21st century American hurricane fighters

Is it possible that Americans took the sting out of Rita with a collective force of will power? A few years ago Art Bell wanted to help out an area in Florida that was suffering from a severe drought and asked his listeners to contribute their thoughts and prayers at a specific time. They did and it rained much more than they even wanted it to. Art Bell is probably one of the few who could consciously pull something like this off. I'll bet there's greater potential in the leaderless unconscious.

What about Katrina's horrible destruction? I don't think the general population, like myself, had any notion of how bad that hurricane could be when we watched it on TV. Our collective will power, at best, consisted of sympathy for the victims as was evidenced by the money we sent in to charity. But we're not always at our best and I have to wonder if a lot of people, at least a lot of people like myself who were high and dry, watched this very natural disaster unfold with a considerable amount of wild primal interest in seeing how bad it could get. In effect Katrina was invited in to entertain us with her wet and windy dance.

Rita was different because now we've all been educated in the ways of seemingly uncontrollable hurricanes. It's not only bad for the people who have lost their homes and have been displaced, not to mention those who lost people they loved. It's also bad for those of us not in hurricane country who are going to watch a bundle of our money take a one way trip down south. And we don't like to see offshore drilling platforms shut down and refineries closed, leading to higher gas prices. All these things and more were being added to our collective unconscious as Category 5 Hurricane Rita did a wild and deadly dance out in the Gulf Of Mexico.

This time we were believers and we were scared. Is it possible that we arrogant, pompous, petty and bickering humans were able to unconsciously and spontaneously mobilize ourselves in a defensive manner to resist - if not rob - Rita of her power?

Babalu Blog: Thank you, Mr. Clinton. You prick

How screwed up is our border control? Babalu Blog has the low down on how well Clinton's wet foot, dry foot legacy is holding up. The pictures are awful. The unseen reality of repatriation to castroland is worse.

I feel sorry for the Coast Guard troops that have to enforce this crappy dictum. Perhaps they should give them extra schnapps rations, as Germany did for the SS troops who had to machine gun Jews all day at places like Babi Yar.

Omaha Highlights - Its all about the kids

The clash of the titans of the OPS (Omaha Public School) district's move to seize the Sudetenland force its more successful neighbors into its failing grasp happened today. OPS Superintendant John Mackiel pushed his Bolshevik "One City, One School District" Gosplan, while Millard Superintendent Keith Lutz represented the Kulaks voice of property values reason. Nothing happened; read about it here: TheOmahaChannel.com.

Meanwhile Omaha sex offenders were the talk of the town. Whatever we are doing about child molesters and other criminal sex perverts, it sure isn't working. Read today's news on WOWt's web: Pantywaist punishments, half-way houses, and wimpy bureaucratic "crackdowns" don't help. But they provide top quality job security to a large number of government employees at every level, nook and cranny. It looks a bit like a racket to me.

If the teachers aren't politicking the kids out of a decent education, and if perverts aren't grabbing them while they are in school, then the little ones are getting sick from nasty germs. About 80 kids at Elkhorn's Fire Ridge Elementary School got ill. Maybe one of the underpaid teachers brought the Norwalk type virus back from his or her last cruise.

Its all about the kids.

Mayor Nagin has the school busses out for hurricane Rita

Levee Breached - Nagin's Bus Ready
Click pic for better view

Caught short once, Mayor Nagin of New Orleans was Ray-on-the-spot when the levee burst today and the poor folks' houses were once again flooded by Bush's or Allah's horrific hurricane storm machine.

bin Laden's weather machine

Stephen Cimbala, a political scientist at Pennsylvania State University, says "It's like Osama bin Laden's running the weather", as part of an article noting a correlation between the hurricanes, Katrina and Rita, and President Bush's slipping poll numbers. Like maybe Osama was planning to seek the Democrat nomination in 2008.

This comment has been picked up by Islamo Fascists at the Islamic Community Net hosted by Yahoo. With the slight theological adjustment that it is really Allah who runs the weather. To wit:
Allah (S.W.T.) has protected Usama bin Laden all these years from the most intense McCarthyite mudslinging and ensuing military mobilization ever in the history of the all mankind while simultaneously plaguing the US with horrendous drought, huge flocks of locusts, floods and hurricanes - just to name a few of the huge problems faced by the US during the Bush regime. Just last year, "Homeland Security" was in all a tizzy because they were worried that bwoo-ha-ha terrorists would sneak soybean "rust" (a plant parasite) from deep within South America to the US.
This news was quickly picked up and run with by the Chiapas Indy (commie) site, which will print anything as long as it can be twisted into anti-Americanism. Now it has made its way to this commie blog P, which hides its Marxist bent under the skirts of Populism and Progressivism.

I'm pretty sure that Osama's wicked terrorist weather machine's control center is located in Venezuela, with some of the hurricane directing equipment operating out of Aruba and Cuba. It only makes sense. Rumsfeld's old weather machine, abandoned by the US in Viet-Nam, has been perfected by the ChiComs and sold off to Osama's Al Qaeda. It is just too obvious. Even the Fishing Girls are on the Hurricane Storm Surge weapon.

Cop a Laugh

Festive Key West
Don't Let Me Stop You from copping a laugh in the face of yet another hurricane. Will the feds help keep Key West 'festive' after hurricane Rita?

Roberts gets a vote

Judge Karlton (in tan jacket)
President Bush has an opportunity to put the United states back on the Constitutional track by appointing two new Justices. How important this is to the Union is not to be underestimated. Judge Roberts, now standing for Senate consent will become Chief Justice, barring the unforeseen. The next appointment will be even more momentous, and must not be used for a bargaining chip to appease the radical socialist left (RSL) in Congress.

The RSL would have us believe that, in spite of losing the elections that handed President Bush this opportunity, they must be accorded some sort of loser's rights. Remember the Two Americas? There are Two Americas now: the electoral majority , traditionally called 'the winners'; and the electoral minority, now known as 'the sore losers'. These losers cannot accept their loss and move on, (pun intended).

The sore losers must have gone to those schools that allowed only non-competitive, feel-good sports. Where all the grades were A's. They must have been raised on unconditional approval and told that they were special every day. Because they can't seem to get it: they lost the relevant elections and don't get to say who sits on the Court. The rest of America has rejected the RSL and they can't take it.

America's Constitutional system of representative democracy has taken some serious hits from the RSL. The burdensome and continuing legacies of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton have been nowhere more onerous than in their appointments to the Federal Judiciary. We shall have to wait for these RSL judges to die before we are free of their social meddling and anti-American shenanigans.

For an example, the Feeder offers this from Ankle Biting Pundits: Judge Lawrence K. Karlton, a Jimmy Carter appointee and winner of ABP's Smails Buffoon Award. ABP lays out for you a smorgasbord of socialist stupidity and anti-American tom-foolery by this Federal judge. Karlton is the one that recently ruled that the Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional. He is a fool at best, a socialist dupe at better, and an enemy of the people at worst.

Word has it that Judge Roberts will receive the Consent of the Senate. He will become the next Chief Justice. But the RSL aren't going to take it gracefully. The sore losers are plotting to use their seeming acquiescence as a way to leverage their 'loser's rights' so that they might have a disproportionate voice in Bush's next SCOTUS appointment. Anything else just wouldn't be fair.

Don't let them pull this off. Write to your Senators. Keep after them. For all their talk about stolen Presidential elections, the RSL is still trying to steal the last one. We won. They lost. What remains of our Constitution will be preserved from socialist rot. If we don't bargain away our hard-won second chip.

Dan Rather and those damned water-conserving toilets

Dan Rather is still swirling in the bowl: Michelle Malkin has him "Back in the Saddle", which is being kinder to the old cry-baby than he deserves. Any attempt to mix the toilet and saddle metaphors would be bad mental health, so I choose to blame the EPA's water conserving toilet rules for the old floater's persistence.

Fall Equinox is tomorrow

Day/Night as of today - Click for larger image

The Autumnal or Fall Equinox is tomorrow around supper time. I use GeoClock software, and it shows how the days and nights are the same length at the Equinox. Some say you can balance an egg on it's end on this day. I suspect there isn't anything to the egg business, but the Equinox , together with the Solstice, has a hoary tradition. Since humans became humans, and maybe before, these readily observable solar phenomena have been deemed important or auspicious.

Today, Wiccans and practitioners of other supposedly ancient belief systems, are about the only folks besides weather geeks who get a rise out of the Equinox. (Read what Wiccan blogger Andy has to say about it at Better Way.) We don't link to devil worshipers' blogs here at Plains Feeder, but I'm sure they are similarly excited .

The old feeder can't help but think that the incident of goat suckery near Omaha and noted yesterday in the post about El Chupacabras is connected to the Equinox. I don't know, but I wouldn't imagine that El Chupacabras of legend reads the calendar. That leaves human weirdos and space aliens to explain the caprine exsanguinations in Sarpy County. The Omaha metro has more weirdos than space aliens. I hope.

Chupacabras hits Omaha

TheOmahaChannel has this wonderful hometown story: Cult May Have Killed Goats. It seems the "goats were found Friday with all the blood drained from the animals near 71st Street and Cornhusker Road inside their regular pen. The goats were strangled and hog-tied."

The Nebraska Humane Society is investigating. If whoever did this is caught, they will get no mercy. The old feeder thinks maybe the perpetrators won't be caught. If they are, they might be only minions of still sicker benefactors.

There are practicing satanists and believers in santeria here in Nebraska. Some of the former are well placed in Omaha society. (For a hint, see The Johnny Gosch Blog.) The feeder would only be guessing in the case of santeria, but I believe either group could have done this.

Who knows, Maybe we have vampires? Nah. Too goth. It has to be the Chupacabras.
---
Addendum:
WOWT has this: Tina Updegrove of the Nebraska Humane Society says,"On further inspection is when they found the holes in their jugular."

Maybe it is connected to the Equinox?

Mississippi mud

Mayor Nagin's New Tune
The Feeder notes that the most popular search engine keywords pointing browsers this way are now "katrina joke". This is a big improvement over "barnyard sex", but all the same, a poor reflection on the Plains Feeder. None of the Katrina jokes I have heard so far are very funny, but if you really want a laugh, imagine New Orleans Mayor Nagin singing the old Dean Martin tune, Mississippi Mud:
When the sun goes down the tide goes out
The people gather round and they all begin to shout
Hey hey Uncle Dud it's a treat to beat your feet on the Mississippi mud
It's a treat to beat your feet on the Mississippi mud

What a dance do they do
Lordy how I'm telling you
They don't need no band
They keep time by clapping their hands
Just as happy as a cow chewing on a cud
When the people beat their feet on the Mississippi mud

Lordy how they play it
Goodness how they sway it
Uncle Joe, Uncle Jim
How they pound the mire with vigor and vim
Joy the music thrills me
Boy it nearly kills me
What a show when they go
Say they beat up either fast or slow

When the sun goes down the tide goes out
The people gather round and they all begin to shout
Say hey Uncle Dud it's a treat to beat your feet on the Mississippi mud
It's a treat to beat your feet on the Mississippi mud

What a dance do they do
Lordy how I'm telling you
They don't need no band
They keep time by clapping their hands
Just as happy as a cow chewing on a cud
When the people beat their feet on the Mississippi mud

When the sun goes down the tide goes out
The people gather round and they all begin to shout
Hey hey Uncle Dud it's a treat to beat your feet on the Mississippi mud
It's a treat to beat your feet on the Mississippi mud

What a dance do they do
Lordy how I'm telling you
They don't need no band
They keep time by clapping their hands
Just as happy as a cow chewing on a cud
When the people beat their feet
When the people beat their feet
When the people beat their feet
On the Mississippi mud
I picture Nagin tapping his toes and clapping, with Gov. Blanco singing backup. Pres. Bush can play Uncle Dud. I wish I had a more suggestive foto.

Important Metaphor Devalued

Look like Rosa Parks to you?
New York Daily News opinionist Errol Louis says of Cindy Sheehan, who drags her own son's dead body to anti-American lie fests is "Just like Rosa Parks". There is no comparison, Errol; not between the ladies and not between the issues involved. You cheapen the 'Rosa Parks' metaphor. Shame on you and on all writers that devalue the language to cover a rhetorical deficit. I can't believe Rosa would be happy with this either.

[This cat, Vijay Prashad, said it first, but who reads this nasty commie's work? Hat tip to Confederate Yankee.]

The combines are rolling

The old feeder isn't going to have much time for blogging for a while. The combines are in the field, soon the bins will be bursting with beans. Just when the Plains Feeder has evolved into a Slithering Reptile in the TTLB Ecosystem.

Swedish Meatball Communist Party

In my continuing effort to root out Marxist Thinking, I happened upon Daniel Hansson's blog, me, life and the world. Hansson is a student in climatological oceanography in Göteborg, Sweden. In his post, The Swedish Communist party, he blogs the web site of the Swedish Communist party.
I come from a municipality where they have seats in the municipal council and have had plenty of teachers during upper level of compulsory and upper secondary school that were communists and members of the party. However, they never managed to lure me to "the dark side" of politics
---
Anyway, when I was browsing the website I was once again reminded of how absolutely mad and out of touch they are.
Even if you aren't interested in what the Swedish Commies are doing, Daniel's blog is a good browse.

Grain farmers get Katrina heads-up

Welcoming homeless hurricane survivors, sending volunteers with supplies and raising money to help, American private citizens have comported themselves well. Now we face the prospect of doing with less (read: real budget cuts - pork slashed), one way or another, to pay for the public sector's role in the rebuilding.

I hope we can do it without too much of our public money getting lost to bureaucratic inefficiency, eaten up by corruption or just plain stolen. Maybe we can also do it without whining or squabbling over our share of the doing with less.

I came across this article: Proper grain storage could be more important than usual this year, at Agriculture Online, Successful Farming mag's website. Grain farmers are taking steps to mitigate the economic impact Katrina may have in store for the crops in the fields now.

David Shelton, a UNL agricultural engineer at the Haskell Agricultural Laboratory near Concord, Nebraska said "Proper grain storage could be more important than usual this year" because "Producers may want to store grain longer than usual this season in hopes that grain prices will improve once Gulf Coast ports return to full capacity".
Mitigation.
Responsible folks mitigate their damages. No wonder we don't see much of it.

Euro-Wuss Update

Euro Wuss
From Overlawyered: The European Parliament was recently thwarted in its effort to mother the poor, sunburned Eurolaborer.

EuroParliaMom wanted to force them to wear their shirts in the heat of the day so they wouldn't get skin cancer. Maybe it was because the average Euroworker puts in so few hours it would be impossible to get a sunburn, but I'm guessing the real reason the proposal was dropped was that most of the outdoor sweat labor in Europe is done by darker skinned workers these days. Real Euro Wussies don't dig ditches!

What next, the 'clean underwear' bill?

Keeping the Wiki honest

Babalu Blog's George Moneo has a neat-o post regarding the Wikipedia's sometimes truthless entries. I admit, I use the Wikipedia, usually to find a date or name. At the same time, I think its structure allows for a sort of democratic (read: plebeian) bias to enter where only scholarship should tread. Thus it should be used with caution, lest your research be tainted with the aforementioned plebeian axe grinding.

George couldn't sit still for the commie propaganda he found in the Wikipedia's entry on the "healthcare" system in Cuba. For example:
Cuba's healthcare is widely recognized as one of the best in the world. Since the Cuban revolution, Cuba has been committed to the international struggle, sending medicine, doctors and teachers to the third world. Cuba has spent large sums of money in order to take care of the world's less fortunate. Today, Cuba has over 20 0000 health workers in Venezuela, 600 hundred in Honduras, 200 doctors in South Africa, and many more spread around the word.
So what does George do? He rewrites the entry, of course, in the spirit of the Wiki. If you ever use the Wikipedia for research, you should see George 's work.

I don't think there is any way to keep the Wiki honest, George, it is way too democratic for that. But keep trying!

Omaha Mayor Fahey Named in Lawsuit

Steve Wigodsky has sued Omaha's Mayor Mike Fahey in Small Claims Court. The old feeder thinks he remembers Steve from school days at Westside. The story was on the 10:00 News on Channel 6 last night. The suit addresses Steve's complaint that the Mayor is so invisible that he can't get a meeting with him. "I just wanted five or 10 minutes of his time.", Wigodsky pleaded. He asked for about $5, evidently the amount Steve thinks a face-to-face with Fahey is worth.

Fahey, often called unapproachable, aloof, and out of town, can't be bothered. Rather than meet with Steve, a taxpayer from a nice part of town, the Mayor will continue to fight in court. I should say Fahey's City Hall will do the fighting. On the taxpayer's dime.

I never noticed anything too odd about Steve Wigodsky in school. And his motives for wanting to meet the Mayor seem normal, even civic minded. But the Mayor has no time for ordinary constituents. At least not the ones living west of 72nd Street. Like Steve.

Update: Fahey and the City of Omaha get sued for real, "WBE is suing the city for $10 million" Channel 6.

Pledge of Allegiance Unconstitutional

International Marxism requires godlessness of its true adherents, while most flavors of Socialism, even National Socialism (read: Nazism), merely discourage traditional religious faith. Mr. Nudow's California court victory brings the US closer to full blown Communism.

Public education is a bust anyhow. They don't make you say the Pledge in prison. But the inmates are free to pray or not as they please. In the joint they will even give you a Bible, or other form of Scripture, at state expense.

Michelle Malkin blogs the hot spots: One Nation, Under Atheistic Insanity...

What now? Wait for another storm?

Victims of Socialism
Katrina has washed the ugly detritus of the "Great Society" out into the daylight. It isn't pretty. How could the US have spent trillions of dollars to build the Great Society, to fight War on Poverty and this be what we got.

Large numbers poor and helpless semi-citizens. Folks who are told every day that they are oppressed, that their only hope is obeisance to Saint Check. Men whose manhood has been stolen by a Great Society that paid them to abandon their sons and daughters. That paid them not to marry or to plan a career. That paid women to breed more clients for the swelling cadres of social workers and correctional officers. That paid men and women to live in squalor. That paid them to send their kids to worthless public schools. A Great Society that left them to their own devices to form values and morals.

The powers that run the Big Easy didn't want the out of town customers to see this evidence of social failure. After all, they were gaming the system to their greasy benefit. And now Katrina has washed their shame out into the street. These folks are victims of more than just a storm. They are the miserable detritus of our experiment with socialism.

What now? Spend more money? We have already spent trillions only to see the numbers of these wretches increase. Wait for another storm?
---
Update: For an analysis that is well considered (read: less like a rant) and a treat to read see Katrina at North Western Winds.
The trouble with anti poverty programs that are too generous is that they serve to break down the cause and effect relationship between decisions that we make. I'm not arguing that the intent behind such programs is malign, but we have a responsibility to observe the results of our actions and if need be, concede that they might be ill founded. People are not turnips that will flourish - guaranteed! - if only we will give them the right amount of water and fertilizer. People live in relationships with one another and it is those webs of relation that need to be cared for. If the webs in New Orleans had been healthier, there would have been fewer people stranded and those charged with their care would not have been content to send them to the dome when there were busses that could have been used to get them out. Needless to say, such a society would not loot it's neighbors or shoot at its rescuers.
I think this Canadian might just be OK.

You look like you might survive, but you...

Katrina survivors should thank their lucky stars they weren't sick in a hospital or in a nursing home when the water came up. Deadly triage or plain old neglect, it must have been awful. Pandagon, on the other (read: left) hand, thinks it is just more conservative racism, since Negroes can't run their own lives.

Loco Louie: Bush bombed levee to drown blacks

Louis Farrakhan, that shiny Fruit of Islam, has weighed in on the deliberate flooding of Negroes in New Orleans. Seems Louie, "heard from a very reliable source who saw a 25 foot deep crater under the levee breach. It may have been blown up to destroy the black part of town and keep the white part dry."

I had heard about how Bush ordered the levees and or sea walls in New Orleans blasted with explosives, taking quick advantage of Katrina's high water to drown Negroes . This Bush did because because they didn't vote for him, or to save money on welfare, or maybe because he is just a racist. In fact I heard about this theory first from Girls Gone Fishing, and got more details at Cytations.

If the Bush gang, or anyone else, actually was trying to drown Negroes, they didn't get very many.

The Right Wing News has given the The Post-Katrina "Foot-In-Mouth-Award" to Louis for exposing this attempted genocide.

The NRA and the Katrina gun grab - part II

Today the old feeder received another e-mail response from the NRA (the gun club, not the Nebraska Rewilding Association) regarding their weak response to the official gun grab inflicted on the Katrina survivors. A day late and a dollar short, I'd say.
Thank you for contacting the NRA-ILA. In regards to your concerns, please read the following statements from Wayne LaPierre and Chris W. Cox:

National Rifle Association leader Wayne LaPierre slammed New Orleans authorities Monday for seizing legal firearms from lawful residents.

"What we've seen in Louisiana - the breakdown of law and order in the aftermath of disaster - is exactly the kind of situation where the Second Amendment was intended to allow citizens to protect themselves, " LaPierre said.

"When law enforcement isn't available, Americans turn to the one right that protects all the others - the right to keep and bear arms," LaPierre said. "This attempt to repeal the Second Amendment should be condemned."

The New York Times reported last Thursday that no civilians in New Orleans will be allowed to have guns, quoting the superintendent of police that "only law enforcement are allowed to have weapons."

A Louisiana state statute allows the chief law enforcement officer to "regulate possession" of firearms during declared emergencies. "But regulate doesn't mean confiscate," said Chris W. Cox, the NRA's chief lobbyist.

"Authorities are using that statute to do what the looters and criminals could not: disarm the law-abiding citizens of New Orleans trying to protect their homes and families," Cox said.

"The NRA will not stand idly by while guns are confiscated from law-abiding people who're trying to defend themselves," he said.

"We're exploring every legal option available to protect the rights of lawful people in New Orleans," Cox said, "and we're taking steps to overturn such laws in every state where they exist."

"Local authorities in New Orleans are turning nature's assault on human life into man's assault on human rights," LaPierre said. "Four million NRA members intend to stop this unconstitutional power grab."

Sincerely,

Amanda Millward
Here is their belated press release on the matter. Maybe, if YOU join the NRA and make yourself heard, they will be ready next time.

Hagel, Nelson minding their manners

We Nebraskans already knew our Senators wouldn't rock the boat during the Judge Roberts hearings. Half of them regularly make us look like hayseeds, but they both know what the voters back home expect.

The hearings themselves might be fun to watch if I had cable TV and all day to do it. I hear the Senators are generally acquitting themselves like the blustering idiots and miserable orators they be.

KFAB's Stone outs Omaha's 'Social Victims'

I am listening to KFAB radio (1110 AM in Omaha) at the Feedlot today. The host of the Tom Becka show (who isn't Tom, but Charlie Stone, so I'm liking it) is venting his frustration with the city's gang and dope related shootings. These shootings are getting worse, it seems. He blames the problem on PARENTS who fail to bring up their kids to do right. He's right, but he won't identify our Great Society socialist experiments as the cause of the paucity of parenting.

These young men with guns are trying to get back a manhood the Great Society took from them. They are victims, albeit not sympathetic ones. I'm afraid it is too late for them; they are busted clocks. Just throw them away. And don't try to be your kids' best friend!

Marxist thought stinks on ice.

White people among Katrina victims

Now the truth can be told: not all hurricane Katrina victims were black. I was beginning to wonder if the Canadian Girls were on to something, but now the blogs are echoing with the news that some white folks might have been affected by the storm. Yesterday, Wizbang posted this: Breaking News: White People Affected by Hurricane Too. Today, Michelle Malkin even says some of her people were touched by Katrina.

This is good news, I suppose. We don't wan't this catastrophe to turn into an ugly race thing.

Evacuation a success

I can't honestly say I followed the "Big Evacuation" very closely. I figure most folks know how to keep their heads out of the water. What I did hear made me wonder why everyone was blaming everyone else. For what? Looked to me like the evacuation we got wasn't so awful.

We all knew N.O. mayor Nagin and LA Gov. Blanco were bungling lightweights 'way before Katrina. And we knew that poor folks tricked into depending on a system that then fails them can get mean and nasty. Nobody really wants the Feds running the show in their town until the local dolts they've elected show they can't. Given all this, I'm not surprised to see this post at Wizbang: "With each passing day it is becoming increasingly clear that the evacuation of New Orleans was a phenomenal success."

Rewilding the Great Plains

The tweed jacket with elbow patches crowd are at it again. They know what we need to make ours a better world. They have a plan: the rewilding of the Great Plains: USA Today.

My Dad tells about picking up a New Yorker at the airport in Des Moines. On the long drive across Iowa to Omaha, the vistor commented that she had, "never seen so much wasteland." Because it wasn't developed, it was just wasteland, I guess. I wonder what she would think about western Nebraska or Wyoming?

These rewilders aren't just the 'give it all back to the buffaloes' crowd, whose chief proponent, Jane Fonda's ex, Ted Turner, has been buying up huge tracts of the Great Plains for years. These new cats want to rewild our prairies with African wildlife. Lions and elephants and more would roam the 'wasteland', if they get their way.

These pointy headed professors must think nobody owns this land now, or if they do, they just haven't found any good use for it yet. Grazing cattle and raising feed crops don't fit into their PETAfied view of proper land use. If Bush doesn't care about blacks, then these vapid elitists don't care about farmers and ranchers. Peasants, I guess.

I'm going to predict that this rewilding baloney never happens.

More proof Nebraskans won't like rewilding: Monkeys shot for escaping zoo!
**OK, they were chimps. Chimpanzee, orangutan, baboon, ape, it doesn't matter. They are all monkeys to me. It won't make any difference to you, either, when they get into your chicken house.

Canada gets tough on terror, eh?

If you thought Canada (send me your draftdodgers, your capital criminals, your terrorists yearning to breathe free) was welcoming Islamic Terrs with open arms, you had better think again. As Mahmoud Jab-allah, the former Toronto Islamic school principal said to be a big shot in the Egyptian terrorist group, al-Jihad. puts it in the National Post: "'This country was supposed to be different,' he said. 'Why I came to Canada? Because I know this country respects humans.'"

What's the matter Mahmoud? Did they make you eat Canadian bacon? National Health not good enough for you? Cigarettes too expensive? I'll bet you just don't like jail. And when you say the maple leaf goons are worse than the prison bulls in Egypt, I know you are lying. No mercy, indeed.

Americans just plain don't want niggers to have guns

Why is it that, even though Americans are more or less generally supportive of the Second Amendment, we have accepted the disarming of the civil populace in the wake of hurricane Katrina? Volokh, one of the first giants of the blogosphere to address this Constitutional catastrophe, may have the answer in this Reason article from February, 2005: The Klan's Favorite Law: Gun control in the postwar South:
"If you believe everything that Michael Moore says in Bowling for Columbine and his books, then you would think that 'pro-gun' people are white racists, and that 'gun control' would be a wonderful way to help minorities. But a look at America's past reveals what historian Clayton Cramer has accurately called 'The Racist Roots of Gun Control.'"
Down South, (and I'm guessing it would play the same 'up North') otherwise decent, law abiding Americans just plain don't want niggers to have guns. (Or white folks either, if they are so poor as to be niggers.)

As it is the fashion to say these days, this is not acceptable. So why are you accepting it?

Update: "Sean Penn stuns fans as he is pictured in NY POST roaming the streets of hurricane hit New Orleans -- armed with a shotgun!..." From the Drudge Report. I guess Mr. Penn is neither a 'nigger' nor is he poor, so it must be OK.

NRA responds to Katrina gun grab

I was wondering, along with a few others, why there is no outcry from the NRA over the unconstitutional confiscation of firearms from peaceable citizens in the wake of hurricane Katrina. This old feeder is a Life Member, so I asked by e-mail why no action. Here is the reply I received:
Thank you for your e-mail. Numerous media sources are reporting on an apparent campaign by New Orleans city authorities to confiscate lawfully-owned firearms from people in the city. Louisiana statute does grant the government, during a state of emergency, broad powers in regulating and controlling firearms.

However, we have seen not just with Hurricane Katrina, but other similar situations, that when police are unable to control the criminal element, people turn to the one freedom that protects all others-the Second Amendment.

While one can certainly understand the dire predicaments of all those affected by Hurricane Katrina, as we have learned throughout history, campaigns to disarm the lawful do nothing to disarm the criminal. And in truth, these restrictions make citizens less safe. Despite the valiant efforts of many law enforcement officers and rescue workers, too many of those left in the wake of Katrina are ultimately responsible for their own security and safety and that of their families and loved ones; especially when communication is virtually non-existent and police can't be quickly summoned to respond to calls for help. At these times, lawful gun ownership is paramount to personal safety.

Of course, the entire situation in New Orleans is constantly in flux. But rest assured NRA is monitoring this situation very closely and will address any activity by the government that unduly infringes upon the rights of lawful gun owners at the appropriate time. As we learn more, we will report to our members accordingly. In the interim, however, we join with all Americans in offering our thoughts, prayers, and assistance to the victims and survivors of this terrible natural disaster.

Sincerely,

Erik Eckberg
NRA-ILA
I'm sorry, Erik, but it sounds like double-talk to me. Since when do Louisiana statutes that "grant the government, during a state of emergency, broad powers in regulating and controlling firearms" supercede the US Constitution? All the more reason we need a Supreme Court that knows how to read the plain language of our Constitution.

Update: Ten Ring has more on the story and links to other responses from the NRA and the GOA (Gun Owners of America, for you squares), Plus Which you get the Packing.org crowd's in-your-face reaction and Cam Edwards, who isn't afraid to call a grab a grab.

Update: The heavyweights blog the gun grab - Instapundit's Glenn Reynolds hopes that, "that some civil rights organization -- the NRA, say -- will help the injured parties bring suit." Plus Which Dave Kopel at The Volokh Conspiracy shows the research and promises an article for Reason.com on the matter.

Update: Want a little Ugly Truth?

This doesn't look good

This doesn't look good at all. Forcible 'evacuations' to who knows where for folks who have done no wrong. Property rights , such as they are these days, have gone right out the window in a big chunk of America. Legal, Constitutionally protected weapons are being confiscated from law-abiding citizens. All this because of a second-rate disaster? How cheaply these rights are sold. Rights that were hard won by our fathers' blood are now taken away because, as Edwin Compass, the superintendent of the New Orleans police said, ''There's nothing more important than the preservation of human life.'' Not anything, Ed?

So we flush the Constitution down the drain with the shit-water these petty tyrants are soaking in. This doesn't look good.

Update: See james wagner.com: "
Gun control for the poor and the dark - an act of god."
And This: The NRA doesn't seem too concerned.

Iraq getting back to normal

Now this story from Aljazeera about the Iraqi government stiffing foreign contractors is a sure sign the nation is getting back to normal: Dispute shuts down Baghdad airport: "Baghdad, 'is not currently paying the company for the services it has rendered'." This is the Bagdad we all knew and loved. Global Strategies Group said it was because of “continued unresolved commercial issues” with the Iraqi Ministry of Transport. Seems they haven't been paid in seven months. "This issue is related to Iraq's sovereignty, and nobody is authorised to close the airport", the Iraqi transportation Minister said.

Give me a break (from insuring your beach house)

If you like John Stossel and his "Give Me a Break" pieces for 20/20, you will love his Reason article: Confessions of a Welfare Queen, that Michelle Malkin dug up. Subtitled How rich bastards like me rip off taxpayers for millions of dollars the March 2004 article exposes how FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program work to encourage risky behavior by subsidizing it. You don't need to be an actuary to understand it.

The Reason article is concerned with the fact that these government programs have been tailored to suit the needs of wealthy beach front home owners. When their mansions get washed away, tax money helps them rebuild. Think FEMA and the NFIP will build anything nice for the poor Katrina victims? Even if they spend all your tax money, I think not.

Michelle Malkin's post titled FEMA Follies, has links to further disaster fraud, waste and abuse stories. And some scary talk about how much tax money the Feds are already planning to spend on this disaster.

Update: More unpleasant flood control fraud waste and abuse stories at Wizbang - Louisiana Wasted Flood Control Money on Pork . I figure there will be plenty of this unpleasantness to go around as more of these old tax scams float to the surface.

Abe and the Avante festival in Lisbon: a coincidence?

Iberian Marxist monkeybusiness
Portugal, once one of the most aggressive imperialist nations on earth, is now reduced to being merely quaint. Of course, one might say Portugal (and, to a lesser extent, Spain) never really had much going for them. Their golden days of yore were built on stolen goods and slave labor. Without their 'colonies' to fuel their economic growth, the Portuguese are back to sardine fishing and wine making. And sharing, like the good Marxists many of them are.

The remains of former grandeur, properly maintained and managed, can do much to prop up an otherwise sorry socialist economy. The city of Lisbon has these assets in spades. As a tourist destination, (read: trap) it is a natural. Same goes for business travellers. Where would you rather have your convention, Lisbon or Omaha?

Like I said, they are 'good Marxists': they don't act crazy like North Korea; they don't have any oil like Argentina; they don't throw their weight around like China or thumb their noses at us like the rest of Europe. (Actually, they do, but it is such a small nose, nobody notices.) They don't even make us feel bad about ourselves like Cuba does for allowing Marxist abuses right in our front yard.

The Big Airlines and Big Hotel Industry will ensure you enjoy your visit to Lisbon. And the cash you drop there will enable the natives to continue living the dream in a Marxist la-la land.

Come on over! The accommodations are great, the food is excellent, and the wine, well, at least it is widely known. Don't let the commies scare you, they are harmless!

So the old feeder was wondering what kind of business Abe, of Don't Let Me Stop You, had in Lisbon recently. I wonder if it was the big anniversary celebration for the "Advance" (Avante!), the newspaper of the Portuguese Communist Party. many big-wigs from the not-so-free world are there, along with great entertainments. It must be a coincidence; Abe wouldn't, would he? Maybe he is spying on the Reds for Nebraska or the Feds. Anyhow, New Values is the theme of the Festa Avante, as their logo clearly illustrates:

Here are some of the featured acts that hail from the USA appearing at the big commie love fest:
Buffy St. Marie, Charlie Haden, Chicago Blues Explosion!, Eddie Bo, Holly Near, Jon Fromer, Kermitt Ruffins & The Barbecue Swingers, Max Roach Quartet, Melanie, Mike Glick and The New Song Trio, Odetta e Josh White, Rebel Voices, Richie Havens, Si Kahn, The Band.
These cats don't have to work State Fairs! Not when espousing Marxist thought in your act can get gigs like this for them. Lisbon is their kind of town. New values, indeed. New and improved values. So new it takes the new Marxist man to appreciate them. All others will be reeducated or shot. But not by the happy dancing dreamers in Lisbon. They are harmless. I hope Abe enjoyed the imperialist relics.

My mother was genuinely upset the first time she saw the Acropolis. Of the much vaunted Parthenon, she said, "If this is the most beautiful building ever, you'd think the Greeks would have kept it up better."

Tom Becka: Hurricane Katrina Joke

Tom Becka of KFAB radio (AM 1110 in Omaha) just told the first hurricane Katrina disaster joke I have heard on the air. It is a fake news item and goes like this: Sharks in the New Orleans flood waters are getting sick after two weeks of eating Cajun.

Of course, reading it can't match Tom's trademark rasp or his oily delivery as he worked his way up to cracking it. He just couldn't sit on it another day. I laughed, and I don't much care for Mr. Becka, personally.

Che died crapping his pants

"Look, he did crap his pants! Make sure you get a shot of this."
Mora, at Babalu Blog, reports that director Steven Soderbergh is planning a new movie about Che Guevara. The hope is that the movie will portray Che as the muderous criminal that he was, rather than glorify him as some sort of super macho revolutionist.

With all the Che Chic nonsense putting his ugly head on tee-shirts and liberal web sites, I'm not surprised Mora has doubts:
"I have a major reservation about the stated ending, which apparently shows che as brave. This is a false portrayal. che was a cold blooded killer who had 'that look' that certain people who've killed a lot of people actually have. But like the coward he was, he was crapping his pants like a yellowbelly when he knew the Bolivians meant business and this after a lifetime of killing worthy and decent people. That's how he should be portrayed and how he should go down. "
The Plains Feeder has found the revealing photo at the top of this post. It shows a Bolivian officer making sure that the photograher gets a shot of Che's soiled undies. Sadly, that photo seems to have been lost, but there is still plenty of proof that Che is Still Dead.

Omaha ready for evacuees (or is it refugees)

Preparing For Evacuees
The good people of Nebraska are always caring about their fellow man. Every time a hurricane strikes the South, some folks here load up trucks with relief supplies and head off to help the victims. This time it will be different. Hurricane Katrina was so nasty that some of the victims will need to come to us. I read about it here: WOWT | Preparing For Evacuees.
"Omaha's Civic Auditorium is reportedly set up to handle as many as 500 hurricane victims. Emergency officials aren't sure when people might arrive but when they do they say they'll be ready with everything they need."
That's the Civic Auditorium, not the Qwest Center. I thought I might get to see these preparations by pointing my browser at WOWT's CityCAM network . I came across the photo above. No kidding. At first I thought a truck loaded with inflatables had crashed, the balloons inflating on impact like air bags. But now I can see that Omaha isn't about to repeat the leadership mistakes of New Orleans. (Thanks Bubba!) No SuperDome fiasco for us. Our evacuees are going to have FUN.

I note that the Feed Trough story from WOWT refers to the storm victims coming here as evacuees right up until the end of the article, where they are called refugees. For the best take on this non-issue, I again refer the reader to Bubba's Back Porch thinkin'.

Meanwhile, Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack said that Iowa could get as many as 5,000 Gulf Coast residents. They'll be sorry they picked Iowa when they see the fun our evacuees are having.

Errol Louis has The Ugly Bullshit

New York Daily Newsprints "The ugly truth" by Errol Louis. i saw it on Drudge.
America's original and continuing sin: the shabby, contemptuous treatment this country metes out, decade after decade, to poor people in general and the descendants of African slaves in particular.
Bullshit emphasis added. I'd write more about it, but I'm already depressed today. And it can only get worse. The circle-jerk of blame just gets bigger and bigger.

Wizbang's "Advice From a Former Recovery Worker"

Wizbang's 10 Spot for Friday included a 'tip' I thought sounded stupid. Stupid on the same level that the instructions in your telephone book for what to do if your phone stops working: "call the phone company", are stupid.

Tip #3, "Advice From a Former Recovery Worker", sounds good if you are such a wuss you can't do a damn thing for yourself. Follow it and you will end up in the "Super Dome" of whatever disaster befalls you. Depending on 'THEM" to save you; wringing your hands and crying, "When are they going to bring me food? When are they going to bus me to a flush toilet?"

The old feeder suggests would-be survivors start by reading "Ragnar's Urban Survival: A Hard-Times Guide To Staying Alive In The City". And stop waiting for them to tell you what you need to know.

This post shamelessly promoted at Wizbang's Carnival of the Trackbacks.

Another Hurricane Tragedy

Bruce at Conservative Cat has lost his sense of humor, according to Ferdy. It was lost when Bruce was reading about Hurricane Katrina here.
Don't let this happen to you. If you see a sense of humor wandering around near the Huffington Post, immediately grab it and pull it to safety. The sanity you save may be your own.
Have a good Labor Day. Fix up a food basket for a poor union family.

Update: The Blog publishes Randall Robinson, (Author of real books, such as The Debt What America Owes to Blacks) who reports that, " black hurricane victims in New Orleans have begun eating corpses to survive." Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse. How long did it take these cats to revert to cannibalism? A few rough days. A good sized storm flood and no help from the government for a few days, is that all that separates city folk from cannibals? It can't be just black victims, as Randall "black like me" Robinson reports, can it?

Moonbat Girls Go Fishing

Its Friday, and high time for a good laugh. Girls Go Fishing For Facts, a blog/website that combines a sexy Canuck wet dream style with, "Animal rights, environment conspiracies coverups and conservation". You need to dig a bit, but Arlene and her sister have it all; from killing baby seals and poor people to space aliens. And George Bush is behind it all. For more moonbattery, but fewer laughs see Michelle Malkin's The Blame Game, and Chrenkov's compendium of choice commentary.

Oil price is incomprehensible to the inscrutable ChiComs

A particularly nasty analysis of the relationship between the price of oil and the unpleasantness caused by hurricane Katrina. Read at your own peril.

People's Daily Online: "Oil price is incomprehensible"

Our folks are getting drowned like rats and the ChiComs bitch because our awful natural disaster is running up the cost of oil for them. Oil they need to make the stuff to refill the shelves of the flooded and looted Wal-Mart stores. The cost of energy might just offset the advantage they get from using slave labor. They don't like it. God forbid their costs of production should rise to the levels found throughout most of the Free World. Folks in the USA might have to learn how to make shoes again. And everything else.

Fats Domino missing in New Orleans!
