Hagel can deny it. Rush Limbaugh will never stop saying that he and his talk-radio pals are running America.

Update: Ben Nelson didn't let us down. Here are the numbers, via Michelle Malkin.
---
Thanks to Sean Hannity, George Voinovich was one of the "switch" votes. Or, perhaps he just couldn't get it straight. Lets see, was it “a vote against cloture is a vote to kill the bill” or "a vote for cloture is a vote for..."? I forget.

The Fred File: Fred Thompson blogs today's vote: "This has been a good day for America." Fred thanks bloggers for helping to make it so.

Shame on Nebraska Senators Hagel and Nelson

The old feeder couldn't think of a better way to say it than Austin Bay: "Shame on Nebraska’s Senators Hagel and Nelson. I expected better from both of them." Get out your veto pen, George!

Ben Nelson or Chuck Hagel: Which is the Republican?

SeƱator Chuck 'Amnesty Now' Hagel
In a frenzy of feel-good legislating last spring, the US Senate voted to build a measly 370 miles of new fence along the US - Mexico border. Now the Senate amnesty crowd have voted not to fund the fence, in the hope, I suppose, that the voters who were howling about the need for improved border controls would forget. Maybe they thought they could fly this chicanery behind the smokescreen of international squabbling over the Israelis pounding the be-mohammed out of their nasty neighbors. Not surprising from the wimps in the Senate.

Another not surprising aspect of this duplicitous vote was that Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel again took sides with the Democrats and the rest of the wetback amnesty wussies. Again, no surprise, our Senator Ben Nelson was one of only two Democrat Senators voting to give the American people what they so desperately want: secure borders. Check out how the Senate voted here.

Who is the real Republican in Nebraska's Senatorial duo? It ain't Chuck Hagel. Too bad there are otherwise politically astute cats who think we should dump Ben Nelson for a "real" Republican, Pete Ricketts. I say we shouldn't take a chance on getting stuck with another RINO like Hagel. Partisan numbers don't count in Congress, votes do. Ben Nelson has my support

Mas: A Senate vote in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Update: From Futurama at Blog-Sothoth,
Funny to hear Chuck Hagel on Larry King last night suggesting Jim Baker go to the Middle East to broker peace: does Hagel (whom occasionally I find agreeable) remember Baker saying "Fuck the Jews, they don't vote for us anyway?"
What a statesman! If that's how Chuck would handle delicate diplomatic maneuvering if he were President, I'll take vanilla. Or Jeb Bush.

Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson Supports Line Item Veto

Yesterday President Bush renewed the call for the line item veto, asking the Senate to join the House, which voted to give grant President Bush a modified version of the power. Congress previously gave the Presidency a line item veto in 1996, but the Supreme Court saw fit to take it away.

Today I found this article in the Southwest Nebraska News: Line Item Veto One Step to Responsible Spending by our Democrat Senator Ben Nelson. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, this cat makes a better Republican than our real Republican Senator Chuck Hagel.

Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson's Spaghetti Sauce

Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson
Tom Curry, a left-leaning political commentator at MSNBC, tries to make sense out of Nebraska Republicans' stubborn failure to 'vote the party ticket' and instead make up their own minds when voting. The MSM is still reeling (as if anything that happens in Nebraska makes folks in the MSM actually 'reel') over Nebraska Republicans' rejection of Coach Osborne.

The man who will try to unseat Senator Nelson, Pete Ricketts, has money and Republican credentials. But why take a chance that Ricketts will turn out to be another RINO like Chuck Hagel? Senator Hagel makes a better Democrat than a Republican. Ben Nelson's ability to distance himself from the moonbat fringe that seems to dominate the Democrat Party these days, and his steadfast adherence to basic Nebraska values is what keeps him in Washington. Tom Curry writes:
“I’ve made sure the other side doesn’t define me; I define myself,” Nelson said. “I don’t want to ban the Bible; I don’t want to burn the flag; I don’t want to take away the guns; I’m not promoting same-sex marriage; I don’t want to re-write the Pledge of Allegiance; I am not supportive of abortion.”

And these aren’t mere words. Nelson has voted:

  • For Bush’s Supreme Court nominees Samuel Alito and John Roberts;
  • Against every Democratic filibuster of Bush judicial nominees in 2002-2003, except one;
  • For Bush-supported tax cuts in 2001 and 2003;
  • Against a resolution declaring that the Roe v. Wade abortion legalization ruling “secures an important constitutional right” and “should not be overturned;”
  • Against Democrats’ efforts to prevent a Senate floor vote on a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.

Two weeks ago, Nelson was one of only three Democrats in the Senate to vote for continuing lower tax rates on capital gains and dividends.

Meanwhile, Chuck Hagel seems to make the news every day with yet another effort to make himself appealing to liberals. I don't trust Nebraska Republicans because of Chuck Hagel. Nebraskans worry that Mr. Ricketts will turn progress-o-lib on us. Then both our Senators would be liberal wussies.

I like Ben Nelson. I think Nebraskans should ignore Ricketts and his money just as they ignored Coach Osborne's slick Washington campaign. If Ricketts thinks the election will be a gimme, just because he is a Republican, he might wind up as surprised as the Coach .

Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson bows to constituent wishes

Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska has again shown that he isn't fit to be a Democrat. He has repeatedly ignored his Democrat party's leadership, preferring instead to acquiesce in his constituents' wishes. On Tuesday, Nelson said that having already "supported more than 215 of President Bush's nominations to the federal bench, including Chief Justice John Roberts", he will now cast his vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito. Senator Ben Nelson, my kind of Democrat. The kind the party wishes they could kick out.

What? No Alito filibuster?

Nebraskans feel certain that our wannabe maverick Senator Hagel will support judge Alito's confirmation. Ben Nelson, the Democrat that Nebraskans love as only a mother can love an ugly baby, will vote reasonably. Ben is nothing if he isn't reasonable. Liberals hate him like poison for this. Echidne of the Snakes has this bit of liberal Ben-bashing: No Filibuster for Scalito?
Ben Nelson thinks Alito is just a dandy guy. Nelson is one of those so-called moderate Democrats (wingnuts-on-a-diet). He is part of the 'Gang of Fourteen', the people in the middle who decide if a filibuster would work or not. Of course, Nelson will never need to worry about whether he will need an abortion or whether he will be regarded as property of his wife.
Echidne goes on to confide that she does, "think that the Democratic base has been ignored for far too long, and if we don't get some attention soon we might just not turn up to vote in 2006." We can only hope.

Even though Senator Hagel will vote for Alito's ascension to the Supreme Court, he is still bashing the President and trashing our troops' successes in the war; assuming increasingly moderate positions. (He wants to be President, heh heh.)

I just heard Hagel quoted on the radio news a few minutes ago. He was comparing Bush's MSM propaganda poll numbers to those of Richard Nixon during Watergate. Of course, repeats his assertion that we are losing the Viet-Nam Iraq war. KFAB also played a clip of him telling the President, in so many blunt words, to fire Karl Rove. How incredibly bizarre!

I am getting very weary of Hagel's kicking the President every time he thinks he sees an opening. No sense getting all hot under the collar about it. We've known too long that Senator Hagel was a fly in our "Majority in the Senate" ointment.

Late Update: having taken the day off yesterday and loafed shamelessly today, I discover that fireball political Plains Blogger Ryne McClaren has the skinny on our Nebraska Senators' ever moderate positions on Alito, filibusters, defections and the Gang of 14.
