Barbaro put down - video

Horse Snuff Flic
Can you spot Barbaro in line at the glue factory? I think I'd care more if I had owned the nag. It is being reported that Barbaro's last meal was grass, which the condemned horse ate heartily.

Celebrate Burns' Night

Scots, wha hae on haggis fed!
All you need is a haggis with neeps and tatties. Them as have fully functioning livers might like a drop of good Scotch whiskey. And some of Robert Burns' poetry, traditionally his Address to a Haggis is read. My favorite of Scotland's best:
'Scots, wha hae wi' Wallace bled,
Scots, wham Bruce has aften led,
Welcome tae your gory bed,
Or tae Victorie!

'Now's the day, and now's the hour:
See the front o' battle lour,
See approach proud Edward's power -
Chains and Slaverie!

'Wha will be a traitor knave?
Wha will fill a coward's grave?
Wha sae base as be a slave?
Let him turn and flee!

'Wha, for Scotland's king and law,
Freedom's sword will strongly draw,
Freeman stand, or Freeman fa',
Let him on wi' me!

'By Oppression's woes and pains!
By your sons in servile chains!
We will drain our dearest veins,
But they shall be free!

'Lay the proud usurpers low!
Tyrants fall in every foe!
Liberty's in every blow! -
Let us do or dee!'
If only President Bush could be so eloquent in his efforts to inspire us to get on with the business of killing Mohammedan fanatics.

Italians killing themselves over global warming

Al "Heat Wave" Gore
Being an Italian man used to mean something. I'm not sure what, but it wasn't today's image of a fruity Communist mammoni who likes to eat pasta and cross-dresses now and then. Ba-da-bing.

Now it seems the once-proud sons of Garibaldi are committing suicide because the weather forecast is bad. The prospect of further global warming, combined with failure of the world's governments to make all of us ride bicycles, is more than these Euro-wussies can bear.
---
We should get some of this deadly political despair started among the environmental crazies here in the 'States. The old feeder thinks that an Al Gore presidency could do the job. I mean, if we have to have a Democrat, why not Al? Gore proved he could win in 2000, but I fear he is too white and too male now.

John Kerry: Swiftboating Fears

This is good for a laugh: Kerry to bow out of '08 presidential race - The Boston Globe. He is said to be blaming the "study hard or you'll wind up stuck in Iraq" joke. I doubt it. the man has no fear of jokes; he is one.

I figure he just doesn't want to release his official military records. At least not until his grandkids are dead.

What really gives me heartburn

Home Made Pickled Eggs
If I eat my spicy pickled eggs right before bed, I will get a nasty, sulfurous heartburn. If I top off the eggs with peanut-butter smeared tortillas, I will puke sometime during the night. An evil smelling puke so acidic that it eats the enamel off of my teeth.

What could possibly be worse? How about getting up this morning after suffering the heartburn of the damned, hoping to see the whole Nation transformed and inspired by last night's State of the Union address by President Bush, and instead I get this analysis from Drudge:
BUSH BEATS 'IDOL'
STATE OF UNION SPEECH PULLS 6.7 RATING/10 SHARE FOR FOX-TV, TOPS NBC'S 6.6 RATING/10 SHARE, 5.7/8 CBS; ABC LAST PLACE AT 5.0/7... MORE... TOTAL BIG 4 'STATE' 24.0 RATING/35 SHARE OVER 'IDOL' 19.0 RATING/28 SHARE ON FOX... DEVELOPING...
As if that wasn't nauseating enough, Drudge assaults my bleary, sleepless eyes by printing, in red, that the terrorist odd couple of Iranian fanatic Mohammedan Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and North Korea's criminally insane Kim Jong il are teaming up to nuke America soonest. Maybe if I were to eat my pickled eggs earlier in the day. Like, now. It can't get much worse.

Elkhorn Annexation

Click here to read the latest Plains Feeder post about Elkhorn annexation.
---
Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey's Axis of Evil continues to press its anti self-determination campaign of conquest and subjugation in Douglas County. As I 've said before, adios liberty and hello "park your cars on concrete", no firecrackers busybody meddling from the city slickers. I have no pecuniary interest in the outcome. But I have been an habitué of the pleasant streets and fine business establishments in Elkhorn for many decades. I like the 'flavor' of the town and its people. You can smoke 'em if you got 'em in most places. I don't smoke, but I'd hate to see it changed by being annexed by a City whose values and ways are quite different. Different in ways I don't like.

I have been opposed to the City of Omaha's forced and unfriendly takeover for idealistic reasons. Mayor Fahey is a callous and wicked man to think IF, simply because it isn't, on its face, against the law, AND because it would help him pull his financially beleaguered city out of the mess he and his pals have gotten it into, he should do it. This logic amounts to mere justification for doing that which is inherently wrong under our Constitution. Omaha's unwelcome annexation of Elkhorn amounts to a taking, in my mind. And it also carries with it a raft of good, old-fashioned taxation without representation.

Even The Great Helmsman, Chairman Mao Tse-tung, (thats how its spelled in my LRB) warned that to pursue hegemony over the unwilling was wrong.

NY reader asks about John Monetti

Update: Click for the latest post on John Monetti.

John Monetti in NY
A Plains Feeder reader from Long Island, NY has e-mailed the feedlot with a copy of the following message she sent to Nebraska State Attorney General Jon Bruning in which she voices her concern over recent developments in the John H. Monetti case. You may recall that Mr. Monetti faces charges in Nebraska for allegedly raping an underage, autistic girl from Blair. Mr. Monetti is now free on $2.5 million bail and back on Long Island, to the concern of many locals who were tricked by his posturing as a teacher, school administrator and youth riding coach. Here is her letter:
Dear Attorney General Bruning,

I have been following the John Monetti case since news of his May 06 arrest in Blair Nebraska, was reported in the Long Island newspapers. The case is of great interest to my family as my 15 year old daughter took riding lessons with John Monetti for over 5 years.

I am concerned that the case is not getting the attention it deserves. Charges have been dropped, court dates have been postponed, held over or are undisclosed. It seems that the case is slipping through the cracks, all while John Monetti is living his life on Long Island. We have left local stores on two occasions during the last two weeks in order to avoid him.

Are you aware that he was applying for employment as an equestrian judge? Please note the attached link to a 1-4-07 article entitled "Monetti nearly a horse show judge,"
in "The Times Of Smithtown" http://www.timesofsmithtown.com/

I really would like to know what is happening with this case, when is the trial date? What will the sentence be if he is found guilty on the reduced charges? What would sentencing have been without the reduction in charges?

Considering that John Monetti has chosen a career path that involves constant contact with young girls the outcome of this case should be of great concern to all involved

Thank-you
This is the reply she received from our tough on molesters, all for Safe Kids Attorney General Jon Bruning, essentially passing the buck:
Dear Ms. --------:

Thank you for taking time to contact our office.

Our office is not handling the case that you mentioned. The Washington County Attorney would be the most appropriate person to handle the concerns you’ve addressed. You may contact the county attorney at the following address or telephone number:

Washington County Attorney
1555 Colfax St.
Blair, NE 68008
(402)426-6811

We wish you the best of luck with your efforts to resolve this matter. Please feel free to contact us again if you have other questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

JON BRUNING
Attorney General
I wonder if Mr. Bruning's suggestion to write to the Washington County Attorney, the engineer of the charge reductions in the case that worry our reader, will help? If this case gets swept under the rug, if Mr. Monetti is sent back to NY to prey on more kids, I for one, will blame the Nebraska justice system. As the head of that system, I will hold Attorney General Bruning responsible.

We wish you the best of luck with your next election campaign, Jon.

Addendum: Here is something Jon Bruning is doing to help lock up internet pedophiles. AG Bruning, in spite of looking like a high school coach, isn't a bad cat. Some of what he does puzzles me, but that is true of everyone I know in politics. Monetti's case won't wait for the Unicameral to move.

Barack Obama a Cake Boy?

From Blackfive: Barack Obama as straight up cake boy. Listen to the Mp3 from Sir Mix A-Lot that Uncle Jimbo has linked. First, I laughed, then, the more I thought about it...

Back to work

The bad hard disk
It was a long haul. After I managed to recover my data from the balky drive pictured above, I decided to get rid of the ATI All-In-Wonder Pro video and TV card that hasn't worked properly for over a year. Needless to say, nothing worked as advertised nor went together like Bill Gates' mythical seamless web. My home-made computer is back at work, no thanks to anyone but me.

The old feeder, however, decided to take Martin Luther King Day off. After all, its the law, no? After a two-mouse night (two mice, maddened by the cold, broke into the feedlot and immediately went for the peanuts I use on my indoor trap line) I figured I would be ready to blog this morning. But no! Blogger wasn't working. It is a good thing nothing really important has been going on this past week.

Whats new?

Castro is still dying, being eaten alive by a demon in his gut.

Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel, still overwrought by losing the Viet-Nam war, continues to take out his guilt feelings on President Bush, calling his troop surge plan, "the most dangerous foreign policy blunder since Vietnam." Like Bob Kerrey before him, Chuck should kiss his White House dreams goodbye and settle into a job that makes self-loathing easy.

Omaha's Blitzkrieg move to engulf its peaceful neighbors in Elkhorn by force proceeds unabated. I have already said my piece about this ill-advised and anti-democratic travesty of legalized plunder.

If the people of Elkhorn can't do more than whine to preserve their city from being ruled and taxed by the downtown gang of fruitcakes that calls itself the Omaha City Council, then they deserve to suffer the myriad of idiotic city ordinances they pass, chafe at paying taxes incurred by the Council's stupidity and see their police, fire and other local functions fall under the incompetent aegis of the Blue Island in Red State Nebraska that is Omaha. Of course, if the otherwise out-on-their asses Elkhorn city employees all join one of Mayor Fahey's much loved Democrat Party supporting unions, they too can get a piece of the action.

Oh! Those wacky Iraqi hangmen were at it again. This time they pulled one of the condemned men's head clean off! I can't wait for the video.

Trouble Compounded

The old feeder won't be posting anything for a while. One of the hard disk drives I use for the blog is croaking. I'm trying to massage some of my data off the old 160 GB IDE before it goes belly up completely.
---
Friday Update: The rebel hard drive has yielded to my rough interrogation and is now spilling its bits to the new replacement. I'll be back.

Meanwhile, I think Nebraska's hippy peacenik Senator Chuck Hagel heard the Plains Feeder was down. Otherwise why would he pick this week to raise his ugly, VD (Viet-Nam Disease) riddled head up again to take another bite out of our beleaguered President's back. Any day now, I expect to see him being serviced by the "girls" on the View.

As if that weren't enough, the Fahey-OPS Axis of Evil has suckered the feckless Nebraska Supreme Court to join in their anti-self determination campaign of conquest and subjugation in Douglas County. Adios liberty and hello "park your cars on concrete" busybody meddling from the city slickers. They knew I wasn't watching.

Accused child molester John Monetti back in the news

Update: Click for the latest post on John Monetti.

Monetti: looking for a new victim?
My contacts on Long island, where Mr. Monetti is living while out on a $2.5 million bail, sent me this story from the Times of Smithtown. I quote:
John Monetti, 38, a St. James resident set to stand trial in the coming days for the alleged repeated sexual assault of an autistic underage girl in Nebraska, has recently been attempting to judge horse shows on Long Island. This former firefighter and schoolteacher holds a license, not yet revoked, to judge these shows, where competitors include adolescent girls, and he nearly secured a seat as judge at an upcoming Island Series Horse Show in February.
Does it sound to you like Mr. Monetti is "trolling" for a new little love, or do you think he just needs the money? Here is the kind of place where he was trying to get a job: Smoke Run Farm, one of the kiddy equestrian camps where he used to judge horse shows. Looks like a candy store for a child molester, no?

Mr. Monetti's case has been bound over to the Nebraska District Court (Dist. 6) in Blair, and, so far, no trial date has been set. If you are worried that the accused will get off easy, you should contact our Nebraska State Attorney General's office in Lincoln. AG Jon Bruning has vowed to crack down on internet sex predators. I hope he is riding shotgun on the Washington County Attorney prosecuting the case for the state.

Not only is Mr. Monetti accused of locating his underage and autistic child rape victim on the internet, but he has held positions of trust as a school teacher, school administrator and riding coach. Evidently he still seeks such opportunities. A good reason that these stories shouldn't be swept under the rug just because they are unpleasant. I don't believe he thinks he has done anything wrong; like most sex perverts, whatever is wrong with him can't be fixed.

What is in the truck at Port of Miami?

Besides middle-eastern men?
MiamiHerald.com reports a suspicious truck has been stopped at the Dante B. Fascell Port of Miami-Dade. It smells like terrorists; the cab's three "middle-eastern" occupants were arrested. Two of them were hiding in the sleeper. So far, nobody has mentioned what was in the semi-trailer. Fox News has more.
---
See: Wizbang for developing story and links to other blogs.
---
I forgot that the Miami Herald forces you to log in to read their special news. Here is what they are reporting now about the stuff in the container-trailer:
Federal sources said the manifest described the cargo was auto parts, but that is not what was found. Instead, authorities found two 55-gallon containers in the back of the truck.

Miami-Dade fire's hazmat unit was examining those containers.
Evidently port operations are disrupted.
---
Update: Seems the authorities say all is OK, no danger, etc. Gateway Pundit sums it up. Sleep tight, folks.

Rumors of War

I saw it on the Drudge Report in red, so it must be a serious rumor:
Israel has drawn up secret plans to destroy Iran's uranium enrichment facilities with tactical nuclear weapons, the SUNDAY TIMES of London is planning to report, British media sources tell DRUDGE... MORE...
Kim Priestap has more at Wizbang.
---
Updated: Read more about this development at News.com Australia, Turkish Daily News, and the Jerusalem post. The original story is purported to have been leaked to the Sunday Times by Israeli military sources.
---
The old feeder says: go for it! But I would be surprised if Israel hasn't had such plans in the works for many years. What good is it to have a Nuclear Option if you don't make plans for ways you might exercise it. The US and other nations with atomic weapons, like Russia, China and Pakistan, each surely have a nuclear plan for Iran. Just in case.

Biased News for Biased Audiences

Twisted News?
December Gallup News Service poll: Majority Believe Iraq Coverage Biased:
Most Americans are convinced that media coverage of the conflict in Iraq is inaccurate and portrays the situation as being worse than it actually is, a new survey shows.
---
On the other hand, a majority of Democrats (55 percent) say that news media coverage of the situation there is accurate, with most of the rest saying that it is inaccurate and biased toward making the situation there appear better than it really is.
Between our news being twisted, biased, and faked, I'm surprised that public confidence in the MSM hasn't been eroded even more than this poll indicates.

Weeding out the idiots

Darwin says: Let the kids play!
The main-stream media, already upset that Saddam Hussein was hanged expeditiously and publicly in less than a friendly and serene setting, now has another reason to condemn Iraqi justice. It seems several kids have been killed trying to copy Saddam's hanging at home. I don't see any problem with this development.

Growing up is dangerous for a good reason. According to the notion of natural selection, the fatal pitfalls of youth serve to eliminate the really stupid or unduly reckless of our offspring from the genetic pool. If kids get killed before they can breed, their bad tendencies are not passed on to pollute future generations. It is a good scheme, even if it ain't scientific and doesn't comport with the religious dogma du jour.

When we mess with this system, it bites back. For example: the invention of eyeglasses enabled the poorly sighted to find food and sex partners as well as those with naturally sharp eyes. The result is a population that can only be described as half-blind. It only took a few generations.
---
A number of folks were surprised when I grew up. The rest were pissed off.

CNN Apologizes to Barack Osama Obama

I think this whole CNN Osama-Obama Name Mistake news play is no more than an effort by a fawning MSM to divert attention from Barack's big ears.

Saddam: hanged in a "hostile environment"?

Serenity Now
I can't believe some otherwise normal people are complaining that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's execution by hanging was carried out in a "hostile environment". How much more hostile can your environs get than this: surrounded by vengeful roughnecks who have you tied up and are fixing to hang you as quick as they can get the noose on you? Would the drop have been been any more unpleasant for Saddam had one of his executioners spit on him?

Bob Murphy, ABC News senior vice president, upset that cell-phone videos have surfaced that show Hussein exchanging taunts with his executioners, is quoted in the WaPo:
It's a different angle on the same event, It has much more audio and ambient sound. They're clearly taunting him. It's a much more hostile environment than you get from watching the video this morning. The earlier video makes it seem much more passive and serene than it actually was.
Passive and serene? Get a grip. There is no such thing as a passive or serene hanging. Or, for that matter, a passive and serene execution by lethal injection. The last time I was there, prison was short on serenity and passivity as well. I don't think it is intended to be.

They don't call it punishment for nothing. Saddam could have had worse, and probably would have if it hadn't been for the US.

Happy New Year from the Feedlot!

New Year
The first real snow of the winter fell on the feedlot New Year's Eve. Like most first snows, the two or three inches we received were preceded by an unpleasant freezing rain. And the snow didn't actually fall, it was applied by a strong wind.

I rang in the New Year iced in, listening to other cats' travel woes on my police scanner. The long, steep lane here was still impassable this morning, but as you can see from the picture of my front yard, the sun is shining again. The new year looks good.
---
Best wishes to you and yours, dear readers, for a happy, healthy and prosperous 2007.
---

Out with the old...
On New Year's, many Italians throw their old TV sets and other appliances out the window, literally. The theme of the holiday is "out with the old, in with the new", and it can be lots of fun if you don't get hurt. Why should this be limited to things folks have gotten tired of over the year? Tiresome dictators and despots of every stripe should get the same.
