Hagel Poll Results and a new poll: Mountain Lions

Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel Poll Results
As promised, the results of this poll are guaranteed absolutely accurate. Using a sample selected by the whims of such forces as drive folks to vote in polls posted on second-rate blogs, and with those same folks only half-heartedly prevented from repeated voting, the conclusion is obvious. The American People have spoken. The statistical analysts employed here at the Plains Feeder have concluded that senator Hagel should get off President Bush's back and give up his dream of running for higher office unless he is willing to switch parties.

The latest Feedlot Poll concerns what to do about the burgeoning mountain lion problem in the Omaha, Nebraska area. You may cast your vote in the sidebar. i believe the possible responses cover the waterfront as far as suggestions I have heard so far. If you have a better idea that isn't a listed option, simply put your thoughts into a comment. The stats department here at the Feedlot will consider all submissions.

The Hagel poll results will be read by the Senator or one of his minions, as previously noted. The results of the current Mountain Lion Poll will be made available to Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey, the Douglas and Sarpy County commissioners, the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources, and Governor Dave Heineman, if he isn't too busy promoting agri-tourism.

Montana attitude

Alan Caruba writes Who's Afraid Of Osama Bin Laden? at the Montana News association web site.
It hardly matters anymore whether Osama bin Laden is alive or dead. He is, like the face of Ernesto “Che” Guevara on a t-shirt, an image of a romanticized despotism.
---
The question of whether bin Laden is alive or dead has become irrelevant. The world needs only to get on with the job of destroying al Qaeda, head, stem and root.
Mr. Caruba also writes a weekly column for The National Anxiety Center, whose mast reads "The good news is... the bad news is wrong!"

Good reading for those sick like dog

The old feeder has been stricken with a nasty case of the common cold. When the barometer hit rock bottom yesterday morning, I thought my head would bust open. With no liver, I can't take even an aspirin. Home-made chicken soup, gallons of it, supplemented by turkey carcass soup seems to soothe if not cure the miseries. Heaven forbid the bird flu gets here, there will be no relief.

No sooner than the foot feels walkable, than I walk out in public and catch the first communicable disease around. Anyhow, this nasty cold has given me the opportunity to re-read one of my favorite books. Originally titled The Kraken Wakes, Out of the Deeps by John Wyndham, the 1953 sci-fi presages such current TV series as Surface and Invasion. Wyndham also wrote the book that inspired the sci-fi movie classic Village of the Damned. Another book by Wyndham, The Day of the Triffids was also adapted into a (not so good) movie and a rather better BBC TV serial version that adheres more closely to the book.

Wyndham has been criticized as being, "the master of the middle-class catastrophe", but I find his works well written and fun to read. It is worth noting that Mr. Wyndham raises the question of the British gun control laws in Out of the Deeps. He is highly critical of the government which invariably seeks to deny its citizens the means to defend themselves, even in the face of a 'middle class catastrophe'. An unusual stance for an Englishman, but I guess they can't all be pantywaists. Shades of the hurricane Katrina gun grab.

The old feeder isn't completely well yet, but I'll try to ease back into blogging a bit. Time for more chicken soup.

I'm grateful. Thanks for everything.

Strange memories: John F. Kennedy assassination

With no time to blog yesterday, and not much today, the old feeder wanted to do a bit on the anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's assassination. It was only 42 years ago, and there are still plenty of folks who can recall that day quite well. I sure do.

I was going to school in the Virginia suburbs of Washington D.C. at the time. Immediately everyone thought that JFK's murder had to be part of a giant plot. So I went to the White House to hang around, hoping to get some photographs of Soviet paratroopers or whatever. No such luck, although I stuck around most of that night, until after Jackie returned.

Today I was reading the Pioneer Press' web site when I found this odd story; Memories of assassination are better kept to oneself. The squareheads at the Pioneer Press don't really want you to read their stuff, and will require a 'registration', so I will quote at length. Joe Soucheray writes about his own recollections of the day, mentioning that he had, "never actually thought about the wound to the president's head."
That's why I was knocked back by a full-page color advertisement on of Tuesday's Pioneer Press. It was an ad for an oil painting called "Pieta,'' which is Italian for compassion and the name of Michelangelo's sculpture of the Madonna holding the lifeless Christ.

It wasn't long before most of us in the newsroom were expressing amazement at this work of art.

The artist, Mark Balma, the ad copy reads, captured "a moment at Parkland Hospital witnessed by few and never photographed. In creating this historical painting," the copy continues, "the artist shares his interpretation and feelings about this moment."

I'll say. The main theme of the painting seems to be a woman who looks like Geena Davis cradling the fallen president, who looks vaguely like Gary Busey. It is clear that the president's head has been blown off. But Jackie's pink coat and pillbox hat look fresh from the dry cleaner's; and the head wound, though graphically expressed, is not gory because Jackie's gloved right hand appears to be holding in the president's gray matter.

More than a dozen authorities representing various agencies are the background, presumably stunned at the moment the Lincoln limousine has arrived at the hospital. One of the agents, the agent closest to the car, a secret service agent I'm betting, resembles, and not at all vaguely, Kevin Costner.

I also managed to pick out Gerald Ford, G. Gordon Liddy, Tom Watson, Rosa Parks and George H.W. Bush, but maybe for the untrained eye it is natural to see familiar faces.
Well, I found a copy of the painting in Google's cache, and reproduced it above. Not quite up to the Pieta moniker, the grotesque painting reminded the old feeder of a similar project he had undertaken a couple of years ago to commemorate the 40th anniversary of JFK's murder. It was supposed to be funny, and appeal to my gun-nut friends. For reasons of taste, however, the project was a complete flop. I couldn't get anyone interested in buying a special edition of the Mannlicher-Carcano rifle allegedly used by Lee Harvey Oswald to kill Kennedy.

For those of you with a proper sense of historical proportion and a sick sense of humor, I have included a link to the original rifle sales poster from 2003. If you thought Mark Balma's painting is offensive, don't click this thumbnail to download a full-size, printable PDF version of the advert.
Reposted at 7:00 PM just for the hell of it.

Polk County to Des Moines, IA sex offenders: "Keep moving!"

State 29 noted a while back that the Polk County, Iowa Board of Supervisors was considering restrictions on where sex offenders could live. State 29 doesn't like the idea; in his view it persecutes those who have 'paid their debt'. Whether this restriction idea is constitutional or not is iffy. Ex cons can't have guns in most states. Is that unconstitutional?

At any event, the Polk County Board passed the restrictions today. This comes after cities like Council Bluffs and Des Moines (in Polk County) passed exclusionary ordinances. It isn't surprising, the rural folks don't like the cities' pushing their undesirables out into the unincorporated countryside.

It seems everyone wants to make these cats move away. We admit that some of them are broken clocks; they can't be fixed. We don't have the guts to kill them, and we don't want to put them all away for life. At least we don't want to pay for putting them away for life. We won't lock them up, but we will lock them out? At some point the difference becomes irrelevant.

I would be OK with outlawing these broken clocks. By outlaw, I mean removing them from the sight of the law. Once a cat was outlawed, his life, liberty, property and even his sensibilities would no longer be afforded the protection of the law. Nobody would have to tolerate outlaws as neighbors. Outlaws couldn't prefer criminal charges against honest folks, or sue them for damages. Anyone could kill an outlaw with impunity. The really bad ones wouldn't suffer long.

As it is, I get the feeling we are so gutless that we would like pass so many restrictions and heap so much shame on these miserable wretches that they will give up and kill themselves. Maybe they should. Our collective hands will be clean, no?
IF it chance your eye offend you,
Pluck it out, lad, and be sound:
’Twill hurt, but here are salves to friend you,
And many a balsam grows on ground.

And if your hand or foot offend you,
Cut it off, lad, and be whole;
But play the man, pack up and move you,
When your sickness is your soul.
Apologies to A.E. Housman

CBS' 60 Minutes to sink New Orleans

Drudge had a "Flash" this morning about a Time magazine story saying the recovery efforts in New Orleans are more screwed up than previously thought. Big surprise. Here is a link, but Drudge moves 'em around, so...

But the big story this morning is from the Bayou Buzz: Will CBS 60 Minutes Sink New Orleans? (And also a Drudge "Flash") Seems 60 Minutes will air a segment tonight in which 'experts' will claim New Orleans is really doomed by rising waters.

Naturally, the folks in Louisiana hope this grim scenario isn't true. The Bayou Buzz story quotes numerous letters that important folks with a stake in seeing New Orleans recover from hurricane Katrina and the fiasco that followed have sent to CBS asking for a fact-check on the gloomy story.
Louisiana, which has been attempting to recover from the horrific impact of two horrific hurricanes within a span of a month is now asking Sixty Minutes to delay a segment that is set to be broadcast Sunday which Louisiana Recovery Authority Executive Director, Andy Kopplin has called "inaccurate and unbalanced"

The segment is focused upon the opinion of a professor who is claiming that New Orleans, within this century, will be detached from the continent and protected by very high levees.
Whether CBS will delay airing tonight's scheduled 'death sentence for New Orleans story is doubtful. Not only is the cat already out of the bag, but CBS in general and 60 Minutes in particular, have not been known to let facts stand in the way of a 'make a difference' story. Remember Dan Rather? I wonder if this Professor Tim Kusky CBS quotes sent his study to CBS by fax from a Kinko's?

Update: Holy Coast had this story on friday. Silly me. HC's Rick Moore reminds us how "House Speaker Dennis Hastert suggested that rebuilding New Orleans was a mistake" right after the Katrina floods. How can 60 Minutes agree with anything Hastert said?

Update: Bayou Buzz's Steve Sabludowsky, a New Orleans native, questions Prof. Kusky's credentials, and asks 60 Minutes to apologize.

More Mountain Lions

Mountain lion mania is what the Omaha KM3TV News tonight called the recent string of sightings. They report this sighting:
A middle school kept students indoors Friday, after someone thought they saw a mountain lion. The possible sighting happened Friday in Valley, Nebraska. A person called 911 just after the sighting near a YMCA and not far from the middle school. School officials kept students indoors for the rest of the day. They also called parents to pick up their kids as a precaution. A few weeks ago, a dead mountain lion was found on Interstate 80 near Gretna.
I really need to think up some poll questions. I'd like to get a sense of what other folks think we ought to do, if anything, about the apparently increasing lion population. How long before the Nebraska rewilding underground suggests that 'mountain lion mania' is really only mass hysteria?

Republicans reply to "Cut and Run" - "Put Up or Shut Up"

The House Republicans called the Democrats out on their recent desperate round of politicizing our successes on the Iraq front of the war on Jihad terrorists. You know, the "Our troops have become the enemy. We need to change direction in Iraq," Democrat noise made by Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania, who finally said it: pull out the troops and declare a Viet-Nam style defeat.

Well, they got what they never wanted a straight up or down vote on the idea. The cowards lost 403-3. I say cowards because most Democrats lacked the guts to vote the way their mouths have been running lately.

The Democrat idiots that put Murtha up to this now claim the vote was "political". Well, yes, it was. Isn't that what happens in Congress? Votes on political matters? Ha ha, is all I can say.
The old feeder notes that the lefties are wont to call Murtha their "Hawk". I guess they have to, since John Kerry's swiftboat heroics were shown to be lies and the rest of them are avowed cut and run sissies.

You live and you learn

I thought HuskerBlawgs was about Big Red football. I don't follow football much at all. As I was trying to settle on a scheme for my growing blogroll, I browsed on over. HuskerBlawgs' Stan Sipple calls it "Observations of the legal scene from the Cornhusker State, home of Roscoe Pound and Justice Clarence Thomas' in-laws, and beyond."

It is like advance sheets that are fun to read, the good parts of the Daily Record, and a slick law blog rolled into on, and beyond. A Great Plains Blog I'll be reading. It isn't about football. Not that there is anything wrong with Big Red football.

Senator John Kerry - Old Can't-Do Face

Old Can't-Do Face
Senator and sore loser John Kerry speaks in support of John 'White Flag' Murtha's desperate proposal to pull a Viet-Nam style cut and run. His Can-Do Face is now melted into a Can't Do Face. What a tremendous endorsement. I guess he would know a bit about losing, both campaigns and wars. I'm making a shit list. Anyone who votes to give up and go home instead of voting to fight on to victory in Iraq is going on it. The Democrats and and some RINOs really want to turn this war into another Viet-Nam. They want us to lose.

Omaha Mayor Fahey to 'Mediate' OPS school take-over

"I'll watch the coop", said Fahey the fox
Omaha's annexation-happy Mayor Mike Fahey has offered to mediate the OPS dispute. As you may recall, that fight started when the Omaha Public School district suddenly announced it was going grab up tax money from west Omaha without asking. When the other school districts on their target list complained, OPS, to their everlasting shame, played the race card. OPS can't even integrate the schools it has now; just how engulfing their neighbors will help OPS bridge this race divide is unfathomable.

Now comes Mayor "Annex Douglas County" Fahey, claiming to be impartial, to the rescue. He is offering to mediate the dispute. Read about it here at WOWT news. Talk about getting the fox to guard the chicken house! Fahey has made his expansionist and agglomerative tendencies in the continuing annexation issue. Fahey's claim of impartiality is the "Big Lie" of the week.

Of course the shiftless bureaucrats at OPS think this is a great idea, as will their equally crazed Bellevue cronies. I doubt if the Millarders will get suckered.

The old feeder has no kids and doesn't care whether Fahey annexes all of Douglas County. But to take over towns and school districts to increase your tax base without regard for the self determination interests of those being taken over is just plain wrong. This is America, and local control of our schools and municipal governments is fundamental to our way of life. Centralization, consolidation, annexation and unification projects should never be undertaken lightly. The OPS Fahey plans make no room for free choice and self determination.

The tiny island of blue in the red state of Nebraska that is Omaha has no right to impose their blueness on their neighbors. Cure your own ills, OPS. Stop trying to rob your neighbors to finance your incompetence.

Still Developing: Omar al-Faruq, the CIA and al Qaeda

The Plains Feeder reads the Jakarta Post so you don't have to
This post is a continuation of an earlier post that I have been updating and reposting for several days. I don't know how to handle a slowly unfolding story in a blog, so bear with me. I think this story will become important, mostly on the basis of how it smells to me. Parts of the story we have so far just don't add up. Either something is going to pop, or Omar al-Faruq (or al-Farouk or al-Farouq or al-Farook or al-Faruk) will be murdered, and I don't mean martyred. If you haven't plodded your tedious way through the first post, this one won't make much sense.
---
Update: From Bangladesh comes Mac Haque at Mac's Savoury ChorChoriz! with a report that "a former State Intelligence Agency (BIN) director, told The Jakarta Post on Friday that he had strong grounds to suspect a hidden agenda behind the escape of al-Farouq". I note that the Jakarta Post has a habit of changing the URL's of some stories, so Mac's link won't work. Read the story here.

More: Mac Powell In the Bullpen suggested that the point of staging Omar's escape was to get to Osama bin Laden. If I was bin Laden, I wouldn't let Omar anywhere near me. Omar is, in my opinion, already dead.

France's new normal

Things have changed in France since the riots, (which are still 'winding down'). The Bored Moslem Youth or Euro Mujahedeen are forcing the French authorities to re-examine some of their traditional French standards. Most noteworthy of these is the standard which determines how many car burnings and business torchings per night is normal. Abe just down the road at Don't Let Me Stop You has all the ugly stats. I'm guessing the French will be making numerous adjustments to normal.

Update - and more: The rioting was caused by the polygamy practiced in the wicked banlieus. The French prefer the 'mistress' system pf philandering, but the Moslem polygamists just wouldn't assimilate.

Not on the point, but regular readers will appreciate this: the polygamy link above is from a self-styled "independent, non-partisan, and mostly liberal-to-moderate blog". Here is what this cat has to say about our self-styled 'Republican' Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel.
Hagel on Bush, Iraq, and the patriotism of dissent

He's a good man and, here, he's absolutely right: "Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) strongly criticized yesterday the White House's new line of attack against critics of its Iraq policy, saying that "the Bush administration must understand that each American has a right to question our policies in Iraq and should not be demonized for disagreeing with them."

More: "To question your government is not unpatriotic -- to not question your government is unpatriotic."

Who are the real patriots? I'm with Hagel.
Thanks again, Senator Chuck Hagel. Your folks here in Nebraska are getting fed up with your undermining the President. I guess this post started out to be about the French riots. Hagel acts French; he is a defeatist; he reminds me of the morose French Foreign Legionnaires I've known. They always were whining about Viet-Nam, too. Professional losers. All their celebrations were of infamous defeats and dreadful routs.

These nerve pills aren't working.

Is your school having a Tookie Teach-In?

From PRNewswire comes this unsettling story: "Schools and after school youth programs in California and across the nation are conducting "Teach Ins" in support of clemency for Stanley Tookie Williams." You should find out if any of the teachers at your kids' schools are having a Tookie teach-in.

Why? Because Tookie isn't just a convicted and 'appealed-out' murderer, but Tookie was a co-founder of the Crips street gang. These murderous 'gangsters' have corrupted and poisoned youth all across America, including the heartland. Gangs are sucking the life out our cities and moving into our smaller towns.

But, now that his appeals have run out, he has 'reformed'! And it would be wrong to kill a cat who is so cool. Now, the Intellectual Moonbat Left Hollywood Dopes and parasites-noir are protesting Tookie's upcoming, well-earned execution. These people want you to believe that gangs do good things too. They make the 'hood safe from brutal cops. Some 'ganstas' even write children's books and draw pictures. Talk about getting Mau-Maued.

What is happening at your kids' school? A Tookie teach-in?

BTW: The California Corrections folks at San Quentin, in an unusual public statement in support of an upcoming execution, say that Tookie has continued to run his gang business from his cell. The reformed Tookie is a sham. I guess these cats would know.

Update: Tookie's son is wanted for a rape he allegedly committed last Saturday in Fontana California. H/T to Playahata. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The Feeder also notes that California cops want no mercy for Tookie, either.
---
The old feeder has no kids but pays property taxes. I'd hate to think I was paying for a Tookie love-fest.

Wrong ideas mean jail time in Austria

While not known as a bastion of political correctness (or personal freedoms) Austria has made it known that harboring 'wrong thoughts' and espousing 'wrong ideas' can land you in jail. From Reuters: "Historian David Irving, known for his controversial views on World War Two, has been arrested in Austria on suspicion of denying the Holocaust".

Nobody doubts that Irving is an idiot, and doesn't deserve to be called an historian. He has already been discredited, shamed and even bankrupted by sticking to his impossible revisionist view that the Holocaust never really happened. But that isn't enough for the Austrians. Denying the holocaust in Austria can get you up to 10 years in the slammer.

I wonder what the penalty is for denying that the Earth revolves around the Sun?

New York Times to add new section: Corrections

The old gray lady of American journalism, the New York Times, has been fact-corrected by bloggers so often that their "Corrections Page" has grown large enough to merit a complete section of it's own. The new section, to be called For the Damn Record, will be aimed at stemming the huge volume of letters and e-mails the Times receives every day demanding corrections and apologies . "This will have less of a chilling effect on the creativeness of our writers than draconian editorial policies requiring them to be diligent and truthful.", said editor Bill Keller.

Every day, For the Damn Record will feature an In Depth Correction or Retraction lead story on the front page. The first issue will showcase the Times' coverage of the Valerie Plame leak. The Times now believes it was actually Dick Cheneywho unmasked the sexy, super secret 007'ess to prevent her covert husband from revealing how Bush lied about Iraq's WMD program. Previous lies about the matter will be corrected, and some scurrilous accusations will be retracted.

US broadcast infrastructure penetrated by al-Qaeda

More evidence has emerged that the US television bradcast system has been penetrated by Islamo-terrorists. The Feeder thinks this evidence points to al-Qaeda. The pupose is not to spy on the US. (The Chinese already have a lock on that, and may well provide their intel product to al-Qaeda, but that is another story.) The reasons for al-Qaeda's planting of agents sympathetic to the Islamic Jihad into the highest echelons of the US broadcast television entertainment industry can be stated in two words: propaganda and disinformation (P&D).

The key elements of this long in the works P&D operation directed at the American people are spelled out by Jay Tea in his Wizbang post this morning. Jay names NBC as a clear example of this subversion of our airwaves. Here are the basic tenets of the television entertainment P&D campaign against the US, according to Jay Tea:
Muslims are all innocent victims.
Illegal aliens are also all innocent victims.
The real dangers to society are Christians and the Minutemen.
Black is white. Up is down. Right Is Wrong.
Joseph Goebbels couldn't have done a better job if there had been European TV to subvert in the 1930's. We have known about the propaganda and disinformation in Hollywood for years. Since Dan Rather got caught at it, we have known that the television news departments have been penetrated by our enemies. Now it is time to unveil this enemy penetration of the television entertainment industry.
---
Update: Guest blogger Bryan Preston sitting in for Michelle Malkin singles out NBC TV's "Law and Order" show for smearing of that most American of institutions, the Minutemen. The enemy infiltration of the airwaves is becoming blatantly obvious.

Hugo Chávez not even a Crypto-Socialist

My foot is healing quite well, but I still depend on my friends to do my shopping, go to the Post Office and such. Yesterday's snow has given the old feeder a chance to read the week's worth of Wall Street Journals that was delivered on Saturday. The Journal is my favorite paper newspaper, and the only newspaper I pay to read. That doesn't mean much unless you know just how frugal (read: tight) the old feeder is. I like to read the Journal even when the news and the investment dope therein is stale. At least the opinion columns, reviews and the Weekend section are still good. The money isn't wasted.

To get to the point, one of the columns on the opinion page, Burning Down The House In FranceLand, by Daniel Henninger, he refers to: "Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez's crypto-socialist theories...". What is a crypto-socialist? What are crypto-socialist theories? Why would Mr. Henninger apply this term to any 'theories' Chávez might promote? Does this mean Chávez is a crypto-socialist? Maybe Mr. Henninger just wanted to use more syllables than the next journo calling Chávez a socialist, marxist or communist. Or perhaps the 'theories' Chávez spouts are so incomprehensible they are as if in a secret code.

Chávez isn't really any of these things. He isn't anything but an opportunist despot and a tinhorn one at that. Same old latin american dictator, but with different 'theories'. Chávez would spout crypto-scientology theories if he tought it would enrich or otherwise aggrandize him and his pals. Or if he thought Fidel Castro would like him just a little more. And that is just the trouble. Castro is a real communist, grinding Cuba down to nothing as he clings to his failed revolution. With oil money from crypto-idiot Chávez, the suffering can continue. Now how did I get from France burning to Cuba?

For a little Schadenfreude, pop over to Babalu and KillCastro, to help celebrate el barbudo's CIA diagnosis.

What to do about Willy Pete (Fun with White Phosphorus)

WP
Oh my gosh! The US is using White Phosphorus in the War on Terror. What a horror! Personally, I'd much prefer to get poked full of holes from tiny whizzing .223 projectiles or blown to bits by a thousand pound conventional with a JDAM kit than get burned to death by phosphorus. Yes sir, that phosphorus death is so much worse than any other kind, it has some folks wondering why the US military has used it since WWI. Perhaps because it works and is 'legal' to use?

Just in case you get hit with a WP round, or get too close to a WP smoker, (and still live), here's what FM 8-9: NATO Handbook on the Medical Aspects of NBC Defensive Operations AMedP-6(B): Part III - Chemical, Chapter 8: Smokes, Fuels, and Incendiary Materials says to do about it:
815. Self Aid.

a. If burning particles of phosphorus strike and stick to the clothing, contaminated clothing should be removed quickly before the phosphorus burns through to the skin.

b. If burning phosphorus strikes the skin, smother the flame with water, a wet cloth, or mud. Keep the phosphorus covered with the wet material to exclude air until the phosphorus particles can be removed.

c. Try to remove the phosphorus particles with a knife, bayonet, stick or other available object. It may be possible to remove some particles by rubbing with a wet cloth.
816. Medical Aid.

a. At the earliest opportunity all phosphorus should be removed from the skin and placed in a container so as to prevent further contamination and secondary injuries. The affected part should be bathed in a bicarbonate solution to neutralise phosphoric acid, which then allows removal of visible phosphorus. Remaining fragments will be observed in dark surroundings as luminescent spots.

b. Some nations recommend washing the skin with a 0.5-2.0% copper sulphate solution or a copper sulphate impregnated pad. Wounds may be rinsed with a 0.1%-0.2% copper sulphate solution, if available. Dark coloured deposits may be removed with forceps. Prevent prolonged contact of any copper sulphate preparations with the tissues by prompt, copious flushing with water or saline, as there is a definite danger of copper poisoning. It may be necessary to repeat the first aid measures to completely remove all phosphorus.

c. The burn should be debrided promptly, if the patient's condition will permit, to remove bits of phosphorus which might be absorbed later and possibly produce systemic poisoning. An ointment with an oily base should not be applied until it is certain that all phosphorus has been removed. Further treatment should be carried out as for thermal burn.

d. If the eyes are affected, treatment should initially be commenced by irrigation with a 1% solution of copper sulphate or sodium bicarbonate 5%, followed by repeated lavage using water or saline. The lids must be separated and a local anesthetic instilled to aid in the removal of all embedded particles. In eyes with severe ulceration once all particles have been removed, atropine should be instilled. The patient should be transferred to the care of an ophthalmologist as soon as possible.
Clearly, the US has gone too far. Employing weapons that injure or kill the enemy is just unthinkable, and Chemical Weapons even more so. Why, they make us as bad as Saddam. So say the "We must lose this unjust war so a Democrat can get elected" crowd. Viet-Nam Viet-Nam Viet-Nam: a good humiliating loss will do us some good. It sure helped then.

While we are talking Chemical Weapons, we must remember that every single explosive round, bomb and grenade used by the US military uses chemical explosives! And all of our inert rounds (bullets) are propelled by military chemicals. In fact America adopted Dow Chemical's slogan, "Better Killing Through Chemistry", when they bought their first batch of Napalm from Dow. Napalm is almost as bad as WP, but about the same bad as you get by putting Ivory Soap Flakes into the gasoline to make a Molotov Cocktail.

Nuts, all this deadly weapon crap is relative. Nobody obeys the 'rules of war' too closely if they want to win. Modern armies don't use poison gas on the battlefield because it isn't effective. Poison gas is used to wipe out non-combatants en-masse in situ. On Kurdish villages, for example. We don't use poison gas. Willy Pete is not a poison gas. It is an effective incendiary, and a somewhat less effective smoke. The US military should apply as much WP to as many terrorists as possible. Nobody deserves nasty phosphorus burns, but the terrorists have certainly got some coming. Give it to 'em! Burn one for me!

Muslim nut cases: Burger King gives them an inch

Don't think they won't take a mile, suckers. Just ask the French. From the Scotsman.com News: "Burger King recalls 'sacrilegious' desserts". The box lid looked like some sacred Arabic chicken scratch writing for their lame-ass god, Allah. Burger King will get even, however, by surreptitiously adding pork fat to all their entrees., or so the feeder has heard. Eat up, get sick and go to Muslim hell, rag heads. The rest of us are getting sick from kissing your scrofulous heathen butts.

Heaven forbid you should offend these creeps. They'll burn your car.

Developing: Omar al-Faruq was to spy on al Qaeda

Reposted: I expect something to break eventually.

Bagram Escapees?
Not Breaking News: al Qaeda big shot and international terror operative Omar Al-Faruq (al-Farouk, al-Farouq, al-Farook, al-Faruk, Aw-Fook and sometimes Mahmoud bin Ahmad Assegaf) escaped from US custody in Afghanistan last July and has been at large and making threats ever since. This nasty cat has been turned. Al-Faruq has most certainly been recruited by the US to penetrate al Qaeda and betray the top echelon of global Islamic terrorism. Why he turned is unimportant. The real question is: why was his cover here in the West so casually yanked? Why now? I smell a double-cross.
---
Update: Tad Brennan posts Escape or Evasion? at TPM Cafe. Tad's speculations miss the mark. He suspects US CIA spooks killed poor Omar. His agenda of blaming Bush administration policies for everything clouds his vision. The old feeder just wants to see Omar snuffed, and he doesn't care who does it.

Meanwhile, the alleged escapees have been seen mugging it on Arab TV recently. From the Pakistan Times:
The four escapees boasted about their breakout on a video broadcast Oct. 18 on Dubai-based television station Al-Arabiya, according to two editors at the station, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to talk to the media.
Radio Free Afghanistan has only this terse story. Nobody wants to"out" Omar for the duplicitous, double-crossing traitor that he is, because both sides want to believe he still belongs to them. The civil-service CIA is just no good at the humint business these days. It is as if the Post Office had set up a spy network.

Update: Outside the Beltway's James Joyner smells something fishy as well, saying, "This looks very, very bad on a whole number of levels. Either the U.S. military is unable to guard top al Qaeda lieutenants (although, granted, there seem to have been hundreds of them) or it is willing to allow them to escape to avoid testifying against accused abusers." So it is a cover up of something. Joyner has more blame: "not only do we let this clown escape but we don't let our ally, who turned him over to us in the first place, know about it so that they can prepare for his return and/or help recapture him? Amazing." We are not amazed.

Update: More "escape" fallout - The Indonesians aren't going to be handing captured terrorists over to the US again any time soon. (Kompas Online - Jakarta)

Background: From a Sept. 18, 2002 U.S. Newswire report quoted on a discussion board (Suite101 by 'Jen') "Officials in Kuwait's Ministry of Interior have stated that alleged Al-Qaeda terrorist Omar Al-Faruq is not a Kuwaiti citizen, despite media reports describing him as such..." Jen added: "and then to add more confusion al-Faruq's wife, Mira, is quoted in the Indonesian media saying that al-Faruq's an Indonesian."

UnSaid Theory: UnSaid thinks Omar didn't escape, but was tagged and released. "Might not be a bad idea to let him get away and have a tracker stick on him", UnSaid suggests. Like a chip implanted in his body? RFID tags? The old feeder thinks the odds that Omar is dead are getting better with every day that passes without an Omar sighting or verifiable new video.

Update: Guerrilla News Network also considers that al-Faruq is working for the CIA.

Update: Yet another mess of speculation, (e.g.: "According to one fugitive Taliban commander interviewed by a NEWSWEEK reporter last week, the four men were actually exchanged in secret for captured U.S. special-operations troops.") sprinkled with a few details , is found in Newsweek, via MSNBC.

More links and analysis: At Bliss Street Journal, the Unfrozen Caveman Linguist looks at the Great Escape from a different perspective.

Update: From Antara, the Indonesian News agency, comes this story datelined Jakarta and citing the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies
Umar Al Farouk who escaped from the US heavily guarded detention center in Afghanistan could be a foreign intellegence agent planted in al Qaidah network for Souetheast Asia, an observer said.

Suripto, founder of the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (Laspersi), made the remarks here on Tuesday to respond to reports on the Al Farouk`s escape and its implications on Indonesian security.

According to him, Al Farouk`s escape has strengthened his prediction and suspicion that the mysterious figure is an agent backed by the CIA.

"Only a person backed by a well-managed organization could escape the heavily guarded prison," Suripto, who is also member of the House of Representatives` Cmomission I on foreign and security affairs, said.

"It is not easy to be able to slip out of the prison. Of course, there is a well managed organization which has detailed information on the prison and the person involved in the escape."

Suripto said, he suspected that Al Farouk had received a special task from the controller to cause disturbance in Indonesia and the three months since July when the figure was widely reported to have escaped from the prison was enough to spread terror in regions like Poso and Ambon.
The plot thickens, and Umar/Omar's odds of seeing the New Year get much worse. Who needs this kind of press?

Update: Jakarta Post, has a story implicating a mysterious unnamed terrorist group in Faruq's escape.
Reports of the escape of Omar al-Farouq, a suspected al-Qaeda leader, from a U.S.-run detention facility in Afghanistan have created confusion and suspicion among some Muslim leaders here.

Zaenal Ma'arif, deputy speaker of the House of Representatives who hails from the Islamic-based Star Reform Party (PBR), was baffled as to how al-Farouq, who was captured in Indonesia in 2002 and subsequently handed over to the U.S. authorities, had escaped.

He suspected that "a certain group" with interests in Southeast Asia had arranged for the escape of al-Farouq in a bid to give power to terrorism in the region.

He declined to name the group.

"It is possible that there is a bigger scenario since Osama bin Laden is not that influential anymore," Zaenal said over the weekend, referring to the al-Qaeda terror network leader who remains at large.
If the CIA is behind all this confusion, they have either made a very ugly public mistake or turned rather suddenly effective. The old feeder inclines toward the 'mistake option', but we shall see. Or not.

Update: From China, Indonesian presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal during a discussion of the US embargo, said he was "optimistic there would be a restoration of normal military relations between the two countries." But then Dino remarked on the escape in Afghanistan, saying "the Indonesian mission in Afghanistan had inspected the jail in Baghram from where Farouq had escaped but 'we will explain it later.'" I wonder when 'later' will come and what his explanation will be.

Update: It is possible that the recent anti-terror successes in Indonesia are a consequence of Mr. al-Faruq's complicity with the CIA or are perhaps indicia of other, more obscure forms of al-Faruq's duplicityas may be still developing. My experience is that the Official Media in Jarkarts has absolutely no problem with disseminating lies, so...

Updated 11/15/05: The Indonesians are starting to think there is a secret plot to penetrate the Islamic terrorists' inner circle of leaders, and , lo, they were left out! This originally appeared in the Jakarta Post, but seems to have disappeared. Here is the same story reprinted by adnkronos in italy. Quoted in full here, in case it is also pulled:
akarta, 14 Nov. (AKI/Jakarta Post) - The escape of terrorist suspect Omar al-Farouq from the United States detention may be a ploy to track down most-wanted terror master Osama bin Laden, a former intelligence chief told The Jakarta Post. A.M. Hendropriyono, former State Intelligence Agency (BIN) director said he had strong grounds to suspect a hidden agenda behind the escape of al-Farouq, a Kuwait-born terrorist suspect who Indonesia handed over to the United States in September 2002, one month before the Bali blasts that killed 202 people.

"Following his escape, al-Farouq appeared in an interview with an Arabian TV station brandishing an automatic rifle. It is impossible that a terrorist group would trust and give him a gun after three years in US detention. It is possible that he was prepared by his users to conduct a special mission," Hendropriyono said.

"Second, it is quite strange that Washington remained silent about al-Farouq's escape. It can be assumed that US security authorities were informed of his escape from the prison in July, but until now, President George W. Bush has not explained it, at least not to the American public," he added.

Hendropriyono, who was responsible for al-Farouq's transfer to US custody, said it was very likely that al-Farouq had been brainwashed during his confinement at the Baghram maximum security detention centre in Afghanistan.

"Brainwashing does not take years, it can take just two days," he said.

Hendropriyono said it appeared that al-Farouq's brainwashing had been effective, as al-Farouq was cooperative and provided detailed information when two Indonesian police officer questioned him in Afghanistan following the hand-over. Al-Farouq had led the police to Muslim cleric Abu Bakar al-Bashir, who is serving his 30-month jail term for conspiracy in the 2002 Bali blasts.

He also said it was possible that the US was using al-Farouq to trace terrorist networks in the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and locate bin Laden, who is still at large following the September 11, 2001 attacks on the US.

The fact that Indonesia's president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has warned of possible strikes by al-Farouq, indicates that Indonesia was never informed of the apparent US plan, said Hendropriyono.

"But if he returns to Indonesia anyway, BIN and the police know all his contact persons and the accomplices he may look for in Bogor, Poso, Palu, Makassar and Ambon, five towns where he operated between 1999 and 2002," he said.

Asked about the public outrage toward him for handing al-Farouq over to the US three years ago, Hendropriyono said the Indonesian authorities had no legal basis to charge him for terrorism, because the country had not enacted an applicable law.

"BIN arrested him because he was one of the most-wanted persons in connection with the September 11 tragedy, and then deported him for immigration violations and identity card counterfeit. BIN was never instructed by the US. or other countries to arrest him.

"We nabbed him because he was dangerous, and if he had not been arrested, more people might have been killed in bomb attacks," he said.

Al-Farouq was arrested by intelligence agents in the Bogor Grand Mosque after BIN received a video recording showing him leading a bloody attack on a Christian village in Poso, Central Sulawesi.

Hendropriyono said al-Farouq had held five different passports and various fake Indonesian identity cards under different names but did not speak Indonesian.

The former intelligence chief expressed regret that one of al-Farouq's operatives who was later arrested, Seyam Reda, had escaped, and many members of al-Qaeda-related groups were still operating in Poso, where sectarian conflict left 1,000 dead between 2000 and 2001, and where earlier this month, three schoolgirls were beheaded by a masked gang in October and two others were shot dead in a separate incident.

Al-Farouq, Reda and several other al-Qaeda operatives were brought into the country by Parlindungan Siregar in 1999, Hendropriyono said. Parlindungan has been declared a suspect in the Madrid bombing in March last year.

(Aki/Jakarta Post)
The old feeder smells something putrefying under the skin of this 'escape' story. Just when or if this festering pustule will come to a head is still in doubt. I'll keep watching. And maybe squeezing. Pardon my metaphor.

Updated 11/16/05: Alberto Gonzales, US Attorney General, while on a tour of Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia and China, today said,
[T]he United States was concerned about the escape of Omar al-Faruq, one of al Qaeda‘s most senior global operatives, from an American military prison in Afghanistan in July.

"Obviously we would have preferred the escape not to have occurred," Gonzales told reporters after meeting Indonesia‘s police chief.
Thats Alberto's story, and he's sticking to it. No matter how it smells.

Leave my child alone?

Little Green Footballs points out an example of how the 'lets lose the war on terror because we deserve to lose it' crowd work to undermine our nation's security by denigrating military service. The old feeder didn't like the looks of the graphics on the Leave My Child Alone web site, which also features sob sister Cindy Sheehan, and made the happy scenario above out of their insulting and equally distorted depiction. I gotta get a part time job or something. Really.

More riots in France- le Jihad?

Toulouse
Disaffected young adults of the French Islamic welfare-bourgeois class continue to strike out at the French socialist planned and executed circumstances of their arguably wretched lives. There has been still more car burning in France. Could this be the face of the new, non throat-cutting, Jihad? Perhaps it is a french flavored Euro al-Qaeda, not like the middle eastern head chopping deperados, or the well fed British tube bombers.

Whatever you call 'em, they are still at it, in spite of what you don't hear from the MSM.

Paris was reportedly quieter, if you can call having 3,000 riot police in the Muslim 'hoods quiet. Toulouse and Lyon both saw more burning. The French cops are finally showing a little gumption, firing tear gas at the Islamo-hooligans (or social victims or oppressed minority youths or terrorists).

Omaha Mountain Lion Mania - even the cops are seeing them!

Ever-vigilant Omaha area blogger Michele at ~♥~My Kids, My Life, My Story~♥~ has the scoop on the mountain lions roaming and dying in her neighborhood. In her back yard. She just posted this comment:
At First I read the headline and thought Oh hear we go with the jokes...then I read the article and thought OH GREAT! I live off of 96th and Highway 370 in Sarpy County...

If it is a mother and her cubs then Nebraska will have the face the fact that the mountain lions are breeding here and are here to stay. [my bold-pf]
Michelle's comment included a link to this KETV story Three Mountain Lions Spotted Playing In Sarpy County. KMTV also has this: More Mountain Lions?
Just days after a dead mountain lion was found along Interstate 80 in Sarpy County, there have been more sightings. On Thursday, a man reported seeing three mountain lions near 174th Street and Highway 370 in Sarpy County. Early Friday morning, a Sarpy County Sheriff's deputy reported two mountain lions near 180th and Cornhusker Road. The Sheriff's Department says Nebraska Game and Parks found some feces and paw prints at the second site. Experts are analyzing both.
So what must Omaha folks do to face up to this fact,Michele? My girlfriend seems to think we can just shoo them away. It is already against the law to hunt them down. Nobody wants to exterminate the fascinating creatures. Perhaps it would be smart merely to extirpate them from town. Coexistence just doesn't seem like a good idea.

This part of America was once the habitat of black bears. Pioneers had their livestock killed and larders raided by bears. They worried about their kids. So the settlers actively and deliberately got rid of them. Black bears weren't exterminated, merely extirpated from the area. Must we face facts and try to get along with bears if they start to come around again?

The gazelle and wildebeest herds on the African plains co-exist with lions. You know the story: the young, the weak and the sick get killed and eaten. Some folks do 'coexist' with big carnivores. Fifty or more of them are killed in India every year by tigers. But is this what we want here?

So many questions. I'd better take another poll!

Don't Forget: Veterans' Day

Veterans' Day (formerly Armistice Day)
November 11, is the anniversary of the Armistice which was signed in the Forest of Compiegne by the Allies and the Germans in 1918, ending World War I, after four years of conflict.

At 5 A.M. on Monday, November 11, 1918 the Germans signed the Armistice, an order was issued for all firing to cease; so the hostilities of the First World War ended. This day began with the laying down of arms, blowing of whistles, impromptu parades, closing of places of business. All over the globe there were many demonstrations; no doubt the world has never before witnessed such rejoicing.

In November of 1919, President Woodrow Wilson issued his Armistice Day proclamation. The last paragraph set the tone for future observances: To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nation.

In 1927 Congress issued a resolution requesting President Calvin Coolidge to issue a proclamation calling upon officials to display the Flag of the United States on all government buildings on November 11, and inviting the people to observe the day in schools and churches...But it was not until 1938 that Congress passed a bill that each November 11 "shall be dedicated to the cause of world peace and ...hereafter celebrated and known as Armistice Day."

That same year President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a bill making the day a legal holiday in the District of Columbia. For sixteen years the United States formally observed Armistice Day, with impressive ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where the Chief Executive or his representative placed a wreath. In many other communities, the American Legion was in charge of the observance, which included parades and religious services. At 11 A.M. all traffic stopped, in tribute to the dead, then volleys were fired and taps sounded.

After World War II, there were many new veterans who had little or no association with World War I. The word, "armistice," means simply a truce; therefore as years passed, the significance of the name of this holiday changed. Leaders of Veterans' groups decided to try to correct this and make November 11 the time to honor all who had fought in various American wars, not just in World War I.

In Emporia, Kansas, on November 11, 1953, instead of an Armistice Day program, there was a Veterans' Day observance. Ed Rees, of Emporia, was so impressed that he introduced a bill into the House to change the name to Veterans' Day. After this passed, Mr. Rees wrote to all state governors and asked for their approval and cooperation in observing the changed holiday. The name was changed to Veterans' Day by Act of Congress on May 24, 1954. In October of that year, President Eisenhower called on all citizens to observe the day by remembering the sacrifices of all those who fought so gallantly, and through rededication to the task of promoting an enduring peace. The President referred to the change of name to Veterans' Day in honor of the servicemen of all America's wars.

French bloggers held after Paris riots

Abe, at Don't Let Me Stop You, has a number of posts presenting an in-depth explanation of the recent unpleasantness in France, its origins and causes. Abe's writing isn't clouded by the deep seated and long festering distaste for France and the French that colors, even poisons the work of the old feeder. But he should be careful what he says.

Being half French by marriage, as it were, Abe might fall under some sort of French quasi in rem jurisdiction, and the long arm of le Code civil might be able to reach him in Lincoln. The gendarmes are arresting French riot bloggers! Abe will be sorry he advised them to crack down!

le Beurger King Muslim -

Beurger King Muslim - Clichy-sous-Bois, France
Six Meat Buffet's post, Projecte Quel Dommage where bloggers can post their own “Sorry France!” pictures in the manner of the sorry assed Sorry Everybody project. One of the posts featured a blogger urging the French to cheer up because "at least they aren't opening a McDonald's in your town".Would a Muslim Burger King be insulting enough to set off a riot?
How about one right in Clichy-sous-Bois, where the rioting began? One featuring "halal bakon"? There is such a riot starter, pictured above and described at NovoPress. Pardon their French.

This is additional proof that Bush's unchecked globalist plans to ruin the whole world are the root cause of the burning unrest in France. I'd burn my town, too, if I was a French muslim who had to eat at Burger King, no matter how you spell it. If that isn't reason enough, Ryne McClaren has the lowdown on how "Bush's actions in Iraq" are to blame for the French riots.

Thank you for choosing Burger King and Salaam Aleikum!

Feedlot Poll: Senator Chuck Hagel's big mouth

The Plains Feeder has been waging a campaign to get senator Chuck Hagel to stop his constant back-biting and quibbling with the Bush Administration's policies. To my ear, he sounds more like a Democrat Bush Basher with every weekend "talking heads" appearance. Comparing Iraq to Viet Nam is the Hagelism that burns me up the most. But it doesn't stop there.

I know someone from the US Senate reads the Plains Feeder almost every weekday. These visits show up on Site Meter like this one from this morning:

I like to think it is Chuck, or at least one of his minions checking in, and that he will see the results of our poll. So look over in the sidebar on the right for the plains Feeder Poll, cast your vote, and let senator Hagel know what you think of his pesidential aspirations and his public attacks on Bush. Note that the questions are carefully framed to give absolutely accurate statistical results. There is no margin of error.

Previously sighted mountain lion killed in Omaha area

WOWT photo
A roadkill mountain lion was found along Interstate 80 just east of 144th Street, reports WOWT TV. It was a good sized one. Probably hit by a car. The folks who have been reporting mountain lions in their back yards and such are clearly vindicated. I still think the city folks view these creatures as welcome additions to our urban bio-diversity. The WOWT web site headline reads "Mountain Lion Dies". Poor kitty.
---
Update: Omaha blogger Michelle who saw the lion in her back yard got this news posted here before I did. Her comment to an earlier mountain lion sighting post affirms this was the same cat she saw in her back yard:
Behind my house , where I sighted this mountain lion, is all wooded area that is all trees and corn fields, (and a couple farm houses) all the way to Interstate 80 and 144th. I'm convinced this is the mountain lion I saw. Which is kind of scarey since I figured he was long gone by now. Only to find out tonight he was still back there.
Michelle wishes the big cat could have been caught and released. I'm just glad this one won't be dragging any little kids into the bushes. There may well be more mountain lions around. Where there's one...

Venezuelan Headline

The week Bush got whacked
Published in The Daily Journal a state controlled rag that is nothing more than a propaganda tool of tin-horn communist dictator and Castro stooge Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías, of Venezuela. I thought I was reading the New York Times or the Washington Post for a minute.

A boy named bin Laden

Little Osama
Reading the Sunday papers on Saturday yields this oriental puff-piece in the Bangkok Post Sunday edition: Future beckons for young bin Laden.
Acouple in Pattani who named their only son ``bin Laden'' after the Saudi-born fugitive say they hope he will grow up as ``smart'' as the man being hunted by the US in connection with the devastating attacks on New York and Washington on Sept 11, 2001. The boy, now four, was born on the day of the terror attacks which Osama bin Laden is accused of plotting.

Ibrohim Jae-rong, 43, a villager of Panarae district, said the district office refused to register his choice of name, and urged the family to switch to Nuruddin. But the boy is bin Laden to his family and neighbours, he said.

``The district officer tried to convince me the name was inappropriate as bin Laden was a terrorist,'' he said.

However, the rubber plantation owner said his family does not care about that. To them, the fugitive is a hero.

``To me, he's not a terrorist. He is the most powerful man,'' said Mr Ibrohim. He said he believed the older bin Laden was a good man who had devoted his life to fighting the US. ``In my opinion, America is not a good nation for it interferes with other countries. I share with other Muslims in the deep South a love and admiration for bin Laden,'' he said.
Little bin Laden's mother added that, "Before he was born, I dreamed of Allah. He gave me a big, beautiful necklace." She wants her only son to be a good man, she says. In your dreams, says I.

France torched by terrorists

The Yahoo! News headline: Rioting Spreads From Paris Across France is typical of today's hot news from Europe. Does anyone doubt that Islamic terrorists and their fellow travellers are behind this unpleasantness in France? Give the Jihaders an inch and they'll take a mile.
---
First we heard that Paris' heavily Muslim slums were burning. Then the fire spread to other parts of Paris. The news yesterday was that a few other French cities were on fire. Today, France is burning. Can the rest of Europe be far behind?

The appeasers and mollycoddlers of Islamo-fascists may now reap what they have sown. Toleration only goes so far. Lets see if the French will tolerate this new terror.

Psychic claims $25 million Saddam reward

Saddam being tortured in US custody
Click the picture to see what US CIA goons did to him
From Al-Bawaba: Psychic demands $25 million for finding Saddam:
A Brazilian psychic is demanding that the United States pay him $25 million as a reward for directing US troops to Saddam Hussein's exact hiding place in 2003.
---
Jucelino Nobrega Da Luz claims to have sent letters to the U.S. Government beginning in September 2001 with exact location of Saddam's hiding place, though he never received a reply from US authorities.
Jucelino, or 'Little Juice' as he is known here at the Feedlot, is serious, but people outside of Brazil are laughing. If Jucelino can see the future, he must already know he will get the reward money. Otherwise, why would he bother to sue?

Feedlot Expedient Medicine II

The Walking Cast
Regular readers will recall that the old feeder dropped a steel grease gun on his left instep a couple of weeks ago. Because field expedient medicine and home remedies have always appealed to my deep current of miserliness, I opted to treat the apparently fractured metatarsal(s) with a feedlot expedient cast of newspaper and tape.

But more study of the matter suggested that the more immobilizing casts have fallen from favor among real doctors. Not wanting to be thought of as out of the medical mainstream, I improvised a 'walking cast' of the sort deemed suitable in the current (read: not yet discredited) literature. It is pictured above. The Air Force's medical self-help web site suggested avoiding a cast altogether, except when the foot is too painful. My foot hurts.
---
The reader might note that, in the Air Force guide linked above almost all of the suggested solutions involve resorting to home treatment:
You have to give them credit for trying to save the taxpayers a buck. No more expensive malingering at sick call, by golly. You fix your foot yourself and report for duty, soldier!

Paris burns, nobody cares

Riot Cops Flee Results of French Authority Vacuum
The New York Times says the presence of an Authority Vacuum is what is making French cats riot and burn their towns. They haven't blamed Bush yet, so I haven't bothered to check and see if the Times is lying.

I can't believe I'm updating this post, but if you have come this far you should see the dialogue Carnal Reason has excerpted from Samizdata. I'm beginning to see the entertainment value here.

What? No Alito filibuster?

Nebraskans feel certain that our wannabe maverick Senator Hagel will support judge Alito's confirmation. Ben Nelson, the Democrat that Nebraskans love as only a mother can love an ugly baby, will vote reasonably. Ben is nothing if he isn't reasonable. Liberals hate him like poison for this. Echidne of the Snakes has this bit of liberal Ben-bashing: No Filibuster for Scalito?
Ben Nelson thinks Alito is just a dandy guy. Nelson is one of those so-called moderate Democrats (wingnuts-on-a-diet). He is part of the 'Gang of Fourteen', the people in the middle who decide if a filibuster would work or not. Of course, Nelson will never need to worry about whether he will need an abortion or whether he will be regarded as property of his wife.
Echidne goes on to confide that she does, "think that the Democratic base has been ignored for far too long, and if we don't get some attention soon we might just not turn up to vote in 2006." We can only hope.

Even though Senator Hagel will vote for Alito's ascension to the Supreme Court, he is still bashing the President and trashing our troops' successes in the war; assuming increasingly moderate positions. (He wants to be President, heh heh.)

I just heard Hagel quoted on the radio news a few minutes ago. He was comparing Bush's MSM propaganda poll numbers to those of Richard Nixon during Watergate. Of course, repeats his assertion that we are losing the Viet-Nam Iraq war. KFAB also played a clip of him telling the President, in so many blunt words, to fire Karl Rove. How incredibly bizarre!

I am getting very weary of Hagel's kicking the President every time he thinks he sees an opening. No sense getting all hot under the collar about it. We've known too long that Senator Hagel was a fly in our "Majority in the Senate" ointment.
---
Late Update: having taken the day off yesterday and loafed shamelessly today, I discover that fireball political Plains Blogger Ryne McClaren has the skinny on our Nebraska Senators' ever moderate positions on Alito, filibusters, defections and the Gang of 14.

Sam Alito's nomination taken seriously

Check out Ryne McClaren's thorough coverage of Sam Alito's nomination to the Supreme Court. Ryne is a real political junkie, at his best when he's on fire.

The real Dubya is back

I only read one cat blog regularly, but I have to tell you, felines can be very deep. Really take a few minutes to dig into Notes from Ferdy the Conservative Cat today. Don't let the title, Seeking a Decision by Al-Qaeda in Wilson v. Alito, confuse you. It is about President Bush.
The George W. Bush who nominated Samuel Alito is unconcerned about his critics across the aisle and committed to his conservative base. The real Dubya is back, and he's not slinking around and hiding any more.
I always liked the real Dubya.
---
More about Sam Alito, Jr.: Now the big worry is that he is Catholic. This fact has triggered a Barking Moonbat Warning. Not that there is anything wrong with being a nice Catholic boy, of course. But the thought is that there are enough justices who bend their knee to the Beast in Rome on the Supreme Court already. The Pope would have a majority on the court! ¡Que horor!
---
Update: Let me get this straight. If he is Catholic, then he can't be Jewish, can he?

Mackiel and Fahey: The Empire Strikes Again-

Omaha Mayor Fahey
Plains Feeder's hit counter tells me people are still interested in the progress of the unholy alliance between Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey and Omaha Public Schools Superintendant John Mackiel. As the Feeder has reported, these two are plotting to enlarge the influence of their little "Island of Blue" in the otherwise Red State of Nebraska.

The Fahey troops are wont to gobble up neighboring towns, engulfing them by force into Greater Omaha by annexation. Mackiel's minions in the bloated Public School bureaucracy and his secret agents in the Nebraska Education Association work to grab up all the schools in Greater Omaha by surprise and legalistic subterfuge, thus aiding Fahey by providing an indoctrinated youth base. Both factions lust for the tax money they can smell in the West.

Josh Allen, a fearless member of the underground, has a great new report from behind the lines. Read his latest communique here: The M-F Empire At It Again. Josh tkes great risks, posing as a Democrat school teacher, while ratting out his colleagues in his blog. Read it now, before he becomes another desaparecido.

Thanks to Abe at Don't Let Me Stop You, for the Mackiel-Fahey slogan.

Update: the Nebraska Citizen is a new blog covering Nebraska electoral politics.

The lowdown on Sam Alito

So far most analysis of President Bush's nomination of Sam Alito to replace Sandra Day O'Connor as an Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court has been pretty sketchy. Many threats and counter threats; little substance.

The best discussion I've seen comes from Madison, Wisconsin law professor Ann Althouse. Instapundit this morning tips us to a fine piece by Ann in the New York Times, Separated at the Bench. She reminds the Democrat Bush haters calling for Armageddon that their 'turn in the barrel' will come one day. Ann has more blog-like thoughts on Alito's appointment on her own blog, Althouse. Here you will find more specific thoughts from Ann on Alito's record, his stated viewpoints and even whether or not Judge Alito is Jewish.

One funny story making the news regarding Samuel Alito this morning is truly rich: his own mom outs his stand against abortion. From the AP: "'Of course he's against abortion,' his 90-year-old mother Rose told reporters at her home in Hamilton, N.J."

I wonder how long it will take the disloyal opposition to make something of the fact that Judge Alito's mother is 90 years old. I can hear them howling now: "He'll taint the bench for the next 40 years! Alito will live to be 100; he's got the genes!"

All the old feeder can say to that is Cent'anni, Justice Alito!
---
Update: Jeff at Alphecca has a tremendous reason to call your Senators and tell them you want Alito confirmed forthwith: "The guy finds no right of the government under the interstate commerce clause to criminalize the possession or transfer of a machine gun." Rat a tat tat! Full auto is where its at!
