Wesley Clark: Barack Obama's military gravitas

Bill Clinton's Perfumed Prince
From the Confederate Yankee:
The saddest thing about Barack Obama's available military expertise is that though he has Wes Clark in his corner, the only person he knows with the experience of getting a bomb on target is Bill Ayers.
I saw it first at Blackfive.
---
Actually, General Clark was able to hit the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade with a bomb, but later claimed it was a mistake.

Barack Obama the Chameleon Patriot

Change!
Barack is giving his big "I'm a real patriot" speech today. From the Washington Wire: Obama to Get Patriotic in Independence:
Barack Obama will be wearing his patriotism on his sleeve … and his jacket lapel today. The Democrat is expected to deliver a major speech addressing the issue of patriotism in Independence, Mo.

The speech comes as Obama tries to squelch criticism that he and his wife, Michelle, are unpatriotic. Last week the campaign launched its first TV ad touting the candidate’s “heartland values.” The ad will air in several Republican states.
The man isn't just a cold blooded political reptile, he is a chameleon. What next? Yankee Doodle Barry?
---
Here's a quote from his speech: "Patriotism is supporting your country all the time." Not only has Barack Obama failed miserably on this count, but he lifted the phrase from Mark Twain: “Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.” I hate it when foreigners quote Mark Twain.
---
Heartland Notebook: "He [Barack Obama]sees no need to engage in silly ritualistic trappings like the gesture of placing his hand over his heart during the National Anthem or revering the flag; after all, what do those things have to do with creating Utopia?"

Well, maybe Barry can be patriotic on or near the Fourth of July, IF it helps him get elected, SO he can then force Utopia upon us rubes and hicks that feel patriotic all day every day.
---
I'm going to out to the shed where there's no TV or radio and cling to my Bible and guns.

Zodiacal Musings

Leo
I'm no more of an astrologer than Al Gore is a climatologist but I'm going to borrow some horoscopic symbols to take an offbeat look at the election.

Now that Hillary has been sidelined we can forget about a Scorpio president. You don't have to believe in astrology to believe in Scorpio's. Just ask around. There's enough evidence available at November birthday parties to make one take notice. President Bush, who has more sense than to listen to astrological advice or predictions, nevertheless married a Scorpio, made another (Condi) his secretary of state, and tried to get another (John Bolton) in the U.N. Scorpio's can be dynamically powerful which makes them greatly admired by some and feared by others as untrustworthy demagogues. Scorpio's can lead, e.g. Teddy Roosevelt and George Patton. And they can scare us and worry us to no end, e.g. Charles Manson and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

John McCain, unfortunately, is a Virgo. So am I. The problem is that almost none of us are natural-born leaders, no matter that we may possess a multitude of other talents. Lyndon Johnson comes to mind. Those who are well known are rarely admired to any degree. George Wallace, Huey Long and Yasser Arafat. Maybe Virgo should be called the sign of the Maverick. Though I'd hate to see it happen John McCain would do better as Hillary's vice-president given their rapport. The reason I'd hate to see it is that I think they would be a formidable team. It wouldn't work, though, if she was his vice-prez. If nothing else Bill, who's every bit a Leo, would see that it didn't work and the results wouldn't bode well for old John.

In the world of sun signs the leader of the pack is generally Leo. Barack Obama is a Leo. I'd feel good about that if I liked him. The problem is that I see how bad lefty Leo's can be. Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez. Our own Bill Clinton, even Monica Lewinsky, George Soros and lesser annoyances like Sean Penn and Martin Sheen. When a lion gets some power they usually let the world know about it, well beyond the boundaries of whatever office they hold.

What hurts is that we had our chance to put a big cat on the throne and we lost it. Fred Thompson is a wise old lion, one who doesn't roar without a good reason. And he's definitely not a circus lion who's willing to jump through hoops to get elected, such as the one we seem destined to put in the White House. I can hardly blame Fred for not wanting the job badly enough that he would perform tricks for the camera. He does quite well in his own corner of the jungle and seems happy enough - possibly even relieved - to be campaigning for McCain but I wish it was the other way around.

It seems that a lot of us don't want an Obama presidency and yet we hate the thought of voting for the 'maverick'. The latest Gallup poll shows them running pretty close. Forget about astrology. I'm wondering if enough of us are convinced that it's worth our efforts to put McCain in the White House.

Wind Damage at the Feedlot

Wind starts to blow - click for video
A nasty storm with winds I estimate at about 90 mph came up very suddenly yesterday afternoon. It only lasted a few minutes, but severely damaged crops, trees, power lines, and some buildings in a swath extending from Fremont, Nebraska, through Omaha and on into Iowa. The storm killed two young folks in Council Bluffs just across the Missouri River from Omaha. A tree crushed the car they were using to get out of the wind driven rain.

The old feeder was tending his garden yesterday when the sirens in nearby towns went off. There was a dark cloud off to the west, but it looked like just an ordinary summer thunderstorm. Seeing no danger, I kept pulling weeds, figuring that whoever has their finger on the storm siren button was jumpy after a tornado tore through Omaha earlier this month with no sirens sounding beforehand.

I should have paid attention. The wind, rain and small hail sneaked up behind me. By the time I got to the house I was as wet as if I'd fallen into a lake. I saw some shingles, plywood and big lengths of irrigation pipe flying through the air. My camera was by the front door because I had planned to take a picture of the corn here to prove to my friends in Northwest Iowa that it was almost 6 feet tall already. I went out and snapped the picture above, and captured this short video clip of the wind beating up on the corn. As soon as I got back inside, the wind got worse and the electricity went off.

Today, I took these photos:

The corn this morning - quite a bit of it is down
I haven't been out to look at other fields, but I heard a report on the radio of corn being down in between Valley and Omaha. This sort of damage is depressing. Corn is pretty tough, and will often stand up again after the wind lays it down. It can still produce if the stalks break above ears that have already set. But it won't make anything but silage when the stalks are snapped off near the ground like these:

---
Update: From Fox 42 News:
Roughly 100,000 acres of farmland in Douglas, Saunders and Dodge counties was either shredded or flattened.

It was going to be a great year for farmers north of Elkhorn. Instead, the storm leveled cornfields, corn that was 6 feet tall.
The longer term economic effects of this crop damage will be worse than the downed trees and power outages in town. Nebraskans tend to forget that most of the wealth of our state grows out of the ground.

Some of this land can be replanted to soybeans, and some of the damage is covered by insurance. It costs money to replant, and insurance payouts aren't manna from heaven. The storm's cost to agriculture can't be made to go away.

Firearm carry permits: out the window with Heller

Recycled Poster
LaShawn Barber seems happy to report that the Supreme Court's decision in the Heller case, affirming that the "right to keep and bear arms" is a fundamental personal right. She has had a flashing light on her post. Then why does LaShawn go on to state that the poor, infringed upon until this day, denizens of DC, "now need to push for concealed carry laws"? To my ear, this sounds idiotic. They don't need permits. No American citizen needs a permit.

Today's decision means that going armed isn't a privilege, like driving a car on the public roads. Its a fundamental right. You don't need any kind of permit to exercise your right to self defense. The majority opinion gives using a firearm to effect self-defense in the home as an example, but neither the 2nd Amendment nor today's decision limit self defense to the home.

The Second Amendment reads, in pertinent part, "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" Its clear to me that to allow prior restraint of a fundamental right, as with a permit system, is unconstitutional. The Second Amendment rights now enjoy the same status as the right to free speech. No prior restraint without a truly compelling state interest.
---
I don't need a permit to publish my ideas and views here. I don't need one to provide for my self-defense by bearing arms.
---
Update: Commenter Trish at LaShawn Barber's blog reminds us that neither the US Constitution nor the Heller decision grant us the right to keep and bear arms. Our fundamental, inalienable rights come from God, our Constitution only enshrines them.
---
Rubbing it in:

I want to apply for a permit to exercise my rights.
The more I think about it, the more it pisses me off that no one sees this important point. Here are a few more reasons to burn your gun purchase and carry permits, rescind your gun registration, and to disband The "F" part of the BATF.
  1. It is already illegal for bad people to have guns, in much the same way as it is illegal for bad people to vote.
  2. It is already illegal for otherwise good people to do bad things with guns. Murder and armed robbery, for example, are crimes no matter what the weapon and no matter who does it. Gun licensing and registration schemes do nothing to change this fact.
  3. Lack of a permit or license never stopped one single person that used a gun to do wrong from doing so.
  4. All license schemes, permit systems and registration requirements are subject to political and personal abuses. The elites always have guns or hired gunmen. So-called "Saturday Night Special" bans were all designed to disarm poor folks; they certainly weren't consumer protection laws.
  5. If wussies ever take over the government in toto, your registration or license will help the government to confiscate your weapons. You won't be able to resist tyrants.
  6. Lack of a license or permit system is no impediment to 'enhanced sentencing' for gun criminals.
Should I take the dearth of comments on this post to mean you all agree with me? Or do you think I'm talking out of my rectum on this issue? If I don't get some thoughtful feedback here, I'll bump this annoying post to the top and leave it there.
---
If you are dead set on involving a bureaucracy with our Second Amendment rights, why don't you lobby for un-permits? Insane cats, known criminals, etc. could be issued papers forbidding them from having or carrying arms. Like pedophiles are forbidden from living near playgrounds and malicious hackers from having computers.

Of course, people being what they are, sooner or later the un-permit system would be corrupted. Not in favor with some judge? You get an un-permit. Can't pay off a crooked official? You get an un-permit.

If you think it foolish of me not to trust my fellows or any government made up of my fellows very much, remind yourself of the raison d'être for the Second Amendment. It wasn't to secure the rights of duck hunters and target shooters.
--
Still think throwing out permits is a bad reading of our constitution? Well, what do you think about reading it to allow babies to be pulled from their mother's wombs and killed? Which reading is more far-fetched? Which reading would cause more damage?
---
Updated: 20 August 2008

You can't be required to get a permit or take a test to give a speech nor to write and publish books, broadsides or pamphlets. How many folks have been slaughtered as a result of these unfettered words? No weapon has ever started a war, a feud or even a duel by itself. Wars, feuds and fights are almost invariably started with words, spoken either in the heat of passion or coldly conceived, instigated and fomented by speeches, books, and pamphlets. Tens of millions of people died in the last century largely because of two books and a pamphlet: Mein Kampf, Das Kapital and the Communist Manifesto. There are countless examples from history.

I know the drill: you need to get a permit to shout your ideas through a bullhorn, for example. Also: you need a permit to demonstrate on the public streets, that only makes sense. The bullhorn law and the parade permit law are only on the books because some folks thought it would force otherwise irresponsible cats to be responsible. Like all laws, it is pure 'feel good'. I have to wonder how the "Boston Tea Party" would have turned out if the colonists had applied for a permit.

The truth is, there is no effective 'prior restraint' to carrying weapons with impunity. Them as will do it, will do it, regardless of any sensible laws or well intentioned 'lines' drawn. Its this truth that makes grown men and women afraid of life itself, and in that fear, willing to surrender their liberties to laws and states in the unfulfillable hope that government can make men good.

I'm a realist. We were only one vote away from having the shrine of the Bill of Rights torn down yesterday. If they had voted the other way, it wouldn't have made one iota of difference to my understanding of my rights and liberties. I don't need a shrine, either. I'm a free man first and foremost. I'll stay that way no matter what.

Buy a firearm, learn to use it, keep it with you

Do it for yourself - do it for your friends
Be free. Be safe. Go armed. It has been in our Constitution all along! Now, the US Supreme Court has finally ruled that the Second Amendment means what it says.

Only an armed populace is a free populace. Everyone else lives in one degree of slavery or another.
---
The "But" monkeys can't be far behind. "OK, ok, so the right to keep and bear arms is a personal one, BUT that doesn't mean you can -fill in the blank- ." All rights come with responsibilities, the anti-gunners will try to confuse these responsibilities with a license to infringe.

Gun control advocates won't waste any time trying to co-opt this landmark decision. Barack Obama is already trying to fit this square peg into one of his round holes. Will the New Messiah now 'cling to his guns' in bitterness? Its a safe bet.
---
Don't fire in a crowded theater?
---
Further reflection: Don't forget that the Heller decision was 5-4 split on whether the constitution means what it says or not. As the Gateway pundit puts it: America stands One Justice Away From LaLaLand. Think about this fact before you fool yourself into thinking that the US would be able to recover quickly from an Obama presidency.

Heller 2nd Amendment SCOTUS decision reactions

Oh my God! Poor folks will have guns!
Its raining cats and dogs at the feedlot. With outdoor plans on hold, I'm going to link some blog and news reactions to this morning's Supreme Court decision in the Heller case. If you want to have your blog linked here or know of a blog post that ought to be here, please leave links in the comments or e-mail them to the old feeder. I'll check them out and link them here. My reaction:
The “But” monkeys are coming out of their trees. Barack Obama has been spotted clinging to a gun. Infringements will be redefined as reasonable restrictions.

“You can’t fire in a crowded theater”

An armed populace frightens tyrants more than anything else. Watch the ones that try to minimize or co-opt this decision; they would be tyrants if they could.

Blog Reactions to the Heller Decision:
This is more fun than trying to work in the mud. Laugh at weeping gun grabbers. Watch Skeet Surfing Safari (HT: Michelle Malkin)

Is Barack Obama A Marxist Mole?

Manchurian Candidate?
Canada Free Press: Is Barack Obama A Marxist Mole?:
In his biography of Barack Obama, David Mendell writes about Obama’s life as a “secret smoker” and how he “went to great lengths to conceal the habit.” But what about Obama’s secret political life? It turns out that Obama’s childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was a communist.

In his books, Obama admits attending “socialist conferences” and coming into contact with Marxist literature. But he ridicules the charge of being a “hard-core academic Marxist,” which was made by his colorful and outspoken 2004 U.S. Senate opponent, Republican Alan Keyes.
I'm inclined to believe Mr. Keyes. There is more to come about Obama's Marxist roots as well as his plans for America. His positions, policies and plans have remained mysterious and ephemeral to date. I don't think Barack's failure to state his platform clearly isn't a mistake.

Hope and change
can mean anything you want. He's counting on this indefinable quality to work for him better than deliberate obfuscation.

Omaha's 'Bob Kerrey' Footbridge

Opening in November
The Omaha City Council voted today to spend almost a million taxpayer dollars to survey the land on the Nebraska side of our pork-barrel pedestrian bridge for an art display and much-needed fountain. This is the bridge that our former Senator Bob Kerrey thought would be a smart way to spend 17 million federal tax dollars. At the time, folks said, "who needs a footbridge across the Missouri River?" But sharper minds prevailed. Minds that reasoned, "If we don't take the money, some other city will get it."

The Plains Feeder thought it was a bad idea at 17 million coconuts. Over the years, the price of the weird looking bridge has gone up and up while the design has gotten fruitier and cheesier. Nobody can get an honest answer as to what this useless as teats on a boar bridge has cost Nebraskans up to now. Apparently the squandering isn't over. All those other prices we were quoted didn't include anything at the end of the bridge.

The costly footbridge is slated to open this November. The weather should be just perfect then for a long walk in the wind over the icy river. And where will you be after your long, freezing hike? Iowa. Even the suicides won't want to walk that far to jump. Maybe Nebraskans who have hocked their cars in Iowa to cover their Council Bluffs casino losses will use it to walk home. Omaha, who wouldn't want to be a part of it?

Thank you, Bob Kerrey. Thank you, wise ones of the Omaha City Council. The footbridge to nowhere is truly the gift that keeps on giving.
---
Just thought of another use for the new footbridge. Omaha taxpayers rendered destitute by their state and city taxes can leave it all behind and walk to Council Bluffs, where gamblers from Nebraska voluntarily pay a big chunk of the taxes.

David Koebele kiddie sex update

David Koebele in Kuwait
It has been almost a year since the Plains Feeder first reported David Koebele's arrest in a child sex sting in Iowa. The Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier reported last weekend that he has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of "attempted enticement of a minor and interstate travel with intent to commit sexual activity with a minor." I don't have any new details that aren't in the Courier story.

Koebele is an Airman with the 55th Security Forces Squadron here at Offutt AFB. The "Hometown Hero" article I mentioned in last year's PF post about David Koebele has, understandably, disappeared.
---
Here is one for the books: The case against 32-year-old Jonathan Johnson of Omaha is pretty clear: he admits molesting several area kids. The most disgusting aspect of Mr. Johnson's confession is his attitude that having sex with kids is only wrong "because of what's happening to all of our lives now. I don't know right now why it's wrong, that's what's wrong with me. I thought everybody loved me.” Watch the video only if you have a strong stomach.

Senator Ben Nelson becomes Obamanized

Ben Nelson - running on hope
Senator Ben Nelson, a prisoner of his Democratness, has made an effort to join the chorus of Obama believers. Somehow, Barack's airy phrases seem to fall pretty flat coming from Nebraska's most Republican-like Senator. Here are the highlights condensed from his speech at Midland Lutheran College this past weekend:
Change is the word of the day and the word of the future. Change is what all of us are looking for in Washington. Our party is changing. We want progress. We want good government. Everyone is upset about gasoline prices.
He tried to warm the audience with a couple of jokes. Like this one: "Washington is being impacted by global warming. Just the other day, a chunk of ice fell off Vice President Dick Cheney." LOL! Those Democrats just slay me!
---
Seriously, Senator Nelson is charging ahead with his own plans for America's future. The Street Sweeper at Leavenworth Street blog reveals Ben's plans for a National Energy Commission and "proposing a day, possibly in July, to commemorate America's independence from the hated British."

Lisbon Treaty and the Irish vote

God bless the Irish. The Times of Malta notes that:
[O]f the 27 countries in the European Union only one has to abide by a provision in its Constitution of holding a referendum on matters which may affect its citizens' way of life. This is why the people of Ireland voted recently in a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty - and rejected it.

The other 26 countries, including Malta, opted for ratification by their parliament and basically ignored their people's views on the Lisbon Treaty.
Parliaments and Congresses that think they know what is best for the poor, benighted common folks should be given the boot. Read it and weep, one-worlders. The comments are interesting as well.
---
Note that the one-worlders aren't folding their tents just yet. Quite the opposite. All the elitists are scrambling to undo this democratic result.

Ask Aunt Latifa

Ann Landers - haram advice
Aunt Latifa writes an advice column for Muslims. Remember the advice column by the late Ann Landers? I'm sure Ann's advice wasn't much use to Mohammedans, since Ann was Jewish. Aunt Latifa is a Mohammedan woman, and provides advice on life and love in the same style. It seems to me, however, that her columns will get any Moslem girl that follows her advice killed. For example, Aunt Latifa doesn't condemn pre-marital sex for Mohammedan girls:
It is normal to have a sexual relation at your age, and it is even utterly beautiful to have sex with the person you love. It is the ultimate expression of your mutual love and as your boyfriend is good of heart and really serious with you, there is no problem in that relationship.
---
Don't throw your life away for any religion, be sure that a true God stands behind well-intentioned and warmhearted humans. Don't let the useless fear of imaginary hell spoil your life, because it is the only one you've got. So live your life in happines (sic) and love. Love is a present from God, don't throw that away, use it as it should be used.

All this will shock you, but I am telling this for your own good. Sweep the dark sides of medieval imagination away and open your mind and heart for freedom and happines (sic). Do count on your boyfriend to help you in this and untie dependance (sic) on blind relatives and a religion that think that your life belongs to a revengeful and cruel god that doesn't even allow love and peace between all of his human creatures.
Auntie forgets to mention how your dad and your brothers will murder you for following this advice. Mom will probably help them and they will all wash the blood off their hands by calling it an honor killing. These despicable murders among Mohammedans have always been popular in traditional Moslem nations; now the practice is spreading and increasing, even in officially secular Turkey. Gateway Pundit has also picked up the story from Turkey.

It won't be long before PC countries like Canada, the UK and some European states make accommodations for this disgusting aspect of Mohammedanism and its medieval Sharia laws. First they attack common western institutions, like free speech, then they ask for special treatment, like public foot-washes. Then, of course, we must adopt their crappy Sharia and finally, we must convert to Islam or they will kill us.

Convert or die...
No more apologies. No more appeasement. Don't bother to ask Auntie. Its time for a Crusade. Just my opinion.
---
Commenter Ellen Sheeley calls these murders dishonor killings. The label is more accurate than to call them honor killings, any way you look at it.

Moving Wall in Elkhorn, Nebraska

Anti-War Hackers?
The Moving Wall, a traveling replica of the US Viet-Nam War Memorial, is in the neighborhood through this weekend. Stop by and honor the tens of thousands of men and women who gave their lives trying to keep communism from destroying Southeast Asia. Here is a map indicating where the display is set up.
---
The link to The Wall USA above indicates the site has been hacked. Who would do such a thing? I'm guessing it isn't any of America's foreign enemies, but home-grown traitors who did it. Here is the cached version, if the real site is still down.

Bush's Iraq "War for Oil" fails: US forced to drill at home

Drill America: do it for the Caribou
Even George Bush now thinks the US policy of forbearance from drilling for oil in our own back yards should end. Seems that increasing the supply might just help ease the upward pressures on the price of oil. I saw only the Democrat reaction to the jawboning he gave the Congress today. Something about 'destroying America's most pristine land'. Read more about these developments at Gateway Pundit.

I can see why the Gulf Coast cats are nervous. I'm selfish about some things, especially when close to home, but I see no such NIMBY problem with drilling the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve.

How many Americans will ever even see this wretched piece of pristine nastiness. Its far away, hardly in anyone's back yard. To see it, you need to make a giant, expensive carbon footprint just getting there and back. Americans that can barely afford to drive to work stand no chance of visiting the ANWR even once in a lifetime. You would have to pay me to go there.

Only obsessed scientists working on grants hang out there now. Its deadly cold in winter, and mosquito-infested in summer. The sorry caribou there lose blood by the pint to the voracious insects, whose attacks drive them to distraction. In winter, the miserable beasts must eat lichens off the frozen rocks. Any change in their horrible existence would be an improvement.

Where's the harm? I'm for drilling the ANWR and anywhere else in the US where the inhabitants aren't selfish wussies or communist dupes bent on destroying America.
---
Sad thing is, Bush could have forced this issue long ago by ordering the drilling bans lifted by executive order. Instead, he puts the cart before the horse. I guess nobody is perfect.
---
Barack Obama, still on the Marxist plantation, feeds us the Big Lie: it isn't a long-term solution. What a slave the man is to leftist doctrine.

That cinches it. Everything bad is caused by Global Warming.

Dr. Chalko in his Chakra Shirt
According to the AP and published by CBS, earthquakes are five times worse than they were 20 years ago because of Global Warming. What next? Global Warming will cause the Earth to explode? Salmonella? The study they cite to support this spurious thesis was done by none other than Dr. Tom Chalko the bioresonance fruit, pictured above.

The Associated Press calls this nut case a scientist. I guess if you can accept Al Gore as a GW science expert, almost anyone qualifies. I want to laugh, but...
---
A few blog reactions from both sides of the GW divide:
Not many of these cats are believers once they see that Dr. Chalko is a Wacko. I don't expect the French to come around and admit that they have been had. They still think they are a World Power.

Burn some gas: Norfolk Comedy Festival

Johnny Carson with an owl
The Norfolk, Nebraska Great American Comedy Festival is happening right now just a few country miles from Omaha. If you like comedy acts, plan a trip to the festival before it winds up on the 22nd.

You may know that Norfolk (pronounced nor-fork) claims to be the late great Johnny Carson's home town. The Tonight Show star has been kind to his hometown and to the University of Nebraska.

If you are sick of sitting at home wondering if the price of gasoline will ever return to "affordable", consider copping a few laughs in nearby Norfolk. Do it before the Solons of the Nebraska Unicameral impose their 3¢ per gallon tax increase on July 1st.

Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel: can't rule out any possibility

What an embarrassment to Nebraska
Including his own political demise. I heard Steve Brown on KFAB today mention the rumor that Nebraska's RINO Republican Senator Chuck Hagel might be on the short list for US presidential candidate Barack Obama's vice-president. I looked it up and here is what I found: Hagel not ruling out match up with Obama.

Can you believe the gall of this man? I hope he never comes back to Nebraska after his fraudulently obtained term as Senator expires. Perhaps then the stink will stop rubbing off on the Nebraskans he tricked into voting for him. The stench from former Nebraska Senator Bob Kerrey is only now beginning to fade from our overalls, and he was at least honest about being a Democrat.

Here is a recent spew from Chuck Hagel that illustrates just how out of touch with reality the big turkey has become:
The problems facing America today are “far deeper and wider and worse than what FDR faced.”
Thanks to the Street Sweeper at Leavenworth Street Blog for pointing this one out and recalling an apropos Bart Simpson analogy. I suspect that The Street is where Steve Brown heard about the possible Obama veep gig; the ugly rumor has been up there since Friday.

Chuck must dream about somebody offering him something every night. Like Steve Brown said, I hope Barack does choose Hagel. It would almost guarantee a big loss for Obama.
---
More: Nebraska born magical Camelot speechwriter and still flaming JFK liberal Ted Sorensen thinks Barack should pick Chuck Hagel for VP. He said so while speaking in Omaha at a fund raiser for fake Nebraskan Scott Kleeb. Wannabe rancher and aimless progressive Kleeb (rhymes with bleb) is running for Senator Hagel's abandoned Senate seat.

Cops bust up Juneteenth parade in Omaha

North Omaha: Guns, God, Cash, Big Red
click and go figure
Yesterday was Juneteenth, a celebration of the abolition of slavery. The 'world-wide' emancipation celebration isn't an official holiday in Nebraska, but the local chapter of the NAACP traditionally has a parade in North Omaha. The neighborhood also marks the day with other related cultural and ethnic events, like shootings, car chases and brawls.

This year's observance was no different. From the Omaha World Herald:
The annual Juneteenth parade in north Omaha ended early Saturday when an 18-year-old man was shot near 22th and Lothrop Streets.

Police halted the parade after the 11:14 a.m. shooting near Lothrop Magnet Center, said Tommie Wilson, president of the Omaha chapter of the NAACP.

The NAACP sponsored the parade, which began at 10 a.m. at 24th and Hamilton Streets. The parade route was along North 24th Street, with Miller Park as the destination. Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the United States.

Wilson said she was upset that police stopped the parade. She said only 37 of 72 parade entries made it along the route before it ended.

"People missed all of that wonderful parade," Wilson said. "The cops need to, instead of stopping the parade, move the perpetrators."

It was the second time in three years that a Juneteenth event in Omaha ended prematurely. Organizers shut down a Juneteenth festival two years ago when fights broke out.

Wilson said Juneteenth isn't the problem; it's violence in the city. "This stuff is happening every day — we just happened to have a parade," she said.
The theme of the interrupted parade in North Omaha was a bit confusing: "History is NOW: Diversity through UNITY!" I'm sure there is some deep meaning in there somewhere, but I can't figure it out.

Demisexuals

They call it Political Monogamy, but I prefer the more precise term, Demisexuality. The abominable practice is every bit as stupid as Vegansexuality. I always suspected that an unusually high percentage of male Democrats were Demisexuals.

I must admit, to my lasting shame, that I often posed as a 'leftist campus radical' in my college days. Their parties were wilder and the women were more fully liberated (read: easier) than their non-leftist counterparts. It was less trouble than lying to the ladies about being rich or ambitious.

More bad weather - Four Boy Scouts killed at camp

Update: Progressive fruits are blaming the Iowa Boy Scout tornado deaths on global warming. This was bound to happen. Same with the wussies who are now asking, "Why in heaven's name didn't they have a storm shelter?" If rustic camps had all the amenities of home, they wouldn't offer much of a "roughing it" experience for the boys. Next they will ask why there wasn't cable TV so the boys could watch the weather mongers issue warnings.Maybe the boys should have stayed home and played 'camping games' on their X-boxes.

Being Prepared - Scout Training Pays Off
We have had our share of nasty weather this past week. Last night the tornadoes and flooding hit close to the feedlot with tragic results. Four Boy Scouts were killed and over 40 of their fellow campers were injured at an Iowa camp a few counties north and across the Missouri River from here. Gateway Pundit has a map and more links. Pictures from the scene can be found at the Sioux City Journal.

The Boy Scouts comported themselves like troopers, giving aid to the injured campers and clearing the road for emergency vehicles. The old feeder was a Boy Scout back in the day when the uniform included leggings. Hearing about how these young men handled this unavoidable catastrophe makes me proud.

Threatening Clouds
It also makes me feel silly for complaining about the wind, rain, annoying sirens and hyped-up TV coverage of the storm. The picture shows the killer storm as it passed the feedlot.

Enemy combatants are people, too

Don't shoot him Joe! Read him his rights.
You may cry for our United States now. The Supreme Court ignores the realities of war, rules that captured enemy combatants have the same rights as you and I. Justice Scalia:
The game of bait-and-switch that today’s opinion plays upon the Nation’s Commander in Chief will make the war harder on us. It will almost certainly cause more Americans to be killed. --- The Nation will live to regret what the Court has done today. I dissent.
The Frenchification of America continues unabated. Maybe we should just ticket the terrorists; certainly they will appear for their court dates now that the have their rights. This would have saved us a lot of embarrassment and expense during WWII.

Barack Obama's Five Mile Gun Control

Why walk 5 miles to get a pistol?
What was Barack Obama thinking when he proposed (as an Illinois State Senator in 1999) that "all federally licensed gun dealers sell firearms in a storefront and not from their homes while banning their business from being within five miles of a school or a park."? Obviously, BO wanted to ban gun stores entirely from every municipality in America. James Taranto stirred up this muck at the Wall Street Journal yesterday. Read more at the Volokh Conspiracy and don't miss Michelle Malkin's take on this blast from Barack's not-so-distant past.

Naturally, now that Obama is running for White House blockbuster, some people say he won't stick by his absurd, unconstitutional scheme. He has matured, and is a big Second Amendment supporter now, don't you know, with infringements allowed only in the name of "common sense". Such as his support for banning those cheap Saturday Night Specials, which might be purchased by the poor and oppressed to defend themselves from the Marxist thugs in their 'hoods.

Obama's Secret Birth Certificate

Updated: A Daily Kos blogger purports to have Barack Obama's birth certificate. See a copy here. It isn't certified that I can see; ask an illegal immigrant or Dan Rather how difficult it is to dummy up an official-looking document. At any event, it was enough to satisfy Jim Geraghty.

Little Obama & his Momma
Early Fence-Sitting Lessons

You will recall that the last Democrat candidate for President of the US, John Kerry, never released his complete military records, despite charges of a cover-up and various lies from Kerry about his having done so. Obviously, there was something in those records the fake war hero didn't want anyone to see. Ultimately, Kerry's DOD Form SF-180 flap was just one of a million good reasons not to trust that disingenuous loser.

Will the fact that 2008's Democrat candidate, Barack Obama, refuses to release his own birth certificate become Barack's SF-180? Some folks seem to think so. Just as with John Kerry, the fact that he won't let us see the truth has fueled speculation and rumors that are possibly worse than whatever it is that Obama is trying to hide. Jim Geraghty lists a few: Could it be he isn't qualified to run for President under the Constitution? Maybe his real name is Barry, not Barack. Perhaps his middle name is Mohammed.

Why wouldn't Obama want folks to see his birth certificate? How awful could the truth be?

Omaha - weekend tornado update

Millard - Blue tarps on Sunday
The tornado damage this weekend in Omaha was worse than it seemed at first. Several homes and businesses in the Millard neighborhood were seriously damaged. The weather experts are calling it an EF-2 tornado, as rated by the Enhanced Fujita Scale. Even though the warning sirens came a bit late for these folks, there were no deaths or serious injuries. Omaha cats are weather wary, and will take to their basements without waiting for sirens when tornadoes threaten.

Feedlot Housekeeping

Seen under my chair
The Plains Feeder blogroll reading room page, The Read-Mor, now has a review of a different blog every now and then. I call it the Coffee Table Blog. The current review is of Chicago Ray. I'll try to get around to reviewing all the blogs on the Read-Mor shelves eventually.

Because PF readers want to know their rights, I've added a Legal Terms and Conditions page. Don't lie awake at night wondering, get the answers you need to be safe while visiting the feedlot.

Obama Posters III

¡Tejanos con Obama!
I didn't have to make this one up. Graphic Barack Obama worship is the far-out left's newest fad. Dig these crazy comments from hep cats seeing this cool "Tejanos with Obama" poster for the first time:
It matters little that none of these reviewers appear to be Tejanos. At least one real Tejano loves Barack and sees the Magic Negro Lightworker in his dreams.

I couldn't sleep at all last night

Updated: The tornado damage in Omaha was
worse than it seemed at first.

Last Night's Storm
A small tornado zipped through the Omaha, Nebraska area last night. I can't hear sirens (or anything else) once I'm asleep, but a soaking rain coming in through the window and onto my bed woke me up. After that, sirens from Omaha and several other little bergs nearby kept me awake. There was some storm damage: a few roofs damaged, signs knocked over, trees uprooted and power outages, but I don't think anyone was badly injured. The churches ought to be full this morning.

I couldn't sleep at all last night
Just a thinking of you..
Baby things weren't right
Well I was tossin and turning
Turning and tossin
Tossin and turnin all night..
We simply must stop annoying the wind gods or this will only get worse.

Obama Posters II

Retro-style Obama Poster #2
This is the second in the Plains Feeder's series of Barack Obama campaign posters based on classic posters from the past. Old-timers shouldn't have much trouble guessing the inspiration for this smoking hot piece of propaganda. Obama says he has quit smoking weed and snorting cocaine, but can't shake the cigs.

Obama Posters

Another Retro-style Obama Poster
The fascination of the US left with the Korda photo of the dead filthy communist murderer Che Guevara, combined with attempted revivals of old campaign and propaganda posters has produced in some bizarre results lately. I linked a Stalinesque Hillary poster, but most of the fun has emanated from the the Barack Obama campaign. Like this Che-Obama photoshop, made here at the feedlot.

Michell Malkin has featured the new iconic Obama posters by Shepard Fairey on numerous occasions. This poster actually asks the viewer to photoshop it, and Michell features the results here (noting the Che connection), here (with arugula), here (BO as liberal snob), here (the dope of hope), and even one of the old feeder's efforts here. Flopping Aces also featured some of the CheBama silliness here.

To keep the ball rolling, the old feeder has started work on a series of Barack Obama posters based on classics from the past. My first effort appears at the top of this post. For the old campaign poster that inspired this minimalist, Bauhaus-ish piece, just click here.

Now that the Hillary Rodham Clinton threat has been reduced to a recurring nightmare I have of her sitting on the Supreme Court, I won't be making any posters for her.

Barack to Mars?

Seen on Drudge: "McCain would like to see a man on Mars."

I suppose that man would be Barack Obama.

Remember D-Day June 6, 1944

Ike's 'Order of the Day' draft (click 4 big)
General Eisenhower's determination that operation OVERLORD (the invasion of France) would bring a quick end to the war is obvious in this message to the troops of the Allied Expeditionary Forces on June 6, 1944, the morning of the invasion.
From the Eisenhower Presidential Library.
---
See the final printed version, as distributed to the soldiers. Here is what it says:
Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened. He will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to Victory!

I have full confidence in your courage and devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory!

Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.
SIGNED: Dwight D. Eisenhower
---
Fly your flag. Spend some time reflecting on the sacrifices made this day in 1944. Then enjoy the freedoms those sacrifices (and so many more in World War II) secured for you against the threat of National Socialism.
---
General Eisenhower also penciled a message to be used in the event that the D-Day invasion failed. He got the date wrong. Thank God he never had to use it.

Vanity Unfair: Khalid Sheikh Mohammed

9/11 Terrorist Planner
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his scruffy-looking pals go on trial today at the United States' Camp Justice in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He told the court that he wishes to receive the death penalty for his confessed part in the murder of thousands on September 11, 2001.
"Yes, this is what I wish, to be a martyr for a long time," Mohammed told a military judge who warned that he faces execution if convicted of organizing the attacks on America. "I will, God willing, have this, by you."
Christians are taught that to seek martyrdom is a vanity. Vanity is a form of sinful pride. Perhaps we should sentence this creep and his co-defendants to a life of hard labor in an underground mine dressed as women, with no korans, bread-and-water rations and 24/7 loudspeaker sermons from Christian ministers and Jewish rabbis. Nah. That sounds too easy.

Any suggestions?

Hillary Clinton Concedes Nomination to Obama

Its not over yet...
Or maybe she doesn't. Stay tuned, there's more to come. Michelle Malkin says its a going to be a two bags of popcorn night for political junkies. I'm going to bed early, popcorn gives me indigestion. Shovel away, Barry.

Barack Obama to Ascend in St. Paul tonight

Stop the Lieberman-Warner Watermelon Bill

Green on the outside - Red on the inside
Call or e-mail your US Senators today. Let them know you don't want them to vote for what Michelle Malkin calls the Lieberman-Warner green boondoggle bill. It is coming up for debate this week in the Senate. It isn't just scientifically stupid, unconstitutionally oppressive and anti-American, it is also a nasty pork stew.

The Marxist Watermelon Front plans to sabotage our economy. Duping us into knee-jerk legislation like this is just another part of their war on the American constitutional form of government. Tell your Senators they aren't fooling you.

Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant. Measuring, capping, and trading its output might sound green, but it would cripple our economy and restrict our freedoms. The Watermelons and their fellow travelers won't be satisfied until America is as miserable as every other Marxist nation. They hate America.
---
Addendum: What is the sensory opposite of red on the BYR color wheel? It is green. Commie propaganda is like that: wrong is right; day is night; red is green. The Big Lie. There is no end to Marxist perfidy.
---
On Second Thought: Marxist ecological genius Senator Barbara Boxer threatens war if this awful tax disguised as 'cap and trade' greenery fails to pass. Be afraid. She has always been right before.
